I'll start.

It's sensitivity run amok. The entire mug had a purple theme. The monorail stripe is purple because of the entire palette. It would be no different if the mug was B/W. A black stripe on the monorail wouldn't mean it was supposed to represent "Monorail Black." It would be a completely different matter if the mug used a full color palette. That isn't the case here.

To those who have already bought the mug, I suggest you keep it in the package and don't open it. It will be worth A LOT.

People on eBay are going crazy with prices from $175 to $2500. Yeah you read that right. I'd like one but there's not a chance in hell I'm going to pay that for a coffee mug.

I didn't want to believe it so I looked for myself. Ridiculous. I am amazed at the bidding activity on some of these. I enjoy collecting Disneyana, but $175 for a coffee mug (that will just be replaced by one in a different color) is nuts.

Lucky for you then. See the above post. Retailing for $250. No chance of paying $30. Hooray!!!
Oh, the $200 monorail purple ones were never even a consideration. They'll probably be $50 in a couple of weeks. Even then, no. :D $30ish seems to be the rough going rate for the MK/DL/DCA ones. By the time I get down there in November, I'm sure they'll have the Epcot situation sorted out.

They are redoing Imagination? Canceling Arrendel? Updating UoE? Finishing the SE descent? Bringing back Kitchen Kaberet(@sshindel) Removing the fountain stage?

This is fantastic news! But, if you don't tell me your source, I'll be forced to debunk you.

I was just talking about mug design, but they already have the Epcot park situation sorted out as well... year-round Booze & Wine Fest Sometimes Featuring Flowers. You may not like it, but Disney seems to think it's OK. :greedy:

Keep in mind there is an active collector base for the Starbucks You are Here Series to begin with (aka non-disney fans). A few discontinued mugs from other series can often go for 100+ dollars as is, this is just the perfect storm of an extremely limited release.

For everyone else here who just wants one... Wait for the re-released version that will surely be coming shortly.

Also I'm pretty sure Statbucks designed the mugs, Disney likely had very little to do with the matter until someone clued in on the potential conflict.

It is stylised, yes, but it shows a monorail with a purple stripe, like the real thing. The colour scheme can easily be manipulated so that stripe is teal, or grey instead. That would be preferable.

The mug could have been a B/W theme. Does that mean it would have depicted a specifically black monorail? No it does not. What if the mug had a green, yellow, red, etc. theme? Does that mean the monorail was specifically that color? No, common sense would dictate the stripe is using the predominant color in the theme.

Then WDW henceforth should ban all uses of PURPLE in anything relating to park operations and instead use 18% grey as that is a completely inoffensive color with no negative connotations.

Pantone 10 C 'Cool Grey' should just about be right. Should not offend anyone and will be respectful of those injured/killed in colored mass transit vehicles.

So anyone who wants a purple magic band? Get over it.

What does intent have to do with offending people these days? The offended get to dictate what bothers them, regardless of the source's intent. By chance, by accident, intentional... none of it really matters.

So, I can go around calling overweight people "Fatty McBargeThighs" and as long as they don't take offense, my intent to be a jerk is irrelevant? SWEET.
