Disney Springs construction begins

I'd be shocked if BET stays vertical--rumors of it being filled with mold go back to early post-closing days.

It's odd they keep Mannequins. Given its size/configuration, not much you can use it for other than a huge nightclub, which I don't see being in the cards.

This should have been done back in '97 along with the West Side. Negotiating the side walk around PI to Ws was almost a thrill attraction itself.

Exactly. Could have sold popcorn/slushees, maybe a cart or two of light-up toys ... and kept the adult area stroller-free. Still not sure that would have done much for the West Side, but it at least would have made more sense.

All the permits being filed for Disney Springs have had this end date which would be the end date for the entire project.

Remember when they said it would be completed by 2016 yep ... and this is for a shopping centre guess NGE spiraling costs is having an effect on this project as well.

Ending date: December 31, 2017

Well, at least they'll have enough time to get it done.

No expert knowledge by any means, but I would think that when they file permits like this, they may give a little more room with the end date just in case something does happen and they need to extend it, not necessarily meaning that they have extended the announced end date.

I'm surprised as well. Especially since it was never really an attractive building to begin with, if they tear down the rest of the "warehouse" style buildings, doesn't it become a really stuck-out eyesore? And like you said, what possible purpose could it have? It's a mindboggler.

Also mindboggling is how long it's taking to build this mall, but I guess that's the current WDW construction pace.

Exactly! Just like it will for every WDW project, for untold years to come. I wonder if my grandkids will live to enjoy see Avatur land.
