I refuse to reward Disney for closing classic attractions by buying merchandise for the attractions they are destroying.

While I don't know until the ride opens, I imagine they'd be going for the 'Get a Horse' with this ride.
At D23, the presentation made it clear they are using the "new" Disney Channel Mickey shorts as their artistic aesthetic for the Runaway Railway ride. Those artists are going to be supervising/creating the animation.

How about this hot take: The Mickey ride will likely be very different from the GAME, but equally as enjoyable and it's going to be really nice to have a new inventive experience in Studios to draw crowds from SWL

When the park can't handle the Star Wars crowds because they chose to replace the Great Movie Ride rather than build this in addition to it, I don't know if you'll be saying the same. Also, it's sounding like this will not be as great a ride as Battle Escape, which is unfortunate, because Mickey and the center of the park deserve more. Also, it will have a lower capacity. Also, it will not embody the theme of the park as much as the GMR concept did.

Otherwise, I too am excited to see what they come up with.

I wonder when the new name of the park will be announced. With the removal of the Great Movie Ride, and with it one of the last vestiges of the park's former soul and inspiration, I see zero reason to continue to call it "Disney's Hollywood Studios" any longer. :grumpy:

Perhaps they can monetize the name of the park and sell rights to it - "Disney Movies Theme Park, presented by [insert corporate sponsor]". I mean, absolutely nothing is sacred to this band of management jackals, and it's painfully apparent that there is no stone they won't turn over in their search for more money, so why not?

Both Mickey and the centerpiece of the park deserve much better.

When would
When would MGM rights fall into the public domain? A land mixing the 3 different styles of movies in one spot would be intriguing.

Good point. I'm not sure. Although we enjoyed Oz the Great and Powerful, which had several similarities in style to the MGM original. Given the current buy ip strategy, I do think Oz would balance Star Wars and Marvel, which I feel are more teen male oriented.

Not sure how real the rumor was, but using the Discovery Bay plot for Oz sounded great, going into Dorothy's house in the Frontier, then getting swept to Oz...anyone have any idea how close that got? @GiveMeTheMusic ?

AFAIK there was a proposal - I want to say Baxter was behind it - but I don't think it was ever really taken seriously, especially once the film came out.
