Disney considering making more themed mod resort rooms (with pics and proof)

Actually, that just reinforces the fact that Disney should learn from Universal. They should let UO raise prices first, then follow up :)

Of course, then it would turn into a never-ending waiting game. Who's gonna move first....?

By Universal raising their prices to match Disney's only shows that they are a follower, not a leader. The same goes when Disney raises their parking rates. But if you look at why Universal came to Orlando in the first place it all makes sense.

You're exactly right. But there's also a tiny bit of strategy in there that I like to give UO credit for.

When Disney hikes prices, everyone gets mad and screams and they get slammed for sodomizing Joe Public with outrageous prices in this terrible economy. Then, once the dust settles, UO sneaks in and posts the same prices without a peep. They generate the same revenue with less of the negative press. Genius.

But yes, UO is a copycat and the underdog - not just by opinion, but by the numbers.

I think having an Orange County Sheriff sub station in the middle of Universal's walkway from the parking lot says enough about the type of behavior problems they have. And when it's Halloween Horror Nights they have to set up extra tents to detain more people. Can't get much more negative than that.

I still wouldn't buy it and nor will many others. People who stay at Deluxe resorts don't find the value in the same things those who stay at moderates.

You don't build a five star restaurant around the foundation of Golden Corral but just make the food better. It's a total conceptual shift.

Why does everyone have this idea now that Universal is family and Disney is just princesses? The only way Universal is family is if everyone is over the height of 46" and loves coasters, simulators, and dark subject matter.

Because I don't know of many families with kids over the age of 8 that still like to go to WDW. Disney is slowly realizing this fact, although I doubt they'll actually do anything substantial about it. Milk the rep, rest on the laurels, coast on the wave of "good enough". That's the new WDW way!

Universal just offers more for families with teens. No other way around it.

And as for the themed rooms, you've never thought how neat it would be to stay the night at a real Tower Of Terror or Haunted Mansion?

Make it immersive enough, nail the theme and demand quality. The rooms would be on a constant wait list.

It goes to show how little people actually pay attention to what Universal does. They already raised their prices back in January to be ready for the Harry Potter crowd. So this is twice in one year they've raised their prices...

It's less "genius" and more of people not caring/paying attention to what Universal is doing. Disney is under a microscope 90% of the time with the media AND public.

Really? Guess maybe then you haven't actually been in WDW.

I said I don't know many families with teens that still like to go to WDW.

I didn't say they didn't exist.

Among our circle of friends none of the families with teens care about going to WDW again, they all enjoy Universal much more now.

You must know some unusual families. Most of the ones I know still want to go to WDW, no matter how old they get!

Yes they're all bands of freaks!

It's just how we roll.

Honestly how many teens do you know that would rather stay in a castle and see a princess over a night at the Hard Rock and a day full of mega-coasters?

Actually, most families I know with teenagers don't go to Orlando period. If they did, they wouldn't go to Disney. I have actually spoken to several parents who thought it might be nice to take their older kids to Disney because they didn't get to go when they were young. And all of the families I'm thinking of cancelled their plans because the kids wouldn't be caught dead in Disney.

(Obviously, I love it. Just pointing out that we here at the forums are anything but "normal".)

So now Disney is all castles and princesses?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Did no one ever mention WDW caters to younger kids on this forum before?

How about a simple comparison...Halloween Horror Nights vs. Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

See the difference?

Which one do you think the average teen will be more interested in attending?

I was a teen just a few short years ago and would have rather stayed here in Jersey and gone to Six Flags (blah) over going to Universal.

Disney is worth the trip, Universal is no different than any other amusement park imo.
