Disney Resort Question

I know there's more to a Disney Resort Hotel than just eating, sleeping and shopping.
Can you please name a Disney resort you have stayed at and what there is to do there other than the obvious?

The last resort I stayed at was Caribbean Beach. Since that's the freshest in my memory, I'll stick to that one!

There were beautiful paths and walkways around the lake, little spots of beach with lounge chairs and hammocks; Bicycle rentals (and not only regular types but those huge freaky kind that fit a whole family! 4 wheelers with little canopies); boat rentals; places to feed the birds; live music at the outdoor bar near the pool at night...

I know there are more but those things are what come to mind right now.

Wilderness Lodge

beach volleyball
daily crafts for kids
bedtime story in front of the fireplace
hidden mickey search
guided tour of the lodge
one family gets to raise the flag each day
water mouse rental
walking/biking trails through the woods

this is in addition to the usual resort stuff--pool, shopping, eating, and finding little quiet nooks and crannies (and WL has a lot of those)

Although I've never done it (we are park commandos), I just know that we could have a wonderful (relaxing) day without leaving the resort.

AKL!

The Animal Kingdom Lodge! I could spend my whole vacation in there!

Tons of things to do! Lots of African stuff, and a good shop, good food, lots to do!

Great hotel! My favorite! :sohappy:

Yes. The animals varied; the rooms are on hallways called trails, and each one somewhat different animals. However, there were viewing areas (large balconies with chairs) scattered around the hotel, so you could walk to see other areas. There were also guides stationed who could answer questions.

The pool is lovely. There is an open pit fireplace outside where a storyteller tells African folktales each evening, and another one inside (in case of rain or cold) This area also has many outdoor viewing sites. There is a waterfall inside the lobby, along with a couple of bridges (one traverses the lobby; others cross the waterfall), and many African art displays.

There are 2 hot tubs near the pool, a waterslide, a playground, and animal enclosures. A pool bar and the food court are adjacent, along with an arcade. There is also a gift shop where you can purchase African art along with cold drinks, snacks, souvenirs, etc.

When the parks got too crowded or hot, it was a pleasure to return to the resort. :)

Thanks, Marcia! You saved me a lot of typing.

There is tons to do there! I stayed a week, and I still didn't see everything there was. The African artwork was great! They do also give a tour around the hotel each day.

The rooms were very quite also! We didn't hear anything.

Also, they have cameras sorounding the savannah. I don't think any balloons are allowed inside the resort...stuff that can harm the animals isn't allowed. And, I don't think they allow you to access the resort unless you have a PS, or reservation for a room. They checked our reservation, and drivers liscense at the security shack.

I am a bit of a Disney snob at this point In the past 6 years I have stayed at 2 of the Value level resorts and all 4 of the Moderate levels in some cases multiple times. The Value levels are nice, clean, comfy and really have some pretty awesome food courts. I stayted at the All Star Music and Movies. The only downside is there arent near as many amenities as the more expensive resorts. Also these are the ones with the most amounts of kids. I prefer the Moderates as the have more amenities more pools and other things to do, not near as many children (or maybe more spread out so I dont notice) and I love the theming. My favorite of the Moderates is a tough call. I like the main pool area at the Coronado Springs, The Restaurant and quiet pool at Port Orleans Riverside, the food court and unusual gift shop at the Carribean, and the intimacy of the Port Orleans Riverside. I Am going again in October with my Mom and I just think she would love the Port Orleans Riverside so I think that is where I am staying! Unless of course I find out about a good special for the dates I want, and con someone into spending all that money on hotel accomodations!! Wish me luck!

Disney's Boardwalk Resort is a great place for other ecreational activities other than the usual :pool, shopping, dining.

I can't name them all, but go to disneyworld.com, there is a whole load of stuff to do! :animwink:

We booked our vacation a couple of days before Sept 11th to stay at PO. But due to cut backs that followed at Disney, we have been transferred to the Swan. Does anyone know what it's like?

It's four BIG KIDS  going on vacation (all about 30 year old!) So I'm not bothered about the little kid side of things.

Any info would be appreciated! :)

If you are interested in roughing it in a tent or camper (or even in a wilderness home) may i suggest Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

They have tons of fun stuff to do besides the "normal" such as..
a campfire program where chip and dale are actually there.... hay rides...movies (At the campfire program)... boat rental at both the seven seas lagoon and on the canal. They have trails... a perfect place to see the water pagent at night..umm and if they ever re-open River Country.. its right in your back yard! We've stayed at Fort Wilderness on every trip except our last (All Star Movies)... we've stayed at Fort Wilderness so many times.. I lost count after 20. Its a real fun place.. and I forgot.. they have a petting zoo too.. where you can meet Minnie Moo.. and awesome cow.. with a mouse head on the side!:D

At the Boardwalk Hotel you can rent boats and rent these 4 person bicycle things. Also walking down the boardwalk is cool and you can walk right to Epcot from there.

The Polynesian you can also rent boats, also at the Contemporary.

The Wilderness Lodge is BEAUTIFUL, where you can sit in the lobby for hours just looking at everything. ALso the pools and geyser are AWESOME!

At Port Orleans Riverside they have alot of walkways and a few pools. Very nice scenery.

I actually can take a full day and discover all the hotels. I love how exactly themed and detailed each one is. And the restaurants in each one are very cool as well.

I highly doubt they charge you to use the tennis courts. THe only place i know they charge for things similiar to that is the Disney Institute.. BUt thankfully, they closed it! It had no theme at all and was totally overpriced!

All of this information you have all given me is incredible! I thought people were staying at Holiday Inn type places that just happened to say Disney on the side. Now I need to go there and just visit all of the resorts!

Staying in a Disney Resort is NOTHING like Holiday Inn types. NOthing at all. You can look at all the resorts, see their prices and see pictures of each at www.disney.com click on vacations, then 'theme parks and more' Then go to WDW reservations and tickets. Then at the top, click resorts. THey all come up on the bottom! You wont see any holiday inn looking places there!;)
