Disney Pulls Starbucks Mug from Epcot Shelves

So, I can go around calling overweight people "Fatty McBargeThighs" and as long as they don't take offense, my intent to be a jerk is irrelevant? SWEET.

If they aren't offended.. who is going to call you out? Jape aside... you can take any number of situations to prove the point. Lack of intent is not a defense against those who feel they are offended these days. Miserable but true.

It's the Disney way - how many people even know there have been multiple monorail collisions with the tractors.
I'm sure that only those with a reason to know, and there is a good reason for that. We have no reason to know or to care. Accidents happen everyday all over the world. Frankly, I do not need to know about all of them.

Not Godwin - recent example of the same exact cautious behavior. A situation that happened under two months ago. http://money.cnn.com/2014/12/10/news/hallmark-swastika-giftwrap/

Why did the company capitulate? Because again... there is no reason to stand and defend what you could care less about and have nothing to gain from. Just fix it and move on.
Flynnibus, really? This is not like you. To compare World War II, the Nazi hate symbol and the Holocaust with a monorail accident at WDW, is probably just a tad over the top. There is no comparison. It's not even in the same universe. There are a lot of very good reasons to be sensitive to the feelings of others, but this isn't one of them. There really does come a time when it is necessary to look someone directly in the eye and say... grow up! Get over yourselves and understand that there is tragedy in everyone's life. That is not a unique situation, it is a human reality and as such we, as humans need to be shocked at what is a legitimate evil thing and what is just an artificial emotional response. If we don't learn how to do that, the self involved will be running the world. Oh, wait... that is what has happened. To late! Never mind.

It's not Godwinning because a) they actually DID accidentally put a swastika in there and b) the swastika was in use for a long time before the Nazis and technically is not always used to evoke Nazi imagery (the key is if it's going clockwise or counter clockwise).

You can thank Adolf for making any meaning previous to his totally irrelevant. It's not the same thing. We do have to learn how to make inner determinations as to what is really in bad taste and what is just conflicting with all common sense by defining it as such.

We've created a self entitled society that needs to be slapped in the face.

The mindset predates recent issues with entitlement. Sexual harassment for instance... A man does not need to be intentionally trying to hit on or otherwise be making advances on a woman. If their actions cause the person to be uncomfortable... That's all that counts.

Im a believer in thicker skin... But we are heading the opposite direction in general

That's because we make hero's out of super sensitive people. Emotion is a good thing but everyone has to realize that emotion is a personal thing and doesn't always assume that everyone else has that same emotion, much less, demand that we all be forced to cater to it. Deal with ones feelings in whatever way is necessary, but, do not ever demand that we all just fall over and support over-reaction.

if that dad-blamed mug did not have a monorail on it, purple would be fine; i actually like the color and design, just not the use of a monorail even mocked up as it is, in purple; is not in the best interests of Disney to show off, even as an aside, the fact that there is not purple monorail. just like there is no burgundy monorail, or a OSHA yellow one. there are 12 current colors of monorail, and only 6 different mugs being produced for the US parks... they could have gone with purple at DL or DCA and used a Mark VII image and it would be fine.

What does intent have to do with offending people these days? The offended get to dictate what bothers them, regardless of the source's intent. By chance, by accident, intentional... none of it really matters.

I agree with you. Last time I looked there is no right not to be offended in the Constitution.

Woah... never jump from the first page of a conversation to the last. It'll put your mind through a portal and return it upside down and backwards...

Just chiming in: I thought the purple design was great and hope the redesign does not eliminate the color all together, but rather has them simply paint a blue stripe on the monorail. I had looked forward to collecting all 4 mugs from WDW, EPCOT purple being one.
