Saw this-

"Snow White doesn’t include one of the animated original’s most famous songs, “Someday My Prince Will Come,”"

SERIOUSLY?

Screw this film. That song is iconic and for them to omit it they deserve to lose every penny and more.

Some people on here have been going on about "You're not a 10 year old girl so this film isn't for you"

This was my great grandmother's favorite movie. This is the movie her and my great aunt watched on her deathbed. It meant everything to her, it meant everything to my great aunt, and being my great aunt was the one who Disneyfied me, it holds a very special place for me. So don't try to tell this 'not a 10 year old girl' how I can feel.

This bastardization deserves what it gets.

It’s okay for people who weren’t going to go anyway.
Its just a fun exercise. AI takes all the cr@p in from the internet and spits it back out.

I am not going to the theater either but that really depended on my family, they had no interest either.

On the rare occasion we go to the movies its because the family wants to see a given movie now and not wait for streaming.

Even when I really want to see a movie, I wait for streaming.

I do too. I used to love the theater experience but now there are so many people who have forgotten how to behave in public.

To state—calmly and in a manner befitting an adult—“I think her comments on the original movie are totally off base” before elaborating on why.
Thanks, Buford. I appreciate the reply.

I agree with that. I would probably only add that I don't think it's disproportionate if people choose not to watch the movie based on her comments.
Here are some direct quotations from this forum:

“She's never been put in her place or had anyone teach her respect.”

“People may be political about a snotty starlet who dissed the source material at company-sponsored media events.”

“What audiences and fans will not accept is outright contempt for the original. That contempt oozes out of everything that has emerged from her.”

“Yea, what part of you don’t crap in the same exact spots you eat and sleep doesn’t this twit understand…?!?!?!”

“Before Disney sends Rachel Zegler out on the talk show circuit this winter, they need to give her media relations lessons from Halle Bailey. If not just perform a personality transplant.”

“On the other hand, ‘It’s not 1937 anymore’ is a direct attack on the original film (and the people who love it).”

“Rachel Zegler said nothing new or bold or insightful. It's all so stale and predictable now. But somehow, and this is the magic of it all, she comes across to many as being this unlikable person. A real snot.”

“Because she's a snotty young person who just crapped on previous generations of artists who were far more accomplished than she is.”

These are just some of the posts (most of them by men in their 40s or older) that, to my mind at least, represent a rather extreme reaction to what Zegler said. No film is worth getting that worked up over.

ETA: And yes, I will acknowledge that I myself was perhaps guilty of a bit of hyperbole in my earlier post. Only a small number of posters here have said things that are truly unhinged. But many have reacted in a manner that I consider disproportionate and/or unseemly.
After reading those comments I get what you're saying. They also seem more focused on her as a person and less on her comments/criticisms. "I don't like what you said so I'm attacking your character" feels wrong to me too.

AI has it's uses but PLEASE do not use AI to make your movie choices!

You've inspired me to ask GPT (4o) what I should watch tonight. It sensibly asked me for a genre and/or a couple movies I've liked recently to help it pick something. I refused and just said, "Your pick."

The selection? Searchlight's 2022 release The Menu, which I actually love and have seen 3 or 4 times.

It knows me! It really knows me! </s>

God those opening paragraphs are horrific. Not that anyone reads NYT anymore, but the text is exactly why people aren't seeing the film and what is wrong with hollywood and its supporters.

"Snow White no longer trills about a prince, true, but heteronormativity still has its happy ending. Huzzah!"

Yeesh. This is why people are beyond caring and are at the point of apathy.
She's being sarcastic. She also says Snow White chants, "no justice, no peace" alongside Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. I took it as a joke about the film and discussion around it being a microcosm of the larger cultural issues currently at play.

I laughed. But I also think Manohla Dargis is a great film critic so I might be biased lol
