Everest was the last original ride stateside or DCA's Red Car Trolley if you count that.

I'm really not surprised. Recent DC movies suck except for the Dark Knight Trilogy.

For comparisons sake, WDW's Splash Mountain took 22 months.

Let that sink in.
At least The Lego Batman movie sounds decent. Then again I loved "The Lego Movie"

A ride featuring just Mickey? Hmmmm.... Honestly, I can't really see that being a big hit. Mickey is the heart of Disney, but I don't think today's guest has ever seen most of the old Mickey films. I could more envision a journey through the history and evolution of Disney Animation films, starting with the mouse of course and perhaps guided by him, but with scenes from the most recognizable films through the years... Snow White, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Bambi, all the way through to their most recent films, the list to choose from is endless. The music, the moments, the heart and soul of what has made Disney what it is. Although I love the Great Movie Ride and would miss it, that might be a worthy replacement if done right.

Philharmagic has Donald Duck as the main headliner and it is considered a classic.
Fantasmic has Mickey as the headliner and again is considered a classic.

Each of those has many other characters and events that play out over the course of the film or show.
I'm sure this ride would have other elements and other characters involved.
Disney's fantasia with sorcerer's apprentice was created in 1940 and that cartoon short is still as imaginative today as it was then. My kids love it.

I doubt many kids have seen Song of the South....yet it's one of the best rides ever made.
Kids know who Mickey Mouse is. He is as well known as Santa.
If you build this ride....they will come.

The only movie in this franchise that will be worth seeing is the Ben Affleck Batman movie and MAYBE Wonder Woman. JL, SS, and all others planned sound and look like they are going to be horrendous. But, I'm sure they will all be rebooted again in another 10 years in hopes that they can finally compete with Marvel.

The Dark Knight was and is to date the best superhero movie, though GOTG, Winter Soldier, and Civil War come awfully close.

So the news finally breaks.

I love the new ride concept but hate its proposed location; I'd almost rather an LPS ride through the movies that are already in the GMR. Despite its age, I appreciate the GMR for introducing me to classic films. If it weren't for that ride and its movie clips, I wouldn't have been interested in Alien, The Searchers, or Amadeus.

And even if no one has seen the movie, people know "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah".

The Dark Knight isn't even the best Batman movie. That honor goes to Batman: The Movie, released 50 years ago this week, starring Adam West and Burt Ward! TDK is too inconsistent in it's message.

Some sort of TCM walk through attraction with the AAs would be nice with GMR out. Alas, I shouldnt be this hopeful...

I am truly curious. Why do you propose doing a "walk through attraction"? Other than OMD, I cannot think of another walk through at WDW (I do not consider 360 movies as walk through). Today's customer doesn't appear to want to walk through anything - and based on the number of ECVs that you see in the parks nowadays, they don't even want to walk from one attraction to another. (I don't intend to single you out over this, a number of references have been made to walk through attractions, but yours was the latest.)

Avatar was a fine purchase and the land should be immersive. But, the fact that the movie came out almost 10 years ago and the planned sequels aren't anywhere near completion or even filming at this time is troublesome. My only knock on this is, do people even care about Avatar anymore? I enjoyed the first one, as did many people since it broke many box office records at the time, but who knows if anyone even cares anymore. Other then it being something new, how much success will this land have long term?

On paper (IMO) this was an excellent idea. We will see if the rides are great and the land is just as immersive. Time will tell but this land at night has the potential of being a game changer.

Getting the rights to Avatar did two things.

One, It filled the need for that fantasy land section we were promised back in the late 90's with Beastly Kingdom. Now Animal kingdom can say they have lands from the past, present, and fantasy.
Maybe no one cares about the movie in 20 years...but the world that was imagined is fantastic and a perfect fit for Animal kingdom. If Disney had created this same concept, called it Beastly Kingdom and said it was a fictional planet displaying the possibility of animal and plant life in the universe. I believe few would have complained. Tip the hat to Cameron, movie was OK....world was incredible. The world is coming to AK.

Two, it took the concept away from Universal. Had Disney built Beastly Kingdom and it was a success...Universal could have theoretically trumped them with Avatar Land. Disney didn't want more egg on their face after Haryy Potter. I wouldn't doubt James Cameron just yet, he knows how to make films (or copy them :) )

This land could fail..but not because of what happens to the films. It will fail because the rides aren't good or the land just isn't that immersive and the night walks prove dull and uninspiring.
Lets hope that isn't the case. This is a bold move by Disney, I want it to work. AK is my favorite park.

They re-theme a few rides, and make Mickey Mouse the centerpiece of the park. They could call the park Walt Disney Studios or something along those lines.
Simple and effective. Everything in the park from Pixar to Lucasfilm will be under that umbrella.
Would be easy to market.

1. Mickeys magical mystery tour
2. Muppets 3D
3. RnR coaster (possible re-theme)
4. ToT (possible re-theme)
Star Wars land
5. Star Wars adventure ride
6. Star Wars falcon ride
7. Star tours (is this closing?)
Toy story land
8. Toy story mania
9. Slinky Dog Dash coaster
10. Alien swirling saucers

Shows like fantastic, fireworks, frozen ect.
Themed shops, restaurants to the surrounding land.

Mickey's just might be the headliner.
This could be the start of a great park

It actually seems very unbalanced to me.. To justify all the Star Wars and Toy Story rides, they really need more independent rides or developed lands.

Sorry, guys, the best superhero movie is and always will be Superman: The Movie. :)

The ORIGINAL superhero

Edit: referring to comic book. I realize Tarzan, Zorro and Buck Rogers preceded Superman. But I never really thought of Tarzan and Zorro as "superheroes" as we now view them.

The spiel for TGMR is pretty poor

It really is a pretty weak script, and I know it's a very small thing, but I can't stand the exit spiel: "The action begins with you remaining seated until we come to a complete stop..." Sitting still is the exact opposite of action. In all these years has no one ever thought, "Maybe it should be The suspense builds as you remain seated..." or something similar. I'm probably the only one, but that line just drives me crazy whenever I hear it.
