Disney confirms 'Frozen' makeover coming to Epcot's Norway Pavilion

Again, it's not so much about educating yourself with a foreign nation, it's about getting a taste of that culture that most people will never visit. A real living breathing experience, that you can touch and smell... that's up close in front of you, not being read from a computer.

If the next time you're in Epcot, you asked the country representatives if they think guests learn anything from their presence, then - whatever the country - I guarantee you'll hear a long list of crazy assumptions, ignorance or stereotypes that guests have said, that justify why having real people from those countries adds an extra dimension.

Never underestimate the ignorance of fellow Americans, and never underestimate the power that real, human contact with foreigners can have in breaking some of that down. Epcot is one of the most powerful places on Earth for breaking down those boundaries.

That is what we are referring to, and anything he did build was either terrible or half of what was there before. The only exceptions to this would be the hotels, DLP, MGM, and a few rides here and there. AK was only half of what it could have been.
Who was paying for it? The amount of money spent on DAK was ridiculous.

now...my daughter wants to know if she will still be able to buy Laila in Norway. Is that part of the gift shop going to close too? Please say no...please say no....

btw I know I can order it online but that is one of the treats she looks forward to buying. Last time we happened to be there when Geir Ness was there and he took photos with her and autographed the bottle.

does anybody remember the days where the characters just walked around in their little area?

My dad has video of Mickey coming from backstage and taking my sisters (6 years old at the time) hand and walking with her around the American Adventure.
The first time I ever saw/met Mickey he was waking around Epcot wearing a very 1980s outfit that was silver and had rainbows on it.

Didn't Ms. Crofton state that the park's original purpose is long gone and the new purpose is based more on discovery rather than futurism and culture?

I'm not sure where I heard that.

I maintain that the park was always about Discovery, and Future World has always been misnamed.

Frozen is a representation of the Scandinavia culture, of which Norway is a part.

WS is showcasing the countries but I just don't see it being done from a education angle, it about selling food and merchandise to me. This Frozen move is just more selling of merchandise. Or maybe I am doing it wrong, when I go to museums I never end up eating as much or buying as much crap as I do at WS :)
That logic would also result in a Princess and the Frog attraction in the American Adventure. Having said that, I have suggested "Tiana's" as a table service in the American Adventure so I'm not sure if that makes me a hypocrite.

This right here.

I have ridden Maelstrom 3 times in my life. The third time this summer was only because I knew it would be my final opportunity to do so. I'm not a fan.

I like Frozen. I've been a big defender of the movie against those who think it has been over-done. Odds are, I will like a Frozen ride more than I liked Maelstrom.

It's the decision to put it in the WS that is the problem.
Agreed on all accounts. Let's say that they're putting out a quality attraction. Based on what we've heard, it sounds like money will be spent and the attraction will be at least a D-ticket. Based on IP alone it will be more popular than Maelstrom, and budget indicates it would be a better ride as well. It helps with the sting, but by no means does it eliminate it. I understand the desire to spread out IPs, but we don't have to like it. Epcot has evolved into a food court and shopping center, and it has been quite profitable in that role.

Disney employs a team of the most creative people in the world, why couldn't they come up with a D/E-ticket attraction in World Showcase that ties to a country's culture but not an IP? Most of the memorable Disney attractions originated without an IP tie in.

i certainly remember, that was fun coming across a random character at any time

It was a designated spot but we didn't realize it at the time. One night, (yes, it's another Moroccan story) my cousins and I were roaming the pavilion; checking out the stores (they have the BEST stores), music, all that (I love the streets in Morocco). During our wandering, we found our way into the Aladdin meet and greet area. But we didn't know what it was. There was no one there so we were just checking it out. Next thing we know, in walks Aladdin. We spent about 10 minutes with him with no one around to rush us or anything. It was great.

My lil cousin, (3 at the time) was scared of the male characters so was about to cry when Aladdin went to her. But he handled it so well. He said something to the effect of 'I'm just going to sign your book' and he did. He then went to give her the pen back but when she went to take it, he flipped it away from her. did this about 3-4 times until she started laughing. He told her 'Abu does it to me all the time'. Well she and Aladdin were best buds after that and she never had a problem with the male characters after that. It was a good night.

Now you can't see them unless you are in the longer lines. But that random happening was magical.

The crowds are my biggest "concern" about this new attraction, but if anybody can handle crowds it's Disney. They really are incredible at it. I have had some professional crowd training, have some more soon. They do it extremely well.
I wouldn't be surprised if they put the current BOG testing to use here. No one can get in without the Fast Pass+ or a paper ticket. see how that works
