Just an incredible performance on this one. It’s almost 40 million ahead of Incredibles 2 now.

DM4 has to take some bite out of it (but who knows it seems invincible), but we’ll know by Sunday how that final trajectory is impacted.

On the flip side I feel like Canada day and July 4th are both optimally placed this year to extend the respective weekends.

I’m very curious about DM4, what’s the word? I feel like there’s zero hype or chat about it. Inside Out 2, you could sense the excitement for it.

It’s going to do very well. It has already been slowly releasing in quite a few international markets and setting records in them for the franchise.

Probably 100+ -ish million (but it’s a five day weekend) and 900-1.1 worldwide prospects.

'Despicable Me 4' is eyeing $110M-$120M at domestic box office over five-day Independence Day holiday and a running total of $200M worldwide by Sunday.

DM4 is poised to do very well as expected. While its start is meaningfully lower than Rise of Gru, that was also the best domestic take. These movies are always more carried by international markets anyways.

Can anyone help me parse out this comment?

DM4 is on a staggered release pattern abroad to take advantage of holiday play. Left to open are France, China, Germany, the UK and Italy. So far, the fourthquel is setting franchise records, and as of Sunday was seeing the biggest result for a Despicable Me/Minions film in like-for-like markets at the same point — well above DM, DM2, DM3, Minions and marginally above Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Rise of Gru has the worst International market performance of the lot (other than the original), so how can it be well ahead of the better performers and only marginally ahead of Rise of Gru? Meanwhile Rise of Gru has the stronger domestic, but this comment seems to be referring to International.

A Quiet Place was announced it is going to PVOD a month after it’s release… That is crazy… especially announcing it so early after having a good opening weekend and decent word of mouth for a Horror pic…. Sure to deter some to wait… seems Disney is one of the smartest with their theatrical windows

Also Deadpool seems to have settle down after projecting 200… it is now projected at 165… still a great number… but if that sticks for opening weekend… I think it is safe to say it won’t beat IO2 numbers

It never really should be expected to best a Pixar tentpole anyway…to be honest

Very impressive performance. Pixar's team ought to be proud of this one. This feels like a return to form. A true Pixarian mega hit like ones of old. Particularly impressive is the performance in Latin America and Asia. Mexican performance distinguished itself. Mexico 's Inside Out. By contrast, Europe showed a relative malaise. But in totality, a true victory for a storied studio!

Inside Out 2015 grossed ~1.146 Billion USD in May 2024 dollars. Inside Out 2 should surpass this number shortly. This is extremely encouraging.

This means Kingdom is sitting at around ~62% of its predecessor. Even accounting for the reduced production costs, this is disappointing. The future of the franchise will be determined on streaming...

This means Kingdom is sitting at around ~62% of its predecessor. Even accounting for the reduced production costs, this is disappointing. The future of the franchise will be determined on streaming...

If you are going to correct one part for inflation, then War had a production budget pushing 244 million (or perhaps 225 million, sources are mixed) in nominal dollars versus Kingdom's current 160.

War also generated a huge amount of receipts internationally, particularly from China, with its poor box office splits. Versus Kingdom has a much higher domestic split and very little Chinese contribution.

Most of the hard line difference between the two is China in totals, though. That market really collapsed for NA film.

So while not #1 at the box office anymore, it slipped to #2, Inside Out 2 has now passed $500M domestic. Making it only the 6th movie to do so in the post-pandemic era.

I checked and it's tracking to open in the $50 million range, which is decent but falls short of the original when inflation is taken into account.

It seems like a smart movie to release, as it's fun type of movie to see in a theater, the premise hasn't been beaten into the ground through other movies, and has the nostalgia factor.

I don't think it will hit the way other long-term sequels like Top Gun did, especially since the cast is new, but I'd expect it to do okay.

Makes me wonder if Beverly Hills Cop 4 should have gotten a theatrical release instead of straight to Netflix, as it was good.
