Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

My son says it was tax write off. It might be a rights issue like the original Fantastic Four movie from the 90s.

Yup, it got caught in the great purge with things like Batgirl.

Essentially WBD would have to pay theoretical tax money back now to pull it off a shelf, or even to sell it to another distributor. Presumably they feel that tax credit is worth more than what they could sell it for. Whatever product they had is essentially gone.

It’s the main event ride in Disneyworld Fantasy land. Anyone who has gone to fantasyland in DW knows the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
I'd be willing to bet the rides with Snow White are infinitely more appealing to modern day audiences than the original movie.

I hope it does well because that means they likely made a good movie, but nothing about a Snow White movie sounds appealing.

I don’t mean to diminish Snow, she’s a very solid mid tier princess. But I think Little Mermaid and Lion King are both considerably larger modern franchises. Along with Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Moana and certainly Frozen.

I agree with @Animaniac93-98 she exists in the similar level as Cinderella. Maybe even a tiny step below, but the secondary characters and villain of the movie both are above Cinderellas secondary cast. Not in terms of how the original movie holds up, but in terms of the princess status. I just think of when the company chooses to do a parade, I’d even expect Cindy slightly more than Snow.
At DisneyWorld, Cinderella castle illustrates your point, Ariel has an incredible attraction and so does the story of Snow White. Mine train is a highlight in fantasyland. The story of Snow White is alive and well… no reason it shouldn’t do 600 million. There should be a built in audience to see this movie.

Cinderella (2015) had a domestic gross of $201,151,353 and an international gross of $342,363,000, totaling $543,514,353 worldwide.

The Little Mermaid (2023) earned $298,172,056 domestically and $271,454,233 internationally, for a worldwide total of $569,626,289.

Mufasa (2024) grossed $251,200,000 in the United States and Canada and $462,000,000 in other territories, amounting to a global total of $713,200,000.

Agree, it’s the ride that keeps the story alive in the minds of Disney fans. Who doesn’t enjoy seeing the shadows of the Seven Dwarfs singing “Heigh-Ho” as we exit the mine?

If it’s a good story and people love the leads then this movie should hit 600 million.
Sound track is solid and music brings people back.

I thought there was some underlying reason it couldn't, but maybe it will find a way.
The underlying reason is that Zaslav is a terrible person. The film is a pure tax write-off despite a star cast and phenomenal test screenings.

This is a terrible weekend for anyone who wants more original high-quality mid-budget theatrical content from top directors rather then more sporadic big budget franchise fare.

Snow White was historically significant but in no way shape or form is ideal for modern audiences.
Thank you for explaining why changes/additions were needed in the remake.

Looking like a dead weekend, and Captain America can’t seem to pull better numbers out of it. Shame.

I looked at going to the movies by myself tonight, I know I know, it’s Saturday. I wouldn’t normally go on a Saturday when there will be more gross people there lol. There’s really nothing I would see except things I’ve already seen. Mufasa only played in the afternoon, it would be Captain America at night, slightly interested in Black Bag because I like Fassbender, but not enough to venture out. That’s a possibility if hubby and I decide to go together while he’s off over the next two days.

Vitamin Shoppe and the gym it is!

If it's not about Disney killing careers, why are we talking about it?
Oh…because as always there’s a high amount of twist on this

Since I made the comment…I’ll tell you exactly what it meant:

Disney has has some very high profile movies/franchises in the last Number of years where they cast younger female obscure actresses into the central roles…and when those movies become criticized…the actors seem to not have a lot of opportunities afterward.

It wasn’t about Rachel zeigler at all…but a movie that had been pounded to this level could hurt her. Not that she has done herself any favors with her comments at all.

Just a theorem…it wasn’t meant to be long winded lectured…but it’s par for the course. That’s the game we play

Except a theorem is a statement that has been proven true, which this has not.

What you have is a theory, and a conspiracy one at that. And the only proof you have is "they haven't booked another large franchise", which as discussed is not the end all be all of Hollywood talent, especially young talent.

Also if you didn't want a long discourse on this then maybe don't post it here and not expect to it be challenged.

Correct…thesis is the right word. I misspoke…just as you missed the off ramp to not continue to twist and shout at the wind

Or maybe just realize that you stating an exaggerated claim, even if a "thesis", isn't going to go unchallenged. Especially when its easily proven to be false.

And what you call shouting at the wind, maybe that wouldn't happen if you spoke plainly and say what you mean instead of in code using barbs.
