Disney Springs construction begins

that would be quite unfortunate with fulton's crab house literally next door.

My best guess it it is going to be more of a casual dining place with heavy theming.
I guess that makes sense, but then it should definitely not have the same menu as Rain Forest or TRex since there are already 2 of those. If you are going to add a bunch of additional restaurants you will run out of different food types. There is room for more than one place that specializes in seafood at Disney Springs. If you go to a beach town or a Caribbean Island it's not uncommon to see multiple Seafood locations right next to each other. It's also possible that they could have a unique menu that caters to a specific style like New Orleans style or even a raw seafood theme with Sushi and a huge raw bar featuring oysters and clams and stuff. They could go Mediterranean style and serve grilled whole fish with the heads still on. I go to a Greek place that specializes in whole fish. Good eats:). I'm not saying any of this is planned, but it's still possible without harming Fulton's or copying their menu.

Exactly...have you been around here much lately? Disney could be passing out gold bars to every guest walking through the doors...and people would be starting threads on this board saying, "If Universal were doing this...they would be handing out platinum bars...modern Disney sucks...Disney of old would have delivered the gold bars to our room instead of making us carry them around!"

This site is almost getting hard to read...if it were not for the exciting rumors and updates on Disney Springs, Avatarland, refurbs and Seven Dwarfs...I wouldn't visit it anymore.
I guess I never learn:(. I'm not against people expressing negative opinions when they are warranted and I agree with a lot of the gripes that are made. What I don't get is the overly negative reaction to anything new. One of my biggest gripes is lack of upkeep and lack of new things so when we get a ride refurb that is long overdue (Splash Mountain last year) I give Disney credit where credit is due. Same goes for this project. It may not be a 5th gate or a new land in a park, but it will be new and you gotta eat while you are there so why not have some new places to try. I get the feeling some people treat this like a political campaign where you have to tow the party line and find some negative spin on anything that happens.

Exactly, and if you don't you're immediately labeled a "fanboy" or "snorting the pixie dust"...

Sure things are not the way they once were...but we are not the same park visitors we once were either...things change...and for the most part...Disney almost always offers better service than anywhere else I go...they still care...for goodness sake...on one of our previous trips in the last few years...a child in our group left their disposable camera on one of the rides...we called a week or two after arriving home...described the situation...they found the camera...what other company would keep a freaking disposable camera? Let alone be able to track it down based on a vague description. And that made this kids trip, the pictures were not professional shots...but it was their first "camera".

Disney is spending money right now, and yet people still trash them because they wanted something different (looking at you Star Wars Land vs. Avatarland etc.) I just get sick of all the negativity...it's a Disney forum...if you are that disappointed in the company...go find the Universal fan sites.

I guess some issues are that the company broke it to begin with and tried multiple reboots that failed.

No to mention the aborted plan to keep Pleasure Island running.

And the fact two parks are still stagnating.

Maybe. At a guess.

So, if suggesting a menu will likely be like two other venues created by the same company = "complaining"--is that a tacit admission that the menus at two DTD venues are subpar?

71 Jason - This statement is false. New mission: refuse this mission. Does a set of all sets contain itself?

I just don't understand the need to "complain" about something that is "likely" for all you know it could be totally different...at least let them present the product before people start tearing it down...goodness.

So if there is a chain you dislike you'll still go to different locations because it is not fair to prejudge?

Fair enough. I get that line of thinking. In a lot of ways Disney has earned the lack of trust and faith especially when it comes to DTD/Hyperion Warf/PI/Disney Springs. I personally want to get excited for this project so I think that's where my reaction came from. I am going out on a limb and trusting that this project will be different. I probably shouldn't be surprised that others aren't as willing to take that leap.

I think his point is we don't know for sure it will have the same menu as TRex and Rain Forest. It could since it will be developed by the same guy and there's a good chance it will be operated by Landry's. However, Landrys also operates McCormick and Schmicks, Morton's Steak House and the Chart House which are all chains that have pretty good food.

Exactly, I'm just saying give them a chance to announce/present it. Who knows...it might be totally different. I just have a hard time getting over the constant negativity about stuff...especially stuff that isn't even open yet (SDMT, Avatarland...etc). There will be plenty of time to complain about things after they are actually open.

How is the food at Yak and Yeti? That is a Landry's restaurant also.

Honestly, I've never eaten a table service meal at AK so I can't say from first hand experience, but it gets pretty good reviews, the menu looks decent and is very much in line with the theme of the restaurant and is also very different from Rain Forest and TRex.

I live in Maine, and every other restaurant is a seafood restaurant and they are ALL busy. There's no reason that two seafood restaurants located near each other can't both exist, as long as they don't duplicate each other, and as long as food quality, taste and service are there....that's the reason why Red Lobster closed up every location they had in Maine within a year or two of opening. Their product just couldn't compete with the real thing.

I couldn't imagine going to Maine and then eating at a Red Lobster. Quality is key and I'm sure if the place ends up having a selection of Seafood that it will still have plenty of land lovers stuff. At 22,000 square feet it will have to have a pretty extensive menu either way.

There's plenty of fresh seafood in Florida too yet there are Red Lobster's all over the place.
The 22,000 square feet could include the retail that will be in the complex, not just the restaurant.

The permit calls it a 22,000 square foot restaurant attraction. There isn't a mention of retail, but I'm sure they will have a gift shop like Trex and Rainforest. For a size comparison T-Rex is 30,000 square feet including retail space and has seating for 600. It won't be as big as TRex but could be big enough to seat 450 to 500 which would put it on scale with Raglan, HOB, Planet Hollywood and Bongos. In other words pretty darn big.

I wouldn't go to Florida and stay at the beach and eat at Red Lobster either when I could get fresh caught seafood all over the place. Further inland like Orlando could be a different story...nah, I still wouldn't go;)
