Disney confirms 'Frozen' makeover coming to Epcot's Norway Pavilion

Just one question - although I understand very well why Frozen is technically no Epcot material, and tend to agree, why is it more shocking than the Akershush restaurant offering princess meals? Princesses who, by the way, are not Scandinavian! And everyone loves it, praises it, never says "it's so not Epcot or Norway"! I might be slightly comparing apples and oranges here, but still...

You are absolutely right...this has bugged me from the beginning... I think it was just a case of the most underutilized restaurant in EPCOT with a vaguely castle-like feel...Though it truly never made a lick of sense.
Why didn't they just remodel Odyssey for the princess meals? It was empty and closed at that time....
Who knows?

You make a good point. Personally, I'm mainly just peeved that Frozen got a ride in less than a year and yet Wreck-It Ralph and The Princess and the Frog got jack-diddly-squat.

Because neither of them made anywhere near the amount of money that Frozen did. Not saying it's right, just say'in.

Yeah, and that's why I'm worried that if Big Hero 6 doesn't make as much money as Frozen, Disney's gonna chuck it to the wayside too. Is it still in theaters overseas?

I doubt there is much overlap in those who applaud the character meal and those who bemoan the new pavilion. A ride or restaurant being taken over by a fictional property is lamentable, but very different from a whole, expanded pavilion.

how's that kool-aid @Phil12 ?
I was never a fan of Maelstrom nor Off Kilter so any change is refreshing IMO. Of course Soarin' is a smash hit and usually has long waits so increasing the capacity will be an improvement. The Norway pavilion is the perfect place for Frozen since Norway enjoys a subarctic climate. They'll crank the A/C up so Elsa will feel right at home and guests will flock there to get out of the heat and humidity. It's win for everyone! :cold:

If it's a win for everyone I'm starting to question who I am exactly, because I'm definitely not part of this "everyone" you speak of  Same goes for a good number of other people.

Question to the people in the know.. Do we know, outside of the huge Merchandising opportunity and obvious not so obvious Norway affiliation, why Maelstrom was axed? Because of its age? Attendance? I feel that Frozen could have been included with Maelstrom in 2 separate attractions.

Efficiency. Somebody is going to look golden when numbers surge on minimal cost.

I'm not sure what I an add to this absolutely spot-on assessment. I hate the fact that Frozen is now infesting Norway. If it is anything like the Nemo infestation over in the Living Seas - a cheap retelling of a cartoon - I will ride it once to give it a try and then never ride it again. Nemo would have been a nice C-Ticket family darkride over in DAK. Frozen would have been a very nice D-Ticket over in New Fantasyland. Neither are of the quality of attraction or creativity that should be demanded for EPCOT.

Nemo is a bland and unimaginative retelling of a movie that took the place of something original and neat. I don't see Frozen being anything different. Maelstrom needed some gentle toning, but what it got is a full lobotomy.

I hope I am wrong...but I don't see Frozen in Norway being anything more than a short rehash of the movie that empties into a gift shop that will be mobbed by little kids and parents who don't care to keep EPCOT a pleasant place to spend time. The 120 minute wait won't be worth it. Heck, a 5 minute wait probably won't be worth it. And, the first time I have to push through the Frozen ride line while attempting to walk around the World Showcase promenade, I may be punching and kicking the air as I approach...

It can't even just be finance. I just don't see how a custom, bigger experience wouldn't generate a bigger return.

Probably because they figure they need to strike while the Iron is still hot. Frozen is still very popular and they want to capitalize on that sooner than later. This shows Disney still does not have faith in it's own IP. The fact that they are going cheap and fast is a clear signal of a Cash Grab.

It's also an admission that they do not know how to nurture a property.
