While I don’t think Disney will be building a new park at WDW for at least 15-20 years, they do seem to intend to build one at DLR soon.


These are the “hypothetical plans” they submitted to the city of Anaheim and were approved. You can find out more about it on disneylandforward.com

The Toy Story Parking Lot and adjacent Cast Member Parking Lot combined are about 75 acres. By comparison, this would be larger than Disney Studios Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and DCA. If they can find a place for a big enough parking garage to replace this lot, it could be a viable option for a separate third gate.

The words “intend” and “soon” appear to be highly subject to interpretation here

There are three very detailed plans that have existed since and before Iger got there. Iger has been anti fifth park since he got in the CEO role the first time.

There are always hundreds of thousands of dollars in planning and concepts in file cabinets around WDI and corporate.

We are a long, long way away from park 5.

They don't even know how they are going to staff the four WITH the CP once EPIC's resort expansion fully opens.

While, from a park fans perspective, this may be the proper path forward, from a marketing perspective, a third gate in California is a worthy ambition. No matter how much they add to the current two parks, the majority of vacationers are going to see Disneyland Resort as only needing 2-3 days to see (1-2 days for DL, 1 day for DCA). Adding a third gate psychologically makes vacationers think they will need an extra day to see everything allowing the resort to get 25-33% more revenue from each guest without needing to directly draw a greater number of guests.

Marketing need things to market. Disney pushes hands of marketing teams to market what is trendy.

Disney's entire game right now is openly admitted to only putting in properties that they produce for film and television.

They have saturated the parks so much with the current for synergy, they don't have enough resources or want to do in-house IP to do things like they did in Hong Kong Disneyland.



And they won't waste squeezing in 68 acres plus support when they can get more money off of hotels for that space.

What would they even fill the third park with?

Exactly right.

For the record, it is not wrong in theory when Iger became CEO and addressed quickly that he had no interest in pushing for a new park, but rather focusing on improving and adding new additions to the current four.

The problem is so often, he didn't do it.

And more to the point of not even close to a good time for par five at WDW, it is also not a great time for Park 3 at DL with the land they did acquire.

However, a waterpark at DL is likely as it cheaply expands the days for hotel nights, large ROI and low investment of land compared to a theme park.

Hollywood Studios: New land to replace Launch Bay. Rock n’ Rollercoaster retheme as well. Falcon mission update.

Disneyland Resort: New, unique Avatar land using the Shanghai pirates boat technology at DLR. PeopleMover comes back in a new way at Disneyland Park alongside significant changes to the land. Hollywoodland will go away. A Disney Springs-esque shopping district will be officially announced alongside plans for a new transit configuration for the resort. The Avenger’s E-ticket gets an actual announcement.

Walt Disney Studios:
Gets its own Avatar land and a Lion King land. Other misc. project in the existing part of the park.

Disneyland Parc Paris:
A larger than Soarin’ sum, so perhaps Soarin’/Soaring 2.0, Indiana Jones Adventure, or even a new version of Rise of the Resistance. I’d fully expect either a new land or two new rides including an E-ticket in total. Space Mountain will be back at DLP!

Shanghai:
New Marvel Land, Toy Story Mania as well.

Hong Kong will get an E-ticket in Tomorrowland still.

Plans can still change, but most of this should be announced by or at D23, some of this is long-term, though and might not be included.

Much of this is fantastic, but is it too fantastic to be believed? I hope you're right!
