Okay so, I'm sorry if I repeat anything that's already been said, but I'm only 30 or so pages into the thread and it shows no signs of slowing down so far; no time to read the remaining 82 pages. Allow me to weigh in. I apologize if I ramble or go on at length... It's been a very long & difficult day, and this decision by Disney has me quite perturbed.
I adore almost every Disney animated/computer animated film to date, and those that I don't adore, I at least like. The trailers for Frozen came out... I thought... meh. But I thought, hey, from the trailers, I didn't think I'd like Tangled, but after sitting down to watch it, it became one of my top 3 Disney movies of all time, I should give this a chance. I was hoping Frozen would change my mind the same way, but, nope, I just didn't like it...
at all. I can understand why little kids love it, but it's just not my cup of tea. (By the way, the music in Tangled is FAR FAR FAR superior to the music in Frozen, but that argument is for another thread...)
However, being fairly logical, I expected to see a decent amount of Frozen presence at the parks when the film gained it's massive popularity. But holy rusted metal, Batman, this has gotten out of hand, and ventured into ridiculous territory... here's Frozen's footprint thus far:
Frozen Meet & Greet at Magic Kingdom
Frozen Fun Land (Skating Rink) at Hollywood Studios
Wandering Oaken's (from Frozen) Trading Post at Hollywood Studios
Frozen Sing-Along at Hollywood Studios
Frozen Welcome Parade at Hollywood Studios
Frozen Dance Party & Fireworks at Hollywood Studios
Cinderella's Holiday Wish being replaced with Frozen Lighting Ceremony
Big Frozen presence in MVMCP parade
Maelstrom being replaced with Frozen Ride
Norway Pavilion being replaced with Arendelle Pavilion?
Frozen Meet & Greet coming to Arendelle Pavilion
I get it, they want to cash in on their film's great success (they'd honestly be dumb not to), but goodness gracious, this is overboard. Please hold while Disney gags me with a special edition Olaf-themed spoon, and I puke into an Anna & Elsa commemorative bucket (you can get both for only $59.95!!!). I don't think they're done injecting Frozen into the parks, and at this rate, they're going to kill the golden... errr... Frozen goose. I did notice several posts from parents/grandparents saying their kids/grandkids are growing sick of the movie. If this is already happening, by the time the pavilion is done (over 2 years after the film came out), will most of the kids have moved on to something new?
But I digress... back to the point of the thread. I'd be willing to overlook everything else, if they would have just left the Norway Pavilion as is (didn't they just refurb Norway?) and put the ride in Magic Kingdom. My opinion of the film aside, World Showcase is simply
not the place for a ride featuring a fantasy land that doesn't exist (and it sounds like the whole pavilion is going to be turned into Arendelle). Those of you in support of this move, you can argue with me all you want, but what I'm saying is not based on opinion... it's based on
fact; go and look in every other country in WS, they are all realistic countries without fake fantasy land injections. While it would be fine to have character presence in the pavilion (although there would be lines for days), having a ride based on a movie in a park which, at it's core, is based on world culture... just doesn't make sense at all.
Okay my time keeper is telling me to wrap it up... I'm getting off my soap box now. Back to what I was doing when I heard the news about Maelstrom and the Norway pavilion...
