Disney pools to be locked/ inaccessible in the overnight hours

Disney can't get sued(well they can but Disney will win) if someone drowns after hours when there are signs posting that after hours there are no lifeguards, swim at your own risk. How is that negligent on Disney's part?

Because we live in a litigious society that requires you not just to warn people... but prevent people from hurting themselves. It's not enough to say 'big hole in ground ahead' - you must put up a fence to prevent people from falling in. Same with pools - most areas require fencing around resident pools to avoid accidental falls into the pool even tho everyone knows.. you can fall into a pool if you aren't careful.

You can't just say 'at your own risk' and be absolved of all liability anymore. Sad world.. but that's what it is.

I never said it was negligent. I think as long a signs are posted there should be no fences.

This is a bummer to me...some of my best memories of younger trips were me, cousin and other family members hitting the pool late at night...and having the ENTIRE thing to ourselves...it was always fun to see who could win the races that stretched clear across the pool.

And with how Disney's been cutting back on everything in Orlando, you just know the fences won't even be electric. We'll be lucky if they throw in a little barbed wire.

When we were at All Star Sports in May, there was a sign stating when the pools closed. I want to say 11pm? When we returned back to the resort after EMH, around 1am, there were still lots of people in the pool and they were all VERY loud. Along with the safety reasons, I wonder if the noise might be another reason to make them inaccessible after hours? I can imagine having a pool view room with people yelling and screaming at the pool that late would be a little annoying, considering the quiet hours at the resort were "supposed to be" 10pm and on.

Late night kids at the pools has never really been a concern I've noted.

But, I do have a pool related complaint. I paid for "preferred" at Pop Century last year. Thought it would be a good idea, being close to the main building, bus stops, etc...right?

Wrong. We had a great view of the Hippy Dippy pool...and people were in and out of it at all hours.

However, the late night pool goers...it wasn't out of control kids (that I noticed)...it was families who had recently arrived for the most part (yes, I could hear their conversations even)...many from places like the UK where their body clocks are not on US East Coast time!

Still, my response isn't gating off everything (that's like limiting soda refills by putting RFID chips in the paper cups and installing new bevera...er...)

Anyhow, my response is...if I ever stay at Pop again, I won't pay extra for Preferred and I'll ask for a garden view with my reservation. :p

We saw the same thing at Sports. After returning to the hotel at 1am, people in the pool being VERY loud and obnoxious. If they just had a strict policy about pool hours, I think that might work. Let the guests know at check in "Pool hours are from __ to __ . You are NOT allowed in the pool after those hours. If you do, there will be consequences" and have someone walk by the pool every hour or so and check. Or add a security camera. They obviously do have security there but from our experience there in May, it doesn't seem like they do much considering the groups of teenagers that would be on the football field screaming bloody murder at 2am.

I watched a pool security guard at Pop try and get kids out of the pool one night. It was a feckless endeavor.

At first I was upset, but then I realized, you know what? These people are on vacation too...

And then it really didn't bother me. I just made a mental note to not get a pool facing room in the future.

Simply stand up to guests who are causing disruptions or are breaking the rules.
I TOTALLY agree with you but I can just see those individuals who think that they are part of that special club and deserve to be treated as such putting up a huge fight. I saw a guy from someplace overseas 2 weeks ago in AK actually ask a manager for a FREE ticket to come back to AK just because the Kali River Rapids were down for a mechanical problem. His Wife then sticks her nose into the situation and says "We are ONLY here for 10 days". ONLY for 10 days. Poor baby. THOSE are the kind of people that Disney would have to deal with if you tell them NO.

Unless all fences are tall, I can see teens climbing over. And if they do, what is going to be WDW response?

I'd like to see them tossed out on their butts. I remember, the last time I stayed at Dixie Landings (that's how long it's been), I would come back from a late night and always see the teenagers in the pool on Old Man Island, being loud and obnoxious. But the worst part was- they would climb up on the uh, trellis or aquaduct or whatever it's called at that pool, which is a good eight or ten ft up, and then jump or dive off. I'm VERY surprised that none of those kids have cracked their skull open.

I've also seen kids being loud and obnoxious well past midnight at the All Star pools, virtually every night, and often using belligerent and foul language if a CM asks them to get out. I'm glad they are getting a fence.

I'm sorry but this is complete bulls+%#!! I pay Disney good money for the "privilege" to stay at their (overpriced) resorts and if I get back from the magic kingdom/downtown disney/boardwalk/UNI Citywalk/where ever at 2am and wanna take a swim, I should be able too!! I'm sorry some kids have drowned, that's horrible, really is, but to be blunt about it, it's not my problem! Why take away from my trip because a couple of parents lost track of their own kids?

For the record, I have stayed at 1-2 resorts where their pools did not close at all and other ones closed at 11-12. Since I'm a (somewhat) responsible adult I've never been asked to get out of a pool after closing because I'm not screaming and yelling and splashing around in the pools at 2am like most 12yr olds would be. Wish Disney wasn't afraid of age requirements. Wanna put up a gate, that's fine, make it 18yr+ after 11pm or so.

I agree. For the cost paid, limiting my experience and forcing it into an East Coast time zone, is stupid.

I feel the same about the food court and the soda fountains.

I am east cost, so it doesn't bother me much, but, if I just got off of a 10 hour flight from the UK, and my kiddos wanted to swim while I got a free soda with my magical mug I purchased...I don't begrudge them any of that.

It is your choice to stay at WDW and when you book with them you know their policies. If being able to swim in a pool after 11 pm is such a big deal to you then stay elsewhere.simple as.
Saying this is all b/s makes you sound like the "i have paid good money to stay here and i am going to do what i want crowd" others describe on here.
Go stay up the road at the Nickleodeon suites if you have little ones ... hang on their pools close at 9pm
