Disney Merch at Six Flags New England

The New CEO of SF is Mark Shapiro who was Executive Vice President, proramming and production at ESPN which is Disney owned, so he should have a grip on the Disney Philosiphy. I guess he is trying to mimic the mouse.

I didn't read all of the replies so sorry if this was already said but...
Disney no longer owns the Disney Store
So maybe SF owns the Disney Store, or maybe the same company owns both the Disney Store and SF mech??? Just a thought:rolleyes:

This is nothing more than a merchandising deal, and the mouse will sign with pretty much anyone who will move more product.

You are 100% correct.
This has nothing to do with Disney attractions.Disney did not buy Six Flags and Six Flags did not buy the Disney Store. This is a Disney Consumer Products license deal.As weird as it is to see Disney merchandise at Six Flags it isnt going to hurt Disney at all but it will just help Disney sell its merchandise at another outlet.Lets face it Six Flags will never be Disney even with the new Shapiro guy running the company. It may be a fun place to go and nice regional theme park however will never rise to the ranks a WDW.

If you look at the price tags and the merch racks, they are Disney Store merch racks and Disney Store tags. TWD sold TDS chain to the Children's Place (I forget what the group name is that owns it) a few years back and sells licenses for the products. Childrens Place had an agreement with SF a few years back, and maybe that agreement was renewed and altered to include the aquired Disney product.

Disney-Pixar owns the rights to CARS and has not given out many merchandising licenses yet, so that is why there aren't a ton of CARS products out there (yet)

Who owns the Disney Store

The Children's Place (Hoop Enterprises) now runs the Disney Stores. I'm a bit confused whether or not they actually own them outright right now, or whether they had a 2-year agreement that Disney would technically own them and The Children's Place would operate them (until which time as after 2 years are up, then TCP would own them outright).

Something like that...

For those of you going to Six Flags Great America. I'd love a to compare the new "character dining" Six Flags Great America is trying to introduce with our WDW versions. SFGA is my local park, but I have been debating a season pass. A new work opportunity just may let me visit WDW more often, so I'm waiting to see if it works out.

For those who don't know about it, SFGA is bringing back fireworks, a bigger parade at night, and this character dining. But there is a problem here. These parks for years were designed with teenagers and young adults in mind. I not only worked at SFGA, but enjoyed the park today. It is one of the better Six Flags parks. It is fairly clean, and they do spend a lot of time on their gardening. Too bad they are so reliant on teens for their everyday workforce. They'll never be able to gain the quality of Disney, and a big part has to do with their "we'll hire anyone" attitude.

Fireworks? I had no idea what you're talking about for a second, but I remember seeing a loony toons type parade two years ago with small ground fireworks, or something. it actually made me kind of nervous.

And to the character dining, I know nothing about that, my group is just going to be that bunch of teenagers going for the rides that you talked about. :)

Disney Store North America is owned and operated by The Childrens Place (Hoop Retail). They purchased the stores in November of 2004 -- with a unique lisencing agreement.

Although not owned by Disney, Disney Store North America is very closly associated with The Walt Disney Company and holds an office inside Disney in Burbank, California.

As for the merchandise featured at this Six Flags park... the clothing, mugs, and plush are not Disney Store merchandise. That product is the typical Disney junk you can find in your local Wal-Mart. As for the CARS product -- it does look familiar -- but all Disney Store merchandise is considered "Disney Store Authentic Original" -- so basically, you can't get it anywhere else but a Disney Store inside the U.S.

The fact that Childrens Place can't bring Disney character merchandise into their own childrens stores... makes it kinda hard to believe that Disney would let them sale it in other retail outlets whom are associated with the company.

But isn't it kind of... I dunno, bad for Disney's image to have their characters being advertised and sold in a Six Flags park? They don't exactly scream "Magic Kingdom"...

Exactly....I hate it when an amusement park copies any of Disney's ideas. Seeing that merchandise at a six flags park makes me sick.

The standard Mickey/Donald stuff being there suprises me, but the CARS merchandise doesn't. I don't think I've gone an hour without seeing some type of promotion for the movie within the last few weeks. My wife and I were just discussing that the only place we haven't seen a ton of CARS merchandise is, oddly, The Disney Store.

I have to disagree...There was TONS of Cars merchandise at our local Disney Store the other day. Basically bought them out for my nephew's birthday:animwink:

I don't find it wierd only because you see Disney merchandise, either legal or illegal, just about everywhere for sale. It's a brand and a highly successful and recognizable one at that...

You would never see anybody else's merchandise in a Disney park. So why the fuss? In my opinion, Disney is a theme park. A travel destination. Where as 6 Flags is an amusement park which is primarily visited more by locals. To compare them is apples to oranges... Yes, they are both fruits but that's as far as they can be compared.

I just can't compare the two so I really don't see any big deal with the Mouse making a splash at 6 Flags.... :D
