And regardless of what characters they can/cannot use, they can't use the Marvel branding at all in the parks for attractions on the east coast. Even the posters (at one point, I can't quite recall if they found a workaround) at DHS didn't bear any marvel branding.
Have there ever been Marvel posters inside DHS, with or without the Marvel logo? I don't think I've seen them inside the park (mainly the ones by Pixar Place and Animation Courtyard) before. Unless there were some for the Doctor Strange preview (which I think is the only Marvel preview in the park so far?) I don't believe they've been up before.

They can put Marvel all over merchandise though. Plenty of that stuff in DHS.

This is a small thing, but Walt Disney Presents currently has some costumes from Black Panther and the placard does read Marvel Studios above the title.

I believe the intent of the contract is to prevent branding an *attraction* as 'Marvel.'

Disney sells merchandise with the Marvel name on it, previews mention that they're from Marvel studios, a Disney Springs store had 'Marvel' in the name, all in addition to the labeling of that costume with "Marvel Studios." It's probably as close to the line as WDW can get.

I'm sure it's no coincidence that the costumes presented are for supporting characters and not Black Panther himself. Same thing happened when there were some costumes from Dr. Strange.

Merchandise in the parks used to be retail only (which I thought was to the letter of the contract), but they have started doing theme park specific merchandise, either some lawyers aren’t paying attention or Disney is purposely pushing on the contract. (Likely someone isn’t paying attention).

FYI anything in the central meteor crash site with the "meteor shards" across from Spiderman (Central to the story of the island) is an enumeration of characters specifically called out in a contract addendum. If it's there it's a safe bet WDW cannot use it. Aka the "shards rule". If it's not there its in more of a gray area.

Google street view of it is https://www.google.com/maps/@28.470...4!1seIOU4CqHG5K-_R0QWZNYGA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 -- It's been repainted and redone since that photo, but the art remained the same.

Dr. Strange is not there (The character that somewhat resembles him is actually the "Angel/Archangel" character from the 1960s), nor is the Guardians, however Drax is off limits. Captain Marvel is NOT there (Doesn't mean disney can use her, it just puts them in the gray area similar to Dr. Strange, so she can probably be used in limited faction, the name of the character however makes it really interesting because of the name "Marvel" clause, though). Black Panther is there and cannot be used.
Where is Drax featured?

My gut is telling me something has to be planned for this pavilion in the near future.... Disney does not just spend money on making a empty space look good if that was not the case.... Even if in 2 years this area is busy with the new Guardians ride why spend the money now.
Walt Disney Imagineering and Facility Asset Management are two separate units.

I dont disagree with that but they could fix the leak with a lot less work if that is all it is going to be... band aids are way way cheaper and disney knows how to use them well.
Roofs require maintenance and replacement.

Drax isn't on there but he's solidly tied to the Avengers (particularly Iron Man) more so than the other gray area characters. I'd be shocked to see him at Epcot whatsoever based on the history of that character and reading of the families clause in the contract. I'm pretty sure there's no direct reference to him in the new show at the very least or any concept art flying around.

Your last statement rings true at present. We were in Epcot on Saturday at the American Pavilion to watch some of the Guardians dance whatever it is. There were merchandise carts covered with GotG items, all with the Marvel logo showing. I thought that name wasn’t allowed in the parks at all but now I guess I was incorrect with that assumption.

I just have a hard time believing that they're going to build the Guardians coaster and not include Drax.

They could always just call Captain Marvel ‘Carol Danvers’ if there’s an issue. There’d be a large contingent of people who wouldn’t know who that was, but as long as a picture is always used with the name, it could work.
