Tourists or non-tourists - people who don't know where they are going tend to be bad drivers. For some reason when folks are lost or confused, the last thing we are willing to do is pull over and figure it out somewhere out of the way - no, much better to drive down the middle of the road, distracted, blocking traffic, and ready to bail out in some ill-advised, erratic maneuver the second we think we might have it figured out.
Of course there is also the corralarry.
Whenever a local sees somone who is going on the slow side because they are looking for a street name or house number, the proper procedure is to tailgate them as close as possible with your high beams on, and when the slightest opportunity presents itself, roar past them, cut them off, and flip them the bird, because you KNOW they were driving slow and looking for signs for the sole purpose of annoying the person behind them, who was in such a rush because they had to get home and sit in front of the TV.
The sad fact is that many many people do not take 10 seconds out of their day to ....here it comes ..... be polite.
Let a person out of a parking spot, give them a break in traffic at a cross street, stop for a freaking pedestrian. I have found that I am rarely in a situation where me arriving 30 seconds later because I have been polite or understanding to another motorist will make any difference.
