Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Offer still stands you and your family are always welcome to dinner. šŸ˜€
Can I come to dinner if I promise not to discuss the double standard between Disney's movie business and Disney's theme park business where in their movie business the budget is seemingly unlimited with as many reshoots as is needed for a movie that loses money at the box office and no one remembers a month after its out of the theater VS. Disney's theme park business where the budget for an attraction is written in stone and when they realize they will run out of money they "scope cut" the cr@p out of an attraction that will be around for 20 years and instead discuss something safe like politics? ;)

But that doesn't answer my question. If it's just this echo chamber, and the normies don't care, why does it matter? It seems to me that someone brings it up, the Zegler defence team swings into action, and the same points get hashed out again. If it's left alone, and no one responds, it dies off. It seems there's some white knighting going on.

She said what she said. It's going to make some people mad, others not so much. This kind of thing has been going on for at least my lifetime. Again, it's more amplified now that's why it's as important as ever to be care what you say. Or more importantly how you say it.
I believe it’s flared back up because all of the media coverage on the expected opening box office numbers is offering it up as speculation as to why the numbers are so low as well as Disney’s very atypical media campaign.

Incidentslly, I haven’t seen Zegler outside of a very controlled environment.

As to her comments, the tight leash Disney has her on (relative to Gadot) speaks to their confidence in how much either actress can be counted on to put the best public spin on this film.

It does sound like you need someone to talk to. šŸ˜€

Just be warned you might have to listen to my wife complain about the destruction of the parks for two hours.

Some people don’t like to sit in the front row. It’s too overwhelming for them up there.
Yes that was my point. I just always assumed when they said the seat was unavailable that someone was already sitting there. I guess in this case they are just shutting down the front rows ?

People looked for comments to amplify from Zegler and Mackie for very specific reasons. This didn’t just happen.

History exists, convenient or not.
So because Mackie is captain america they went after him because of race? But race wasn't a thing when he was falcon and everyone loved him? I'm guessing that's what you mean by specific reasons. I don't think the vast majority of people were looking for anything with Mackie except making him Cap wasn't what people wanted. I'm sure for some race was the issue. There's intolerant people in the world, and there always will be. Yea people jumped the gun with not america comment. It was poorly worded. But that's died down fo the most part.
It actually didn’t go off the rails when she said it. No-one noticed or cared about her remarks concerning the original film until they were suddenly dredged up months later by certain individuals and outlets determined to stir the pot. They certainly succeeded.
That's true, and it happens often. Gunns jokes didn't spark outrage until 10yrs later when someone dragged it out to create a problem. This isn't just a Zegler thing as some like to make it seem. Gunn is a white male, and he wasn't exempt. And there's plenty of examples of the same thing happening. Months/years later things are brought up just to create a ruckus.

I didn't say its just the echo chamber here on this site. I said it was in its own echo chamber, the news keeps rehashing the story, and then someone bring it up here, and then we all discuss.

Its a discussion site, if people post things even if outlandish or something the "normies" aren't going to care about it gets discussed. I'm not sure why this insistence that we shouldn't discuss something a fellow poster posted, as that defeats the whole purpose of the forum. And even if some "white knighting" is happening, so what? I don't see anything wrong with defending something or someone especially when they (or it) can't defend themselves.

For that matter why is it when someone says they like something, the people that don't come jumping in and make claims like "no one likes it" or other such nonsense. Its just the way of the forums, like it or leave it.

Also basically you don't have to worry about it much longer as now that its releasing the discussion will naturally die off on its own after the movie does whatever its going to do, whether good or bad. Just like every other movie that has released over the last 5-6 years.

Another anecdotal potential problem:

On FB, I saw a post about the film by a site called Gayety. (It is what it sounds like.)

I expected better discourse than I’ve seen from the general public.

I was very disappointed to see nearly 100% of the apparently gay men posting saying the same ignorant, distorted things I’ve seen everywhere else.

You can bet I said my piece. Hypocrisy, yada yada.

I did not check every profile to see if they were just intruding on the page or actually gay.

That twisted narrative has permeated.

1. There wasn’t as much outrage back then because the ā€œmedia grifter who complains about everything being wokeā€ wasn’t really a thing back then. 2. Yes. People on the internet love to do that because controversy drives engagement.
