Sounds like this could destroy Wilderness Lodge. :( That pool is so well integrated with its faux-natural surroundings. Hopefully that resort will be spared.
I don't see how one resort can be "spared" ?
If they are having to implement these changes to adhere to code (possibly state made) then all pools must be done.

I agree and this will certainly be an eyesore. I have heard rumors that the pool is going down for refurb in January.

What really gets me mad is that I am a DVC Member and it is suppose to be our home away from home but yet we wont be able to swim in the pools after hours. Well if I had a pool at home it would not be closed at 11pm.

"I will be interested to see how they will put a fence around each pool. A few people have commented about a fence around WL and I feel the same about the quiet pool at BCV. Walking past the pool is a direct walk way to the parking lot and I can't imagine a fence around it. I'm all for safety just wondering how everything will look when they are finished."

Exactly. How are you going to put a fence around this?

I for one am glad to see this change. Maybe not so much the fences, but the closing of the pools. I wouldn't mind a time of maybe 1am, but there are families with poolside rooms who have to deal with screaming, loud, obnixious people who don't know how to keep their noise level down. I'd be angry too if I were in a poolside room and had to deal with that. Not everyone stays up late, nor does everyone get up early. Maybe if the people causing the commotion could learn how to keep their voices down they wouldn't have to do this (IF this was just a noise issue, which it obviously isn't since it's being enforced by Reedy Creek) Quiet hours at the resorts start at 10pm anyway. All other hotels I've stayed in have had pool hours. It's not an uncommon thing.

Along with the safety reasons, I wonder if the noise might be another reason to make them inaccessible after hours? I can imagine having a pool view room with people yelling and screaming at the pool that late would be a little annoying, considering the quiet hours at the resort were "supposed to be" 10pm and on.

This is one of the more common complaints about the values... as you get large groups out late they tend to be louder.

I TOTALLY agree with you but I can just see those individuals who think that they are part of that special club and deserve to be treated as such putting up a huge fight. I saw a guy from someplace overseas 2 weeks ago in AK actually ask a manager for a FREE ticket to come back to AK just because the Kali River Rapids were down for a mechanical problem. His Wife then sticks her nose into the situation and says "We are ONLY here for 10 days". ONLY for 10 days. Poor baby. THOSE are the kind of people that Disney would have to deal with if you tell them NO.

That's a daily thing at DL... :) Fireworks canceled? STORM CITY HALL!

I've also seen kids being loud and obnoxious well past midnight at the All Star pools, virtually every night, and often using belligerent and foul language if a CM asks them to get out. I'm glad they are getting a fence.

But will a fence really keep those types out? Doubtful. If you have the types that are going to talk back to staff and curse at them... they aren't going to be discouraged by a simple aluminum fence.

Fences only keep honest people honest...

While I understand the need for the fences....I hate the aesthetics. Would much prefer a sniper on top of the building with a tranquilizer gun to deal with the interlopers. Once the intruders are out cold, security could release them back to the wild of thier rooms and tuck them in nicely. This would keep the natural beauty of the poolside areas intact while dealing with the wild element that sometimes encroaches.

Until I read through this entire thread I was thinking the fencing going up was due to Disney controlling the capacity at each pool and to make sure you are a resort guest. I know the Beach Club requires a wrist band that you can only get with your room key - even little kids needs to show their room key to get the band, and Bay Lake Tower has had a fence since it was built that you need to swipe your room key to get in. I know that first hand because my room key card did not work and had to go through 3 sets of cards to get one to work for the fence and to get into the building. Room door was fine though. This was 2 years ago.

Sadly that 14 year old lost his life at Pop, but I don't think it was entirely due to not having a fence, but all in all fencing is probably a good thing security wise - just will be a logistic nightmare to install for some pools. Is there a new local code that Reedy Creek is basing this fence ruling on or is it just a strong suggestion from them?

We need time for things to happen.
I just had to read through this thread to see how a discussion about fences around a pool could result in it having to be moderated to the point of posts being removed.

I've always heard that locks keep honest people honest.

Claymores are more fun.
