Disney confirms 'Frozen' makeover coming to Epcot's Norway Pavilion

I still don't see how this will work with the current track configuration. The left side of the boat at unload is the maintenance area so guests would have to exit on the same side as they load in that area. This would already double the wait times that Maelstrom had.

You're correct. Unload will be on the same side as load and it isn't just because the maintenance area is to the left. After leaving unload, the track makes a sharp left and loops back around making a dead-end for pedestrian egress. Even if they moved the maintenance area they'd have to build stairs going up and over the track which isn't a possibility given the tiny space. Guests will most likely unload a tad earlier than they did before to the right in the vicinity of the rocky outcropping with load being exactly where unload was. It won't make the capacity any worse than the previous setup but it isn't ideal obviously. If they had decided to go with that boat-omnimover hybrid concept that was patented back in 2013 then capacity wouldn't be as big an issue but alas, I don't believe that's happening.

A Frozen ride at MK has plenty of potential space. Even if they just reuse already existing space within. Particularly the squandered space to the right of Mermaid currently being misused by ugly circus tents. And that's without even actually expanding any. If they grew up one day and decide to put some actual effort in to create something up to standards with their own legacy, there's a large unused expansion pad outside the train tracks beyond the circus area. It was intended for use one day until Disney forgot what the word "expansion" really meant and decided it just meant to play musical chairs with their existing developed land and buildings...

A major contributing reason MK has such horrible crowding is due to the lack of decent and high capacity efficient rides. In spite of the recent "expansion", Fantasyland still falls far short of Disneyland's FL in ride quantity. All the other parks need help too, but MK isn't even remotely fixed with FLE. Especially considering they didn't actually add any rides, just played musical chairs with existing or lost space.

Another two or three dark rides would actually help the park capacity concerns. Along with a larger scale high capacity E ticket like what was planned a decade or so ago. Not to mention reimaginings or expansions to Tomorrowland and Adventureland (Tomorrowland needs a massive overhaul AND expansion and Adventureland needs at least one new ride). In the meantime, expand the other three parks but do it properly and without compromising their dignity and intent.

I agree. but look at how Disney sees it. All those little girls (currently) love frozen. That means mom & dad will now have to add another day onto their pass to go to Epcot. $$$

I've heard that LOAD will become Load/unload... Not Unload.

I can say with certainty that the ride track will not be extended. The existing layout takes up all available space within the show-building. If they were doing something ambitious or worthy of the film we'd be seeing an assortment of new building permits and a scheduled opening date far beyond 2016. Expect a shorter, cobbled together version of The Little Mermaid attraction that takes you through some random sequences from the film highlighting the big musical numbers and a beautiful new queue that will be more detailed and impressive than the attraction itself filled with iPads that have some sort of abomination of a mini-game to distract the little ones while the parents endure a 400 minute stand-by wait. The current unload scene will double as loading to allow for the addition of a brief show-scene at the former load area. The "show-stopping" Let It Go sequence will begin shortly after the current troll encounter with lots of fiber optic white lights blinking around you during the backwards sequence. The forward flume will act as the climax to the song leading into the former Oil Rig show-scene which will now contain some sort of digital projection of the transformed Ice Castle mixed with large plastic icicles hanging from above. Unload will provide a brief and rushed "good-bye" using an Olaf voice-over. Befuddled guests will be asked to disembark quickly and then funneled into an enormous gift shop selling things that are already available at every store on the planet. The End.

I'm so saddened to think you may be right. Time will tell, I guess. Either way, it's true that frozen fans deserve more.

They should've been building out all the other parks for all this time so we wouldn't have this problem today. Disney made their bed, now they have to lie in it.

This.

If Disney had built out Epcot and Hollywood Studios, Frozen would have been a great addition to the Kingdom.

And to jakeman, I meant, as you took it, thematically. I totally get the 'needs rides' argument. I just don't think of Arendelle and Olaf when I think of Hollywood Studios. That's another problem, it's just shoving it somewhere because of the movie aspect of the park. I don't agree with that, whether either the Studios or Epcot need rides or not. Sadly, and while I don't agree it 'fits' at Epcot, it fits better there than Hollywood Studios. I don't get why people want the ride at the Studios. Because it's a movie?

This is news to me and I'm having a hard time understanding the logistics. The current available space at LOAD is far too short to allow for both loading and unloading zones. Also, it makes thematic sense to have people board in the Village room since the water extends beyond the flume allowing it to appear like you're entering a boat at a dock in Arendelle.

Probably because of how the other Studio park has been doing things. Would Frozen really be anymore of an intrusion at DHS than Diagon Alley is at USF? I wholeheartedly disagree that it fits better in Epcot than DHS. I've said before that DHS could work really well with the same model as USF. A park stuffed with quality immersive rides/lands all based on movies.

Hasn't the entire building be gutted, though?

I agree with you. It's just not how DHS is yet. If they, you know, made over the park when they should have, I'd probably agree about Frozen into DHS. But our luck they'd rip out the Great Movie Ride. Why wouldn't they shoehorn it there too?

Gimme a TRUE Pixar land with mini lands, Star Wars, etc. and I could potentially agree about Frozen. I'd personally have Arendelle take over the entire Animation Courtyard, TBH.

I think 5 minutes is a very good attraction length in 2015.

The thing about that is Frozen could've come first, followed shortly by Pixar (or even simultaneously depending on the plans for Pixar and how fast it could get done), and finally Star Wars if they planned everything correctly. But who am I kidding, this is WDW. No way they would've planned that smartly.

Did Maelstrom load one or two boats at a time? I'm pretty sure it was one. The Maelstrom unload area had a 45 degree angle. Think unload/load there similar to Gran Fiesta Tour. It doesn't really help with capacity, but it adds another show scene.
