I might be in the minority here but I enjoy the new shorts, they're silly and fun. Not the right design choice for an attraction though.

I agree! I enjoy the new shorts as well! But if Disney said "we're going to stop using all previous versions of Mickey and only use the version shown in these shorts", I would be a bit upset. If they did want a "new" Mickey, I'd like to see them do something more in the style of the new Ducktales... seems a happy medium between classic and new...

As for what version of Mickey to use in a Mickey attraction... could we see multiple versions "evolving" through the ride? I don't think that would be so bad...

I would take that over "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Mickey" anyday now. Glad they improve with Mickey and the Roadstar Racers.

Our 2 year old watches mm clubhouse and the computer animation irks me too, basically because it's so lazy looking. Included in that statement is lion guard, and the new rapunzel show.

Yeah the shorts really are a callback to Mickey's early days. It's one of the few times corporate actually gives a damn about nostalgia.

I think any version presents problems.

The Disney XD one works really well for the shorts, in my opinion. But he isn't the extremely jubilant character that he is today in the parks. He also never adresses or really makes eye contact with the viewer, so I don't know how that would work in a ride. It needs to be more engaging than a short. I think it needs music too.

Mickey's personality in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is much closer to how he is today in the parks. However, if they use that one, I feel like it would be odd for the ride to have the classic Mickey Mouse March instead of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse version. Though I do think the MMC version is more catchy...

Also, the closing "hot dog song" is really good. Hey, I'd go for a MMC ride any day!

That and the evening projection show, Once Upon A Time.

And creating a Mickey ride.

And the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

And every park having M&Gs with Mickey and friends.

And keeping around and refurbishing rides long in the tooth: It's A Small World, Carousel of Progress, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc...

And featuring the classic princesses in just about everything.

Other than that, Disney doesn't care about nostalgia.

What's funny is that Mickey and friends actually sang the "Mickey Mouse March" in one episode for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. The same thing happened in one episode of the show where Mickey and friends go to space and Donald can be heard humming "Quack Quack Quack Donald Duck" briefly before they take off.

At least Disney cares more about nostalgia compared to Universal.

LOL what?
What Disney movie does any character make eye contact with the camera?
What does that have to do with anything?

And Mickey's personality in the new shorts is a commentary on how overly jubilant the character has been portrayed by Disney in the past decades even though the original Mickey is not like that.

Case in point:

The new Mickey Mouse shorts is also the second attempt by Modern Disney to go back to Mickey's original personality before he became "The Everyman" since the 1940's.

This is different from rides based on other Disney movies. Here, they have a choice between multiple versions of Mickey. If they choose the XD one, they're choosing a version that does not make eye contact OVER a version that does. The imagineers aren't going to have the XD Mickey talk to the riders, because if that was their intention, they would've chosen a different Mickey. I think their choice says a lot about the kind of ride this'll be. That's my point.

And on the commentary... yes, I do get that. I also really like the overly jubiliant guy he's become, and I think it's done well for Disney. My 1930s nostalgia is not setting in... pethaps because I was not alive in the 1930s.

As mentioned so far the only notable places where you can see the XD Mickey (I like to call it "Paul Rudish Mickey") at WDW would be at the All-Star resorts in the restaurants as artwork.

I also love them. Some are a bit on the artistic side, less funny, but really imaginative, particularly the ones where Mickey is gallivanting about in another country.

I really love how the new Mickey shorts would sometimes reference obscure Disney films such as Make Mine Music and features cameos from Disney characters in some of the shorts.

Quite a few park references, too. For instance, in "Space Walkies", Mickey and Pluto return from their mission and land in TomorrowLand.
