So much for this being some sort of value or moderate DVC.... It looks higher end than Saratoga Springs or OKW....
The pricing is interesting to me... the pricing is very similar to other DVC properties assuming you are purchasing nightly rates without points. My assumption was the pricing would be slightly less than other properties given that the Riviera’s location isn’t exactly stellar compared to other properties. Maybe I’m wrong?
Very few people ever expected this to be value or moderate... I certainly didn't! I expected pricing under BLT, which is about where it is looking at rack rates. I still think it's high, considering BLT is walkable to the most popular theme park in the world, and Riviera is a gondola ride from Epcot.

That said, as an option at 7mos with our SSR points for F&W, at least as long as that's available, is something we'd try.

And I don't at all understand people complaining that a large Riviera themed resort has rooms that look like those in a large, high-end Riviera resort... bizarre to me.

Here’s the link to the DVC page, there are a lot more details than in the article.

https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/destinations/list/florida/disney-riviera-resort/

In particular, I like the idea of an activity lawn with chess lawn, bocce court etc. The pools look decent, not sure about the slide though, looks a little odd.

At first I too thought the QS was just a pool bar, but the details on the Trattoria suggest otherwise. So there is a pool bar and the Trattoria, the second of which will serve meals throughout the day as well as grab and go items.

Agree...it looks decent.
I think that there will be a lot of spill over into Caribbean for quickserve - which the defenders swore wouldn’t happen. The restaurant is gonna be overrun...a coffee bar and the quick serve is intentionally vague as I believe it is referring to a low cost/limited menu kinda place.

As I say, more details from the DVC.

Couple of things I’m not so happy about:

Looks like the bed for the 5th person in the 1 bed is a Murphy style pull out like at the GFV etc. Which are too small for someone over about 5’8”. I would have preferred a sleeper chair as at Bay Lake or Kidani.

Also just the one bathroom, though there does appear to be two entrances to it like at the BC. So at least you don’t have to go into the master bedroom to visit the toilet!

I hope there’s a proper lounge up at the top. That cafe / wine bar is fine but looks like it’s in the lobby, with not enough seating. Not really where we’d want to hang out in the evening for an hour or two.

The switching back and forth between Italian and French is a bit of a mental whiplash. :)

Italian
  • Riviera - shore
  • Topolino - little/baby mouse (name for Mickey in Italian)
  • Bar Riva - shore bar
  • Primo Piatto - first dish/course
  • trattoria - tavern

French
  • Le Petit Café - the little coffee/coffee house
  • S’il Vous Play - a play on "s'il vous plait" [see voo play] which means "please", as in "please respond", which is "Répondez s'il vous plaît", aka RSVP
  • Beau Soleil - beautiful sun

If you folks from The Dis are reading this, look up and play the pronunciations from Google before you do a video and murder the pronunciations. ;)
Aww but it's so fun when they (and many others) butcher French! F&W menu vids are the best if you wanna laugh your way around the world.
Btw, to anyone reading this: the shop at the Poly is called Boo-tiki, not Bow-tiki. Just like the Boutique shown in today's concept art for Riviera. For some reason that's been popping up lately.

Agreed on the resort's identity crisis. It's like half the design team voted for an Italian theme and the other half for a French one so they decided to slap it all together and make it a European theme because the vast majority of guests wouldn't know the difference.

Thanks for posting that link. The text there suggests that December 16 is not the opening date, so it looks like they might have opened up reservations as a cash grab for SW reservations now that complaints have been coming in about a lack of availability in December.

"Disney's Riviera Resort is projected to open in fall 2019. Disney Vacation Club Members can begin booking later this spring using Vacation Points—with access to exclusive, protected inventory being held just for Members. Exact timing will be shared once the official opening date is confirmed. In the interim, Members can make a rental reservation using cash now by calling Member Services at (800) 800-9800.†

Not a Member? Check availability online—or call (407) 827-6430 or your travel agent to book for stays starting mid-December. The official Resort opening will be announced at a later date."

I'm glad they opted for the Pop-style murphy beds and that it seems like they will slowly replace the pull-outs everywhere. I was very skeptical of the murphy beds when the concept art for Pop was first released but they're actually very comfortable in real life. I thought they would skimp on the matresses by they didn't. The only downside is that they still haven't learned that the bed corners should be rounded.
My eyes may be deceiving me but in the thumbnail pic for the deluxe studio the 5th person murphy bed looks longer than others to me, so they may be able to accommodate adults.

I'm generally ok with having rooms that are more modern and subdued (in line with recent refrubs) AS LONG AS the common areas and exterior of the resort are highly themed (i.e, Copper Creek). In this case all of the above are incredibly generic.

While nice enough, it could be a JW Marriott or Waldorf anywhere. But here you'll pay 50-100% more for likely worse service.

Which high-end Italian/French Riviera hotel has the pull-out/fold-down Murphy Bed/Inova Sofa? Asking for a friend.
"Asking for a friend" has to be one of the more obnoxious phrases out there. That said, that (pull-out) is different, from my experience, to be sure. But those rooms are also more affordable than anything you'd find at a high-end riviera resort, so there are trade-offs that I think make sense for a hotel in a theme park. Do you disagree?

And that's not what I was referring to anyway. I was referring to comments that it looks like a Four Seasons or the like in decor.
