Disney confirms 'Frozen' makeover coming to Epcot's Norway Pavilion

I think you will be happy with NFL (7DMT is sweet) as well as some other things (Test Track comes to mind) at WDW that have changed since your last visit 4+ years ago. I think they know quality still, I think you will see that on your trip.

But I love the Tangled restrooms so I am easy to please :)

I've heard the new theater for Festival of the Lion King is also quite nice.

Okay so, I'm sorry if I repeat anything that's already been said, but I'm only 30 or so pages into the thread and it shows no signs of slowing down so far; no time to read the remaining 82 pages. Allow me to weigh in. I apologize if I ramble or go on at length... It's been a very long & difficult day, and this decision by Disney has me quite perturbed.

I adore almost every Disney animated/computer animated film to date, and those that I don't adore, I at least like. The trailers for Frozen came out... I thought... meh. But I thought, hey, from the trailers, I didn't think I'd like Tangled, but after sitting down to watch it, it became one of my top 3 Disney movies of all time, I should give this a chance. I was hoping Frozen would change my mind the same way, but, nope, I just didn't like it... at all. I can understand why little kids love it, but it's just not my cup of tea. (By the way, the music in Tangled is FAR FAR FAR superior to the music in Frozen, but that argument is for another thread...)

However, being fairly logical, I expected to see a decent amount of Frozen presence at the parks when the film gained it's massive popularity. But holy rusted metal, Batman, this has gotten out of hand, and ventured into ridiculous territory... here's Frozen's footprint thus far:

Frozen Meet & Greet at Magic Kingdom
Frozen Fun Land (Skating Rink) at Hollywood Studios
Wandering Oaken's (from Frozen) Trading Post at Hollywood Studios
Frozen Sing-Along at Hollywood Studios
Frozen Welcome Parade at Hollywood Studios
Frozen Dance Party & Fireworks at Hollywood Studios
Cinderella's Holiday Wish being replaced with Frozen Lighting Ceremony
Big Frozen presence in MVMCP parade
Maelstrom being replaced with Frozen Ride
Norway Pavilion being replaced with Arendelle Pavilion?
Frozen Meet & Greet coming to Arendelle Pavilion

I get it, they want to cash in on their film's great success (they'd honestly be dumb not to), but goodness gracious, this is overboard. Please hold while Disney gags me with a special edition Olaf-themed spoon, and I puke into an Anna & Elsa commemorative bucket (you can get both for only $59.95!!!). I don't think they're done injecting Frozen into the parks, and at this rate, they're going to kill the golden... errr... Frozen goose. I did notice several posts from parents/grandparents saying their kids/grandkids are growing sick of the movie. If this is already happening, by the time the pavilion is done (over 2 years after the film came out), will most of the kids have moved on to something new?

But I digress... back to the point of the thread. I'd be willing to overlook everything else, if they would have just left the Norway Pavilion as is (didn't they just refurb Norway?) and put the ride in Magic Kingdom. My opinion of the film aside, World Showcase is simply not the place for a ride featuring a fantasy land that doesn't exist (and it sounds like the whole pavilion is going to be turned into Arendelle). Those of you in support of this move, you can argue with me all you want, but what I'm saying is not based on opinion... it's based on fact; go and look in every other country in WS, they are all realistic countries without fake fantasy land injections. While it would be fine to have character presence in the pavilion (although there would be lines for days), having a ride based on a movie in a park which, at it's core, is based on world culture... just doesn't make sense at all.

Okay my time keeper is telling me to wrap it up... I'm getting off my soap box now. Back to what I was doing when I heard the news about Maelstrom and the Norway pavilion...

Excellent post and I couldn't say it better myself. Thank you!

What about that estimate do you think is wrong/what is the correct amount? Just curious.

I believe Tower of Terror cost 100 million for the entire project. Even factoring in inflation it is clear they are spending heavily on the Norway pavilion. This is no quick cheap overlay that we were told was happening. This is obviously much more.

Now that does not mean someone like Lee will be pleased with the results. Or many on these boards. But then again this is not designed to be a new ToT but rather a family friendly attraction for young families that are the intended audience. The newest thrill ride is currently under construction at DAK if the rumors are true.

I disagree entirely.
I'd rather ride Maelstrom, as it is now, for 20 more years than see Frozen (or any animated feature) get shoehorned in.

It doesn't belong, and no ridiculous "It's business" or "Arrendale is like Norway" arguments will make it so.

I am so tired of the mindset that when a popular movie comes out that it has to have a tie into the parks. When this was first announced, I went home and told my 15 Y/O daughter who is a huge fan of Frozen and to my dismay she said "why would they do that in Epcot". Well, I guess even a 15 Y/O girl understands that Frozen does not fit the Epcot theme.

I personally am so disappointed that another attraction is going to the toons.

I figured you would approve of less "edutainment" to get more entertainment even if you are not the target audience.
Why does there even need to be a target audience? Can they not just build rides with the goal of entertaining the widest audience possible? I would really like to know who the "target audience" was for rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and numerous other examples that I could list here.

I'm just tired of people pretending epcot is something that it's not. Perhaps with the change to frozen more people will visit the WS and be inspired to visit and experience the real thing.

After some research, yep sure seems bookings are up because of frozen. http://m.travelweekly.com/3_article?guid=260698&t=1&s=1&from=1_tab1
Ed, I think people are reminding each other of EPCOT Center's original purpose and mission. I was inspired to travel more after my first visit in 1982. Frozen will bring more kids into the park, but the park should be and used to be about so much more than tie ins to animated films.

My 10 year old daughter knows every word to every song, in Frozen. She doesn't want this referb either. My 12 year old son? (in disgust) "I'm not going near that."

I'm probably wrong about this, but my speculation has been that this is Disney's Plan B for Star Wars Land. Since that didn't work out, they're going for their next biggest IP, Frozen. All for the battle for 2017.

This doesn't make sense to me. I don't know what you mean. Maybe it's my ignorance, but what does this have to do with what I just posted?
Star Wars. They didn't spend all of that money on the IP just to make movies. DHS needs help, and already has a SW draw in SWW. Could use more.
