Disney Merch at Six Flags New England

I think it's just a matter of open licensed merchandise. Disney doesn't have 100% control over all merchandise that it licenseses. Basically, they give a manufacturer the OK to produce a Disney item and that manufacturer produces the items, pays Disney the licensing fee, and then sells it to retailers.

If I owned a shop on Clearwater beach there is no end to the Disney merchandise that I could sell. Six Flags is just doing the same thing.

True, but I, too, find it odd that 6-Flags would choose to sell Disney stuff. I mean, you would NEVER find a Bugs or Daffy anywhere near a Disney place (store, theme park, etc.).

Wouldn't that be awesome!!! Let's start a "wishful thinking" rumor here about Disney buying out all 6-Flags parks!!!

i dont know if i am the only one but i think it would be a disaster if disney bough six flags. They dont even come close to our standards. And another reason they might be doing this is that they said they are going to start making rides and things like that 4 kids and the mouse is the most reconizable character to kids. But no, there is no way we bought there parks. Disney is too smart to do that. In the six flags in baltimore i was walking to a rollercoaster that is in the back of the park and there is this one walkway where there was dirt around it and no green stuff to be seen. It was terrable. The only thing i could think of about a takeover is that disney just bought that park and there gonna fix that one. But i doubt that too.

Yes it is a license deal.Disney Consumer Products does biz like that all over.Look down I-drive or 192-Every store has Disney goods.Even though Consumer Products and Disney Attractions are the same company they are totally different entities that have totally different agendas. It is odd to see Disney merchandise at Six Flags but dont see any real problem with it.Disney is a worldwide mega entertainment comglomerate with theme parks.Six Flags is a theme park company that showcases Warner Brothers and other companies characters.I think they are smart to realize that Disney branded merchandise is the most popular licensed products in the world and they want to capitalize on that.

I understand the economics of it, but isn't this sort of like Burger King installing a McDonald's playground because they know McDonald's is more popular with kids? Or going to a Ford dealership and finding Mazda3's for sale there? Or buying an Old Navy tshirt at Aeropostle?

I agree - pretty weird. I wouldn't think that Six Flags would want people walking around wearing clothes or hugging stuffed animals that advertise their competitor.

Actually, I can remember in the early days of MGM Studios, when the backlot section of the park was themed to Roger Rabbit much more than it is today, there was a store that sold all kinds of Looney Toons merchandise (plush, shirts, etc). I guess since the characters were in the movie.

Why not? Disney is a franchise that makes money. Six Flags realizes this and wants to make money, so they sell what the public wants.

Just remember people, the only weird thing would be if Disney started carrying SFTP merch. Then you would see an issue.

If Disney had bought six flags they would have to make an announcement. Lets get real it's a listed company. They don't buy companies out without telling shareholders they make announcements. Six Flags isn't owned by a movie studio it is free to sell what it wants. The new management realise they have to go for the family crowd and sell high end money making merchandise. They are in the process of changing their offering as they said recently so this ties in. At the end of the day SF selling Disney merch will not make them a major competitor. They are in a lower league, I travel twice a year from the UK to Florida to go to Disney I wouldn't do that to go to SF New England just because they sell Disney merch. No offense to Matt I am sure New England is lovely and will visit someday when I decide to visit more states, Cali is next on my list.

Well, just to let you guys know, there is also and entire Disney store in the Six Flags America in DC and one in the Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ. I was just recently there and was shocked when I saw the window displays. They had coffee mugs, shirts, hats, pants, costumes, candy, games, and other merchandise. I walked up to the person running the shop and asked them why it was here and they said that they had no clue.:brick:

Honestly, the Six Flags by me (Six Flags Darien Lake) has had Disney Merchandise in its own store since I was going there when I a kid (20+ years ago). They still have it today, mixed right in there with Bugs and Tweety (a kid oriented store)... but then again my mall has plenty of stores that sell Disney stuff without being a Disney Store (like Hot Topic for example... and I'm pretty sure they aren't owned by Disney..LOL). Its just merchandising, and I would be getting worried IF I saw Disney Characters on things with the Six Flags logo or walking around the park. Then I think we would have something to talk about.
