TWDC were proud to say they didn't have to advertise WDW. Aside from a special event or opening they didn't run promotions or buy advertising.

I have every planning VHS since 1993 too.

Did these Marketing Campaigns Start with the millennium Celebration in 1999?

I like it. I get it. They're emphasizing what matters most on a Disney trip - the moments with the people you love. They were all inclusive of all different kinds of people - i.e. at some point in these commercials you should see a representation of your family making memories.

It's not about standing in line, rushing for ADR's, making jokes about meth labs in the hotels. It's about memories. It's almost "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." That's what Vegas is about. This is what Disney is about.

I'm actually going to miss the Disney Side ad campaign and social media campaign. With an emphasis on it being advertising campaign, not a promotion.

I think some folks tend to mix these things up when referencing past promotions that included giveaways and special events.

The same thing happened when Disney Side was introduced.

I do wish they did bring a promotion back though, as the only one I have been able to experience was Limited Time Magic, which I scored one of those free Jingle Cruise attraction posters. (Framed and up on the wall now)

My wife has a bunch of pins from the Year of a Million Dreams. She said it was a pretty exciting time to be at the parks during that promotion.

My first reaction was the same as many of yours: "Unforgettable? I'm ALWAYS forgetting where I parked my car, what time my reservation is scheduled, the directions back to the hotel, etc. etc." :D
Back in the olden days, before cell phones with built in cameras, we had to remember what lane you were parked in. So much so that the CM's on the trams would continuously repeat it all the way to the gate. They also made the tram passenger repeat it back, as a group, a couple of times. Now all you have to do is snap a photo of the lane marker and that takes care of the memory problem. I still remember the lane I was parked in on my first visit back in 1983. It was "Goofy 27"! Those will probably be my last words.

They need to go back to Magical Gatherings and push more of the group getaways... That is the best part about Disney, sharing with friends and family!

Thats right, with the ghawdawful what-on-god's-green-earth-were-they-thinking Castle makeover.

Still trying to block that from my memories....
The 25th was the first big blitz, followed by, in much smaller scope, the opening of animal kingdom. Both had a ton of print and television ads and were complimented with huge in-store campaigns at McDonald's.

Here are some old slogans....

"Make the Dream Come true"
"Where dreams come true"
"What will you celebrate?"
"Where magic lives"
"Magic Happens"
"Year of a Million Dreams"
"This is the Start of Something Big"
" There is magic in the air"
"Ears to you"
" This is the Time to see the world, Walt Disney World"
"The magical place to be"
"Year of a Million Dreams"
"Most magical Place on Earth"
“Been there, done that, going back”
" Be our Guest"
"Remember the Magic"
" The most unbelievable vacation on earth"
"Started by a Mouse"
" Experience the Magic"
"Where once upon a time, happens once upon a day"
" Celebrate the Magic"
"Where the ordinary is always extraordinary"

There's more...but wall of text makes the point...

I think more people pay attention than we think. It was in the middle of a recession when Disney was breaking record attendance thanks in part to people getting in for free on their birthdays.
...which was a freebie. So thank you for proving my point! Unless someone has a chance to get something free, they (a) don't notice and (b) don't care about the "marketing campaign" currently in progress!

"Where Magic Lives" is the one that always resonated with me.

Don't forget the campaign slogan for the Millennium Celebration (Mainly for Epcot) for 1999 and 2000. Which after seeing the commercial on VHS for Tarzan was my first introduction to Walt Disney World.
"Celebrate the Future Hand In Hand"
