@marni1971 Will this ride have any Animantronics?

Good question!

If Jim's rumor holds true; I wonder just how well those angular-drawn, hard-outlined, exaggerated "pull and stretch" animated characters will translate into three-dimensional animatronics. We've seen the good (Dwarf Mine Train) which used projected faces, the bad and the ugly (Little Mermaid) which was, IMO a poor conversion. I'm hopeful for AAs but ones that better resemble that particular 2D illustrated style.

How would they best create the zany slapstick over-exaggerated pull and stretch motions? I'd be happy to see them use a combination of classic darkride flats, regular AAs, projected scenes and larger scale puppet motion tech as used on Lumiere in Enchanted Tales with Belle. But...

My guess: heavy-handed use of screens and projections with limited motion 2.5D animatronics.

Of all of the possible announcements and replacements, this is the ride I have the highest expectations for. This COULD, emphasis on "could", be an experience that makes me not too upset about GMR closing (of which I love dearly). I expect to be wow'd.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here but I never really liked the Great Movie Ride. It has some amazing scenes and effects but MGM never tugged at my heart strings.

I love Prime Time and Sci-Fi. R&R and TOT are great.

I really liked One Man's Dream. I could nerd-out over WDW history and models all day.

I'm waiting for the guy from New Jersey to chime in...

I'm from NJ (is it me?!) so I'll bite...not sure you're actually in the minority to be honest. WDW has done very little to give GMR a chance to survive. Those of us who would like to see it spared not only like the attraction, but also see how badly DHS needs to add attractions, not simply replace. I'm all for a Mickey ride and I honestly hope it's great. It's just a shame that another unique attraction has to bite the dust to make way for it. Is what it is, I'm letting go at this point, seems it's a done deal so no use losing sleep over it. Just hoping I can catch GMR one more time next month!

Jim Hill is reporting that it will be new, wise-aleck, youtube Mickey (which I really like) in this new ride. @marni1971 can you confirm? All of a sudden this attraction seems a whole lot zanier and more fun to me :)

Will the company have the guts to get rid of soft-edged, corporate-friendly, teddy bear Mickey? I hope they do.
I like Jim Hill, but it seems like he always has his own strange twists on existing rumors. Like when he said the Guardians Tower would re-enact a scene from the movie, or that the Tron Coaster would involve the removal of CoP.

I think a lot of this is due to who is the source. There are usually competing proposals and options for the same attraction. His source may have either older information or be working on a version that didn't get enacted.

I love the GMR - it.....like everything is down to personal preference - I am a movie nut - I love movies and I enjoy the ride immensely, its light, its fun and I love watching the montage at the end.

Is it outdated? perhaps......could a renovation revive it? - update some scenes, include modern up to date graphics and digital mapping perhaps?

I feel the studios need to maintain the celebration of movie history - We wouldn't have this park without the great films we all know and love.
The loss of this along with the closure of the backlot tour just seems an awful shame and some history being forgotten.

I am in total agreement with you. GMR is a film history leason unfortunately many know nothing about. Could it be updated of course --will Disney, probably not. IMO Disney has lost sight of what was once MGM studios. May be they should rename it Star Wars studios The back lot tour was great ,should never have closed.

I'm there in late August and can book FP+ for GMR, would be great if someone else can report on September.
I will know tomorrow 07/11. My 60day +10 opens up at 7 am. That would be to Sept 18th I believe.

That said, Disney can still pull the plug, even if FP's are scheduled. So it may not mean much. However if we can't book them, we may have a potential closing time.
