Disney plans hiring freeze, some jobs cut......

I know several families where the moms take the kids to the parks, and the dads play golf…maybe just hire Bill Murray as groundskeeper.:.
They have so de-emphasized sports/recreation activities over the last 20 years that I think that will go soon too.

Really a shame. That was part of what made the compound more attractive even if you didn’t participate yourself.

Didn't even know there was one, and we love those movies.
Does this inspire confidence? Comes out in a month and virtually no buzz. Probably cost $100M+.

“Disney+ Original series, “National Treasure: Edge of History” is an expansion of the “National Treasure” movie franchise told from the point of view of a young heroine, Jess (Lisette Olivera), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer in search of answers about her family — who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.”

Same “formula”…an old story with new faces that are about the faces…

Go ahead and clutch the pearls

I know I'm helping take things off topic but gotta ask - how was the Neon Museum?

Last time I went, you had to book in advance and show up to a padlocked chain linked fence to get in and they were selling dollar bottles of water out of a cooler on the way into the tour. Was great fun, just the same but they were talking about the plans for the soon-to-be relocated classic motel front to serve as a welcome center. I'm guessing that's all been well completed by now.

I'm guessing your last visit was more than a decade ago? It's a fabulous place, and yes the old La Concha Motel is now the welcome center and gift shop. Has been for years now.

I've done the Neon Museum before, once during their night tour when the signs turn on. Again, it's fabulous. I was just jetting up there from Caesar's in a taxi early this afternoon to divebomb the gift shop for a few t-shirts and things for E-Z Christmas gifts (if you are on TP2000's Christmas Gift list, you usually get cool stuff), and I happened to hear on the taxi's radio this news about Bob Chapek announcing cutbacks and freezes and lions and bears, oh my!

I didn't do the Neon Boneyard tour today, just the gift shop. It's kind of a shame it's so far from the Strip, but it works in its existing setup. And the staff there really sparkle; so unlike the average dullard Parks Cast Member now, which proves that sparkling employees still exist in the 2020's. Just not at Disney Parks. :(

Now that the Liberace Museum is closed, the Neon Museum is really the only reason to leave your chosen Strip hotel/casino. There's also a Mob Museum nearby, but I'm Scandinavian without a drop of Italian blood in me according to 23andMe, so I have no real interest in that one.

Before I head out for the evening, I wonder how many members of the Cubicle Army in Burbank will actually show up in the office this Monday morning instead of continuing that lazy "Work From Home" scam?

There's nothing like a looming round of layoffs and cutbacks to make the Cubicle Army suddenly show up to work in person. Look at me! I'm here! I exist! I do stuff! Have I mentioned I love The Company?!? 🤣

Yup!

Used to make annual trips but that all changed almost exactly 10 years ago.

Will get back there some day, probably when mid-day naps are required if I'm doing anything in the evening, too but the tradeoff has certainly been worth it!

Thank you for the update. :)

They can't be cutting from the parks - they're making money and already understaffed. The cuts are going to come from the movie/tv divisions.

The focus right now really should be creating cheaper original content for the people who aren't interested in Disney's franchises and aren't subscribers, instead of making expensive lesser franchise stuff that really only appeals to the core fans who are likely already subscribed to Disney+.

I like your description…COMPOUND…it does seem like the correct word…not that it isn’t a fun place anymore, just that it’s taking almost as much work to find that fun that it takes to plan the trip to begin with.

Odd that some guests dream, save and count the days until their WDW vacation to have fun and the flip side the cast going to work everyday to try to find that fun. Times that we live in.

That’s just it…guests going for the first, second or even third time don’t really have anything to compare it to…we super fans know what WAS & COULD BE…that’s what’s leaving a bad taste in our mouths.

Imagine going on vacation to a resort like Gaylord Palms and being told that services were cut back because the company needs to pay off other debt not related to said resort. Like that's not my problem buddy.
I mean you won’t be told that, but that’s exactly how it works. You just don’t hear about it because REITs don’t have their memos shared with the media.

No business exists in a vacuum, if I’m a guy who has a nice little ice cream shop that makes good money but I overextend on a new car I buy myself, guess where I’m turning to cover that.

And when that other part of the business turns profitable, there’s never any pay back. You’re told the business units are separate and it doesn’t work that way.
