Oh my. It's like clockwork with the usuals coming out to "call out" the insiders. Sigh. Wash/rinse/repeat ....

Love this ride. Going to miss it. Glad they're finally doing a Mickey Mouse ride but it shouldn't be in the GMR. It's like WDW does everything they shouldn't do and ignore what they should do that makes sense. I'm so tired of the shoe-horning. And the DHS makeover has been a complete dud IMO. Nothing at all like the momentum DCA got from theirs. Big miss ...
its all $$$$$

I really don't see a way they can justify closing this before TSL opens in 2018. Is it likely that the contract is cut short or just a possibility?
I'm with you on this. I can't see how they can charge people $100+ to go to DHS if they take another ride out (and an e-ticket too). The people here in the know all seem to agree that it will close before TSL opens so maybe they will add some other temporary stuff to occupy people's time, but it's almost criminal at this point to keep charging full price.

I don't understand how a ride based on historical old movies can "feel dated". Isn't it supposed to be about the Hollywood that never was and always will be? Isn't the very mission a description of dated material, no longer in high demand but what made Hollywood, well, Hollywood?

I love films, it's my passion. The ride tech feels dated, the context of how the audience is presented these wonderful movies needs a redesign. That is my opinion, but the ride doesn't capture my imagination as it once did. I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say it.
Haunted mansion still has that certain something.
To me, this ride feels like you are window shopping. When you window shop, you want those windows to be refreshed...see something new. I feel this ride would need to refresh every 5 years with other classic films that the audience could immererse themselves. I know that isn't practical and would never happen. It's just my opinion.

Well, to be honest as a movie buff, you are very familiar with those things being presented. At first, you can, like the rest of us, marvel at the depictions shown, but, with time the glow wears off and you are stuck with scenes that look like they are being acted by plastic (almost real looking, if you squint) doll like actors. Something that repeated exposure will do to anyone, but, especially to someone very familiar with the topic.

Haunted mansion, on the other hand is packed full of creatures for which we have no comparison. They can't get old because (well, they're dead for one thing) they are fantasy and there are a gazillion of them. You can ride it a thousand times and always see something that you missed the first time around. That and the fact that parts of it have been changed helps present a new perspective as well.

In other words, no attraction can be old until we are exposed to it multiple times. After the initial exposure it gradually becomes less awe inspiring and more directed on what we find fun and different. To quote, or at least paraphrase, from someone whose name escapes my memory... 'The fault my friend is in ourselves'.

I think by adding digital mapping projections to a lot of the scenes they could look a lot more cinematic...Like they did with the Alice ride in Anaheim, and for God's sake, just rewrite the damn show...the script is terrible and more frequently than not, you end up with a tour guide that is so completely bored with their job, they do nothing to advance the story and mumble through the script...I know, I have had a few really great tour guides, but let's face it...they are few and far between... If the show writing and sets were upgraded, maybe this would not be an issue... Gangsters and Cowboys could give way to Zombies and Aliens.. lol Much could be done to refresh and renew this attraction without trashing it...and the Mickey ride would be PERFECT for the animation courtyard...creating a perfect transition from the world of classic movies to the world of animated characters... Seems like a no-brainer...and replace the completely lame Toy Story Land idea with a fully realized 21st century Toontown with multiple attractions...Now Mickey's house would make sense after going on the Great Mickey Ride...it also paves the way for any of the other animated characters to have attractions there...

Toontown could work in Animation Courtyard and leave the TSL plot open.

What if you entered the Great Mickey Ride through the Animation Building....and the exit for the ride came out in the Toy Story Lame i mean Land expansion plot...which would now be an expanded toontown...the Mickey ride would serve as a portal emerging into the land of classic toons... it would be brilliant...and magical...like the old EPCOT Pavilions like The Living Seas... a journey to a special place...not just a ride at the end of the street.. To me that sounds a million times more magical than walk around the corner and see a bunch of fiberglass Toy Story statues and a ride and a barely themed spinner...

Well I wouldn't have TSL in that plot. It would be either Pixar or Frozen if it wasn't put in Epcot.

My biggest issue is that of all of the movies they could take out and replace, Tarzan's probably it. Maybe Casablanca (but that's a strong maybe, I love that movie). GMR covers Adventure with Indiana Jones. I'm not entirely sure what they would put in its place though. Maybe a comedy? The ride doesn't focus much on those.

One could make the argument that Singing in the Rain is a comedy, and quite a good one in fact (though it's in there as a musical).

Having the Tarzan set themed to 'comedy' would possibly allow multiple comedy's being represented, from different years. Or just pick a comedy with a lot of stuff going on like Caddyshack (50 bucks the Smales kid picks his nose)....

Or just stick with I've suggested earlier by replacing Tarzan with the ninja volcano invasion scene from You Only Live Twice.

I wouldn't really say that's ever been my experience/problem with them at all, but rather just that they all tend to be pretty crappy actors. (Part of the reason why I enjoy the TCM narration, actually)

The exit to GMR is on the opposite side of the building as TSL. Any path there would be way too long.

If you are a pretty crappy actor, it is probable that you are also bored with the script or completely wrong for the job of working on that ride....If you are a crappy actor you should be working on Rock N Roller Coaster or the Muppets...not an attraction that REQUIRES acting skill... this is a staffing/management problem...as well as a lame script....

Disney could save money (which they love doing) and clone Roger's cartoon Spin in this Toontown you've envisioned....a great tribute to the Roger Rabbit stuff they announced early on but never did! We've come full circle with the park we knew as Disney-MGM Studios! But gosh darn it, that's another idea that's too good and makes too much sense.
