Disney confirms 'Frozen' makeover coming to Epcot's Norway Pavilion

BOG = Be Our Guest. It's a restaurant they built as part of the Fantasyland Expansion. Looks like the Beast's Castle. It's very popular so they started offering FP for quick service lunch.

Oh that place. Never been inside. Funny how $500 million was spent on nothing....well nothing superior. For the record they opened up the coaster right after I left. Half of that cost was probably building Dumbo when they had one for free in the ground already.

It was a designated spot but we didn't realize it at the time. One night, (yes, it's another Moroccan story) my cousins and I were roaming the pavilion; checking out the stores (they have the BEST stores), music, all that (I love the streets in Morocco). During our wandering, we found our way into the Aladdin meet and greet area. But we didn't know what it was. There was no one there so we were just checking it out. Next thing we know, in walks Aladdin. We spent about 10 minutes with him with no one around to rush us or anything. It was great.

My lil cousin, (3 at the time) was scared of the male characters so was about to cry when Aladdin went to her. But he handled it so well. He said something to the effect of 'I'm just going to sign your book' and he did. He then went to give her the pen back but when she went to take it, he flipped it away from her. did this about 3-4 times until she started laughing. He told her 'Abu does it to me all the time'. Well she and Aladdin were best buds after that and she never had a problem with the male characters after that. It was a good night.

Now you can't see them unless you are in the longer lines. But that random happening was magical.
That sounds great, if only you had an apple for him ;)
yeah riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight..

My motivation was potentially having Monte Cristo's in World Showcase. It was a moment of a weakness.
Or Swamp Gumbo.

I have been thinking (a dangerous habit, I know). There are threads about quality, change, no change, reductions in options, adherence to original intent, added attractions, etc.

The common ground on which all these threads are based is Quality. Does TDO even know what it is anymore? Well, I am committed, paid, reserved, whatever to go to WDW in exactly one month. It is not my only Orlando destination. I haven't been there in four years. I am using this trip to come to a conclusion on whether to go again.

I am sad, mad and disappointed that I will not be able to go on Maelstrom or experience the shop area during my stay. My DBF and I wanted to visit the pavilions of our own heritage. Mine is French and Norwegian. His is 100% German. Already had to change that plan.

I am sorry Mr. Staggs: a "ride through my favorite scenes and songs from the movie "Frozen" is not what I am looking for in World Showcase. I already have the movie on DVD.

I see what you did there, and I fully agree with the rest of your post.

Jim Hill has been all over this and has consistently said it's the same ride system. Yes things change, but when Jim's info is combined with Lee's budget, the trackless system doesn't seem realistic.

And the permit that has been filed expires in a year. I dont think Disney could gut the building and put in a whole new ride system in that time.

You're right, the word "Summer" is integral to the event based on a fireworks show, ice skating, merchandise and a sing along. Yes, they named it incorrectly but other than that they can retain what's there for the short term.
As far as I know, the "Event" isn't sticking around. It's just leftovers that were popular enough to that they would be unwise to NOT keep those parts around. I can guarantee come Sept 28, all "Frozen Summer Fun" signage will come down, even though a few parts of it are staying.

Actually most of the signage has already been changed to "Frozen Fun" from "Frozen Summer Fun" so some of the signs will likely stick around at least through the holidays.

Okay so, I'm sorry if I repeat anything that's already been said, but I'm only 30 or so pages into the thread and it shows no signs of slowing down so far; no time to read the remaining 82 pages. Allow me to weigh in. I apologize if I ramble or go on at length... It's been a very long & difficult day, and this decision by Disney has me quite perturbed.

I adore almost every Disney animated/computer animated film to date, and those that I don't adore, I at least like. The trailers for Frozen came out... I thought... meh. But I thought, hey, from the trailers, I didn't think I'd like Tangled, but after sitting down to watch it, it became one of my top 3 Disney movies of all time, I should give this a chance. I was hoping Frozen would change my mind the same way, but, nope, I just didn't like it... at all. I can understand why little kids love it, but it's just not my cup of tea. (By the way, the music in Tangled is FAR FAR FAR superior to the music in Frozen, but that argument is for another thread...)

However, being fairly logical, I expected to see a decent amount of Frozen presence at the parks when the film gained it's massive popularity. But holy rusted metal, Batman, this has gotten out of hand, and ventured into ridiculous territory... here's Frozen's footprint thus far:

Frozen Meet & Greet at Magic Kingdom
Frozen Fun Land (Skating Rink) at Hollywood Studios
Wandering Oaken's (from Frozen) Trading Post at Hollywood Studios
Frozen Sing-Along at Hollywood Studios
Frozen Welcome Parade at Hollywood Studios
Frozen Dance Party & Fireworks at Hollywood Studios
Cinderella's Holiday Wish being replaced with Frozen Lighting Ceremony
Big Frozen presence in MVMCP parade
Maelstrom being replaced with Frozen Ride
Norway Pavilion being replaced with Arendelle Pavilion?
Frozen Meet & Greet coming to Arendelle Pavilion

I get it, they want to cash in on their film's great success (they'd honestly be dumb not to), but goodness gracious, this is overboard. Please hold while Disney gags me with a special edition Olaf-themed spoon, and I puke into an Anna & Elsa commemorative bucket (you can get both for only $59.95!!!). I don't think they're done injecting Frozen into the parks, and at this rate, they're going to kill the golden... errr... Frozen goose. I did notice several posts from parents/grandparents saying their kids/grandkids are growing sick of the movie. If this is already happening, by the time the pavilion is done (over 2 years after the film came out), will most of the kids have moved on to something new?

But I digress... back to the point of the thread. I'd be willing to overlook everything else, if they would have just left the Norway Pavilion as is (didn't they just refurb Norway?) and put the ride in Magic Kingdom. My opinion of the film aside, World Showcase is simply not the place for a ride featuring a fantasy land that doesn't exist (and it sounds like the whole pavilion is going to be turned into Arendelle). Those of you in support of this move, you can argue with me all you want, but what I'm saying is not based on opinion... it's based on fact; go and look in every other country in WS, they are all realistic countries without fake fantasy land injections. While it would be fine to have character presence in the pavilion (although there would be lines for days), having a ride based on a movie in a park which, at it's core, is based on world culture... just doesn't make sense at all.

Okay my time keeper is telling me to wrap it up... I'm getting off my soap box now. Back to what I was doing when I heard the news about Maelstrom and the Norway pavilion...

I think you will be happy with NFL (7DMT is sweet) as well as some other things (Test Track comes to mind) at WDW that have changed since your last visit 4+ years ago. I think they know quality still, I think you will see that on your trip.

But I love the Tangled restrooms so I am easy to please :)
