When it closed, the Back Lot Tour was a D ticket at best. It really was awful in recent years.I was counting losing the Backlot Tour.
Don't get me wrong, I'm certain the Star Wars E's will be better, there is plenty to be said for entertainment refreshes and refurbs... but from a pure net ride gain perspective, they aren't really adding a whole lot.

But then where would you hold dance parties and sell $100 cupcake buffets? Oh, right . . .I'm surprised TDO doesn't just shut the park down completely and just redo it all already!! ha
Ahhh, too bad. I really like the ride, even with that Busby Berkeley eyesore and the cheap-looking "tribute" to Fantasia that replaced what was supposed to be the twister scene from The Wizard of Oz.
On the other hand, if soon there's not going to be a Great Movie Ride anymore, there'll never be a Great Muppet Movie ride. Silver lining!
It is troubling. So let me get this straight. The super duper DHS redo has now become a net gain of 1 E-ticket, a bare coaster and a whip ride.
Meanwhile Disneyland has green lit a net gain of 3 E-tickets minus whatever you want to call Gadget's Go Coaster.
How exactly is this shrinking the disparity?
It was. Directly into the front entrance plaza.I'm pretty sure that was the original plan for building the Hollywood Hills Amphitheatre where it is. I think the plan was to exit into the parking lot..
It is troubling.
New rides for old - which used to be a given - but the park with the problems is not actually growing.
Would you be able to tell us if you think the new IP for GMR would fit thematically inside the Chinese Theater if the facade stays, or is it a very large stretch?
This really will mark the end if an era since they ride closed for real which is the last place left in HS that is still dedicated to movie history.I've heard from a very reliable source inside Turner that The Great Movie Ride Sponsorship Deal (Only a 3 year contract was signed) is not up for renewal. This was not a TCM Decision, it was Disney's. Evidently they have plans for a new attraction to take the location. The current ride will be shut down shortly after the deal ends and planning for a replacement attraction has already begun. Can anyone else speak about what this replacement attraction will be? PM me if you can't talk much about it. Personally I find it sad that Great Movie Ride is closing, but I can kind of understand why, the more I think about it.
If the ToT ever gets replaced by GoTG will that become a park icon if it ever happened?Demo and new Park icon?
Look on the bright side, at least this can give more guests a reason to visit AK.So we have the possibility of losing the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and The Great Movie Ride, in addition to all that has already closed (Osborne Lights, Lights Motors Action, Backlot Tour, etc.)? This is totally unprecedented; There will remain little more than remnants of the park. .
In addition to the mistake of removing popular and iconic attractions, Disney is much too quick to bulldoze its own history.
The Wicked Witch AA amazes me after all those years.Very dated? Aren't classic movies still classic? Sure the animatronics could be updated, but I still find most of the scenes relevant to the ride's theme. Okay, Alien and Tarzan could use an update, but this attraction still remains popular and fits the current theme.
Now if this is because the park's new name and direction will be entirely different, then maybe I can understand it more. I just agree with Martin and others who would prefer to see new attractions added from scratch as opposed to scrapping those that already work.
Not the kittens!I'm sorry, i was too enthralled with the idea of a kitten in a blender.
