News Disney Jollywood Nights - Disney's Hollywood Studios Holiday Season ticketed event

You're confusing poor execution vs. apathy.

The event entertainment alone showed that they care because it sells tickets.

I'd like to see what the next few dates look like before writing this event off completely.
Interesting to see how tomorrow night's event goes. Then there's another two days later on 11/20. So two more almost back to back events where, hopefully, they can right some things. My hopes aren't very high though.

I’m guessing they do. They did invest a bit into this party and there is a ton of profit at stake.
Do the same hours as MVMCP.

1. Tip Top Soiree. Great idea. Should've been inside to make it feel special as if you're in a function hall for the Hollywood Tower.
2. Toy Story Holiday Overlay. No brainer.
3. Smuggler's Run could've had an overlay where you're delivering gifts to the younglings on Life Day. (Gunners could be launching the gift packages)
4. Stage show based on Muppet Christmas Carol.
5. Free Gertie Christmas Cookies and Cocoa.
6. BB-8 Meet and Greet where he's dressed like a snowman.
7. Rockin Rollercoaster Around the Christmas Tree. (Holiday music, red/green lights, decorate the plywood set pieces)
8. Toy Story character meet and greets (dressed for Christmas).
9. Simple holiday parade akin to Stars and Motorcars.
10. 50's Primetime holiday overlay (Going home for the holidays for dinner).
11. Sci-Fi Dine-In could play Christmas movie trailers.

There's a way to make a really decent holiday party at the Studios...but what they did is not it.

I can see everything but #3. That would require reprogramming the ride. Besides, they're he**bent on not disrupting the theme of GE. #6 would have to be outside GE. Maybe in the central hub. Whatever. The rest of the park could easily have been overlaid as you indicate.

Same hours as MVMCP results in the park closing to day guests at 6 pm. No thanks.

The ride overlays all sound great, but ride overlays aren't easy changes. Star Tours is the only one that gets updates but it's very simple ride. TSM, is also a shooter and hasn't been touched since TS3. MFSR is a glorified video game and isn't going to change anytime soon. Plus you know how Galaxy Edge East likes tinkering with any of their stories.

Yeah stick a few greenlights in RnR and a Christmas hat or two in the pre-show is probably doable.

A lot has been made of how WDW is adopting the video game practice of locking unique experiences behind paywalls.

Now it seems they’re extending this practice by making the first group of paying customers functional beta testers.

You get a unique experience at Grand Floridian vs Pop Century too, there are always levers that people are willing to pay for.

I think as long as it doesn't impact the day guest, it's mostly fair game. Themed parties has been a thing for a while on both coasts, it is what it is.

Kind of. In California the themed parties are usually for specific audiences. Star Wars fans, LGBT, History Buffs, Date Night, etc.

The Oogie Boogie Bash is the 1 exception that I can think of.

Disneyland offers more free for the holidays than Studios offers for pay.

Even just in Florida you get more with a regular ticket at EPCOT than you do at the hard ticket at DHS

If they did care they would’ve invested more than “a bit” into this party.

M&Gs: poor (98% characters you can meet daily)
Two Unique Bar locations: executed very poorly and cheaply.
Ride Overlays: nonexistent
Event entertainment: aside from short waits for attractions, this is the only positive of the event.

They don’t care. They know we’ll all line up and pay.

Considering the refund demands and lack of sell outs for Jollywood, I don’t think people are lining up and paying.

Agree, and I think it's such a dumb, short-term thing to do. They invested next to nothing into this, so I'm sure it pulls in profits. But, you've burned through a lot of good will you could have for future events. I have to imagine a lot of people will now wait to at least see what they announce for these things before even considering buying tickets (and even still, might wait for reviews first now). I'd bet a lot assumed this would be on the same level as the MK Christmas parties which is why people bought the tickets. Even the most staunch Disney defenders are panning this.

Since they announced the party back in July, it seemed sparse. I’m more shocked by the people surprised at the lack of things to do. It’s been documented the little they would have since they announced it.

Honestly, I was expecting very little and they still provided less than I expected.

Based on the artwork and marketing, I would have expected way more live entertainment and way more characters.

We often joke about here that the only offerings Disney comes up with these days are merch-related, new popcorn buckets, magnets, etc. Really pathetic that they couldn’t even put that minimum level of effort into this and only had ONE t-shirt for sale that sold out immediately. Good Job, Good Effort!

I mean, that’s not even Disney being cheap, the profit margins on merch are insane. They cost themselves money by not having merch! That’s just the execs in charge of this phoning it the hell in and not giving a ****.

Th big things that shocked me by how bad they looked were th Brown Derby Lounge and especially the Tip Top Lounge - they really promoted them and they were pathetic
