Disney Playing catch up with Universal... Potter Disney's biggest mistake in 20 years...

So it's trolling to say I'm not impressed with a train ride...but this whole topic is saying how bad the fle sucks...tell that to the millions of kids who enjoy it with their families. Universal is not set up to do most things with small children and they never will. They cater to older kids and movies young kids can't even watch...it's why they won't ever catch up in revenue. You think the family with 2 teenagers in skinny jeans with smartphones as faces are going to bring their kids anytime soon...by the way I think Harry potter is the best franchise of all time and glad it's something we all can experience in person
There used to be a time when WDW catered to everyone. I loved it as a teenager. But their focus has changed. I certainly can see why teenagers today would not enjoy the proliferation of princess crap, romper room meet and greets, spinners, and mommy brigade stroller derby.

To say nothing of dragging back a 20+ year-old show at both parks to capitalize on the death of a pop star....
I have to admit that the image of you forcing your 19 year old skinny jean wearing son onto little mermaid while screaming how magical it is cracks me up.

Lol...I only have kids under the age of 6 but I have to admit that was a good one. I agree Disney needs to come up with a few more ways to keep teenage boys interest....only a matter of time with star wars or marvel until we get the next big thing

I love how on these forums if someone doesn't agree that Uni is and has the best things ever created ever they are a troll..

In the real world there is no difference. On message boards like this one there is. To each their own I suppose.
Funny, just the other day a friend of mine mentioned how disappointed she was with her visit to Disney, stating she wanted something unique to bring back home and every store seemed to carry the same t-shirts, mugs and other generic merch. For the record, she initiated the topic all on her own, has no clue about Harry Potter land and has never heard me so much as even slightly geek out over the topic of theme parks. :D

See you can't even insult me with a universal branded movie...just saying

And please, continue to ignore the fact that Universal has had the best attraction in town for the past 15 years, the two best attractions in town for the past five, and (according to virtually everyone who has been on Gringotts) now the top three attractions in Orlando. It adds to your "charm".

The difference is that people want unique items, all be it to simply define who they are and/or to distinguish themselves from the herd, there is HIGH demand to have that "exclusive" item.
I'm not sure that I agree with this. While it is cool to be able to buy a mermaid chotchki when you get off the mermaid ride (or whatever), it is kind of a pain when you decide that you want to buy something and find that it isn't in the store in which you are looking and instead it is half a park away (or on a different park). So if a store on main street has most everything that you can get in the other stores, that could be considered a win compared to having to go to several stores in Universal.

Now this is a new one......using ones own laziness as an excuse for Disney's bland and miserable merchandise selection.

Wow what I said went right over your head. Let me try again....
If a shake stand is right beside a burger joint YOU would obviously say that they both help each other do business because the burger joint draws people to it that go next door and get shakes too. And YOU would also apparently say that the shake place helps the burger joint cause people stop by and get a burger with thier shake but they are both losing sales to the other because the smart business man builds a Dairy Queen right next door and sells burgers and shakes and puts them out of business. I can't make this any simpler but not everyone has a head for business. Every penny UO makes comes from WDW's pot. Every single penny. If disney had UO's exact product, very few people if any, would go there.
It is sad that you are wrong on this because you were so forceful in your delivery.

The problem with your logic is that there is no fixed pool of guests. The two resorts are not simply fighting over 50 million guests so that if Universal gains attendance, then WDW must lost it. Instead, they continually try to enlarge their guest pool. This is made pretty obvious when you take a look at attendance numbers over time. If your theory were correct, we would see one park's increases being reflected as a loss at another. Instead, what we see is all the WDW and Uni parks increase.

The reason that Uni wins when WDW improves and WDW wins when Uni improves is because people decide to go to Central Florida on vacation because they hear about something new and awesome (HP, mine train, new Shamu show, whatever). Something tickles their fancy and they vacation in the area when they normally wouldn't have. So now we have a family on vacation in the area. If they came down to visit HP and they are there for a week, then they likely have some non-Uni days to fill. WDW seems like a good place to fill those days. The same is true for those that came to WDW's siren call. There are only three differences. First, with four theme parks and two water parks, WDW has more things to do before you have to look outward. Second, DME incentivizes staying on WDW property. Third, Disney tries hard to get people to schedule their entire vacations in advance, possibly tying them to WDW for their entire vacations.

Actually, it hasn't. Stoppages have been common, but evacuations have been few and far between so far.
That's what I read at the Orlando Informer forum, people liked it, but they say it was not ready for prime time yet. Actually they were not expecting to have it running today before 10AM.
