Disney Playing catch up with Universal... Potter Disney's biggest mistake in 20 years...

Not once did he call it dull. He called it narrow.

Actually, he did...

it's not pathetic... it's the truth. I'm not bashing what they have created... all I am saying is that street is going to be massively crowded with no where to walk and you are surrounded entirely by tall, dull alley-way type buildings on either side.

I think he meant to emphasize the narrow appearance of the area, but the use of the word "dull" threw many people off when they read his post.

yeah I disagree with the dull part

You disagree with what? The use of the word "dull" to describe the alley, or my interpretation of his use of the word in his post? Personally, I think the alley looks exactly as it should.

Alright, I stand corrected.

Yeah... this thread has gotten so far off track because of that one silly argument that it's almost as hard to keep up with as a spirited thread lol.

Themed entertainment is a creative medium. Their success is measured by fans more in their execution and content than in their revenue.

But if the execution and content is better than why are you so far behind your competition? It's a fail to understand how to get your audience to invest in you. Universal will throw together an attraction to any movie that makes 200 million without even caring how fast it will be obsolete

I did watch the video of the Hogwarts express...and yes it does look nice but really it's just a tv screen and some audio effects..other than that its just a train ride. Some of what they have done at Universal reminds me of how they do their movies overdo the budget under achieve the story

This is not meant as an insult but it is quite apparent that most of you on here know nothing about running a BIG business. I keep hearing folks on this board refer to the fact that UNI isn't taking sales away from WDW and that until they do Disney will not react. The fact of the matter that is not how BIG businesses look at things. When Walmart sees Target's Billions of dollars in Sales they don't say "well it's ok because our sales are still going up. They Say Target has Billions in dollars of our sales. When Pizza hut sees Dominos doing $4 billion in Sales they say "That's our $4 billion and we have to find a way to get it back" It's the same with UNI They are doing Billions of dollars in Sales and that money should be and COULD BE Disney's. The Simple fact is that is if Disney would have built the UO resort IT WOULD BE their Dollars. Big Businesses look at it like this...All the money in the world is ours and we have to find a way to get it in our bank account. That's what Disney thinks and that's what they should be thinking. All the Billions that UNI is making IS coming out of Disney's pot!

There is the factor of guest going to Orlando to see both parks to factor in. Some might not go to Orlando to just see WDW or just see Uni, but they will go to see both parks as they see it as a better return on their money to get two sets of parks from one trip. Therefore both Disney and Uni benefit from each other, and would lose some turns at the gate if the other was not there. There relationship will always be as rivals but they do benefit each other as well. I would say that Potter 2 is clearly helping turns at Uni, but some of those guest are going to WDW "since they are in Orlando anyway" to see Potter 2. When Avatar opens it will be the same thing in reverse.

Less than a week ago MK closed due to capacity, in the middle of the hype of the Potter 2 craze no less.

No doubt each would like to steal share from the other, they would be crazy and incompetent at their jobs if they did not. But I do think they both realize a healthy WDW is good for Uni and and healthy Uni is good for WDW. The trick is to be the healthier one :)

The same reasons a great film may not be a box office juggernaut. Even if a film property is soon to be forgotten, that is irrelevant to the theme park attraction.

Overdo the budget?!?
Do you have any idea how relatively little the Potter expansions have cost compared to the underwhelming FLE?

I've been on the Hogwarts Express and can tell you from experience, just like every other ride, it's better in person and more than "just a TV screen". IMO the most impressive part of it isn't the window display, but the view outside your cabin within the train. The effect looks incredibly realistic and very believable. It looks much better in person obviously but this picture should get the point across.

The window display is pretty high quality too but looks best if you don't sit right next to it.

He's popped in a few times with the same observation, repeating it for no reason other than to drum up some drama. I could cut him some slack were he not a repeat offender of this behavior.
But then you could also say the same thing about the folks that kept arguing with him.

With all due respect, who is keeping the argument going now? No one had even said anything else even related to this whole thing (at least on this thread) for over 24 hours. I had to go back several pages to even figure out when the last bit of that part of the discussion took place.

I thought we had all moved on already...
