Well... it needs a little plussing... The Tarzan characters and Sigourney Weaver need a little work.

And the Buzby Berkeley roundtable and water effects, and the acting, and the voice over, and the face of Gene Kelly, and the lack of kinetics in the Mary Poppins scene. It's a movie ride. I wouldn't call it "great."

I don't mind the acting; it's corny, but I like it.
Gene Kelly's face seems to have gotten worse over the years. A reworked musical scene would be very much appreciated, but if Mickey takes up shop in the building, it won't happen.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
After the Wizard of Oz scene which is very well done, my favourite part is the movie montage at the end. The previous montage; not so much the current one.

Am I correct to assume that the turn around time for this project would be rather lengthy? I mean, we wouldn't be just talking an overlay like Frozen or ToT (DCA). This would be a complete gut and re-build. Maybe 18-24 months in the work from GMR closure to grand openings of the new attraction (is that realistic)?

Just a guess here but with it possibly being trackless would that make it quicker?

Ouch. It's gonna be a lean year at DHS. It's already stripped down without losing one of the e-tickets.

I guess they want it ready for the massive crowds when SW opens. Of course they could have both if they just build somewhere else.

Before that happens, they could replace Ariel's show with Tangled or Aladdin as a people eater. With the new BatB out, I doubt they'd change that show up, though it could use something new. They could convert Sunset Showcase into a semi-permanent theater for another show.

Then, there's always the Gondola ride. :D

At a minimum, Beauty and the Beast could use some updates to the foam costumes.

Technically, they could have The Great Mickey Ride open before TSL. Since they only signed a 3 year contract, and the TCM changes were unveiled May 29th, 2015, that means the earliest possible closing for GMR would be on May 30th, 2018. If they manufacture all of the ride's showpieces / animatronics / ride vehicles off site before GMR closes, then as soon as it closes they gut it and install all of the previously manufactured items, they could have it done before late 2018, which is when TSL is rumored to open. This would be even easier if the rumors of the Chinese Theatre facade staying are true. This is all speculation though.

I've mentioned this previously, but my hypothesis for why the Ripley figure is so bad in comparison to the other likenesses in the ride is because Ms. Weaver didn't authorize Disney to use her likeness in the GMR. She is extremely picky with how her image is used. That's the only reasonable explanation why she has always looked that bad.

The original plan was to have the Mickey ride open before SWL opens so potentially yes.
They better start soon, then! GMR would have to close during 2017 to meet that deadline.

Not that the company sees any problem with announcing an E-ticket closing just a couple months in advance. It's not like anyone rides GMR anymore, anyway, right?

I was shocked at how much Fastpass+ had artificially risen wait times here! 125 minutes last week?!?!

The smart way to do this would have been to build Mickey elsewhere. Mickey would be done and open before SW Land. Then in 2019/2020 close GMR and refurb it in time for the 50th.

I'm guessing it takes a minimum of 18 months to 2 years for construction. GMR needs to close in 2017 for Mickey to be ready for SW. It's taking 6 months to add one AA to hall of presidents, no way they build a whole new ride in that timeframe. The sponsorship deal should be relatively easy to get out of...they just have to give some cash back.

Hall of presidents is not exactly a good comparison. With GMR they could have product being designed and manufactured long before the closes. With HOP they really can't do anything until after the election.

It may take 18 - 24 months for construction, but if construction took place off site and started before GMR closed, then only a few months of downtime would be needed to gut and install everything. That's pure speculation though. Hall of Presidents is taking 6 months because they are likely going to have new visuals and narration added, as well as updates to some current animatronics and maybe even a speech from the new president himself. I'd say a 6 month time frame is pretty good for doing all of that.
