Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

That theater is kicking itself then…because one movie made money this weekend
Maybe/ maybe not…. Some still go see other movies…. The amount is not 0…I have seen movies at this theater that did single digits opening weekend that still had a decent enough crowd on a Sunday afternoon

I would argue except for very few event movies such as Avengers more than 2 screens is not really needed…. And frees up some space to show some movies other theaters may not be playing… which in that case this theater could reap the benefits

I loved Barbie 💕 and I think it’s becoming apparent Disney would have burnt Barbie to the ground. We all should be thankful Disney didn’t touch Barbie.
Whew!
Barbie literally stops the film to lecture the audience. Snow White doesn’t.

It’s almost like folks don’t engage with the content of the film but rather react based on a panoply of outside forces, notably a partisan echo chamber that tells them how they should interpret the movie. They feel a film lectured them because they were lectured to feel that way.

Are we going to continue to argue that this is still a Business?

I love “art”…much more than the next guy…but Disney is not into art…they’re into free money and audience massaging…

That is sad…but it’s not changing this year or any other. Blame “market forces”…and I certainly didn’t start the fire 🔥

Barbie is not as fantastic as it was painted…more the flavor of the summer…though to say it was not more well conceptualized than this…or any of the god awful bland live action remakes…is “an opinion”…for sure

I’d say if any of the LAs had some thought to it…it was Cruella…which explains stone being there

The rest? God…terrible…some worse than the backwards time and place some of the source cartoons came from…

I think this team needs a name…how about “The Film
School 5”?

It’s catchy 🎣

“a panoply of outside forces, notably a partisan echo chamber that tells them how they should interpret the movie”

I feel like you just opened up a Webster and pointed at the word perceptual bias and then started lecturing. Feels so, I don’t know? Impersonal.
Do you really speak that way?

In the history of chatdom…which unfortunately I’ve lived through the entirely of…the telltale sign that a poster lacks data to adequately support their points is indicated when they “go grammar”…

English lessons and/or attempting to “big word” around the conflict.

I had a boss from Poland who tried to do that with word of the day, ESL toilet paper.

Lesson learned, only speak good things about Disney movies on this board. If the movie isn’t good, Don’t say anything.
That’s so far from how any of us feel that I’m amazed you’d post it. @Casper Gutman has been scathing about many of Disney’s recent releases. I’m not as discerning as he is (self-professed Pixie Duster here!), but I too have voiced my share of criticism.

I love Disney, but I’m also honest enough to acknowledge when I don’t like something they’ve put out. All of us are.

Nice meeting you, I think I’ll wonder off now back to the theme park boards.
I’m new but this area feels very hostile.

But my fault. Lesson learned, only speak good things about Disney movies on this board. If the movie isn’t good, Don’t say anything.

I had to rant because the casting and story was horrible, won’t do it again.
…i like you…you got it as quickly as anyone

Even if their isn’t nearly enough legroom on your airlines 👍🏻

That's interesting from someone who googled "Barbie speech," saw the word contradictory and then came up with something so nonsensical it defies description.

THN is a much more economical use of our time and ours.

That's not at all true. Although I've seen numerous examples of people who misuse words.
