Universal needs to stay open later and offer more to do at night to really become a week or longer destination vacation spot. At least for us, we'd run out of things to do after 5 days at the most.
WDW has the advantage in restaurants/nightlife/hotels.
There is lots to do in CityWalk to keep you busy each night. I do hear that a lot in regards to staying longer than 4-5 days. I always manage to make a visit a week long. Hanging out at the resort a couple of days and riding things multiple times makes it easy to stay for 7 days. Last time I was there I rode the Mummy 11 times during my stay.

Announcing anything today would be weak. Let Universal shine. Unless WDW was announcing a brand new park with a detailed idea of what was to come, their announcement would be basically ignored. Let people bask on this announcement, stick to your regularly scheduled (assumed) Mardi Gras announcement, and leave the big guns for D23. You'll need them.

We've been to CityWalk and find many more dining/shopping/drinking options at Disney Springs.
Also, I suppose it's how you vacation, we don't usually re-ride that many times. Though the new park sounds intriguing.

Does anybody seriously think Disney’s attempt at Jambalaya or Beignets would be good?
They already have beignets at WDW, at Scat Cat cafe at POFQ. I have not had them in very long time, so long ago, they were offered in the POFQ food court. I wasn't wowed at the time, but the pics of the new dining area look nice. I might try them again if I was over that way.

WDW already has four parks. This will be Uni's 3rd. (I know, I know, they count Volcano Bay as a "park" too, but for apples-apples, I'm not counting that.) So Disney's counter would be delivering on what they have teased already -- Tropical Americas area to replace Dinoland in AK and expansion behind Big Thunder in MK. Maybe even another pavilion in Epcot. Not just re-working Splash and a new show for CBJ, for example.

Not really. From a marketing point of view you don't punch back with park expansions against a large brand new park like because those aren't equal at all.

If WDW wasn't asleep at the wheel, then they would have all those things in the works to counter market the new park next year. Their goal should be to make it a WDW Vacation where people may go to EU for a day or two. Except now, they have none of this in the works and they are going to be hoping people spend a day or two at WDW on their Universal trip.

That's my point. It's not about making an announcement today or yesterday but being proactive. Last D23 was the time to be going all out for 2025 instead of Blue sky ideas.

You let them win the round and then announce all the stuff you have listed. If WDW wasn't asleep at the wheel, then would be letting Universal have their day and then coming back with all that stuff to make it a WDW trip with a day to EU.

Except now it'll be the other way around because they aren't going to be countering with all that. All they have is how to save money and come see Tiana's.
IMO not doing that they are going to be losing market share in the process.

It also helps that Universal took out a loan for Epic Universe when interest rates were small. It seems like Disney is waiting to see those drops before doing any major expansions.

They have teased ideas... they have blue-skyed ideas...they have committed to nothing but a new show for the Country Bears and a re-themed Splash Mountain Foods Factory and Salt mine... Epcot's big makeover was adding a water play area and relandscaping the central Courtyard...after they created an entire display and preview center for things they never built...
With the opening of Epic Universe, they have nothing concrete going on... Well Possibly the Cake Bake shop will be finished by then...lol
If they didn't have that huge expense of tearing down and building and then rebuilding it, the Fireworks Video Show debacle and the Galactic StarCruiser, they might have had a budget to get a project or two completed...At least that money could have gone a long way to freshen up ALL of Epcot, not just the central Courtyard Spine area....

Does anyone even care about D23 anymore? Anything announced that actually is built usually takes years after the announcement to even break ground not to mention so many that never break ground

Where? Almost everything at WDW closes between 10:00 pm & 11:00 pm every night. Sure DS is open till 1130 on the weekends but what's an extra half hour? There is no real draw for nightlife at Disney anymore; The Edison attempted but I don't know if they bother anymore with their late-night offerings.

Agree, Las Vegas this is not. As an adult, and late-night person, I wish WDW had at least a couple of nightlife venues open until 2am.

Jellyrolls is open until 1:30 or 2 AM (and is a ton of fun) but if you're not staying in the Crescent Lake area you have to use a rideshare to get back to your resort. That's the only thing I know of, other than maybe the Atlantic Dance Hall next door (never been in there).

It was a mistake to shut down Pleasure Island entirely. Shutting down a few of the clubs may have made sense considering there were so many, but having a place for people to go out at night was a good idea.

I think they are pretty good. They always have a specialty option which is fun too.

One point in Disney's favor is Universal consistency closes its theme parks at 6:00 or 7:00pm... something you don't see Disney doing anywhere near as often.
