Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Dude…nobody on earth knows about or cares about thunderbolts…don’t waste your time making predictions that are sure not to come true
I don’t know, the trailers being more well-received than Brave New World, each trailer at or above 95%, makes me believe people care and are willing to see it if reviews are strong and in its favor.

I think if the lead up movies such as FF and X-Men are strong and they bring back Chris Evans and ScarJo then the next Avengers can be just as big as the ones that came before.
Well there won't be an X-Men movie before the next Avengers movie. And ScarJo isn't coming back at this point, though I won't say never.

After Phase 6 the rumors are they do a full reset and move to the Age of Mutant Saga (or whatever they call it) and lean into X-Men being the focus. So don't know how much the Avengers will play in that Saga, at least in the beginning. Until of course we have the big X-Men vs Avengers cross-over battle to end all battles.

My wife and I are not huge comic book fans… we have seen a lot of the movie just because we are film people and of the 3 marvel movies in 2025 we are most excited for The Thunderbolts…. I think the movie may surprise… Cap had a lot of negativity… I have heard mostly positive chatter around Thunderbolts

Also I don’t feel like most of the movies felt like homework…. Disney + series is there if you want to expand on the characters, but is not necessary to grasp the plot
What about Fantastic 4? You looking forward to that too?

Ahhh, I thought the X-Men was coming out before the Avengers. Nevermind then. But I’ll wager ScarJo will show up.

Not between now and 2026/2027 when Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars comes out respectively. :)

They will obviously want to start with the early solo Mutant stories, starting in 2028 I guess (or maybe even late 2027 after Secret Wars). So I wouldn't expect a full X-Men team up movie until 2030 at the earliest. I would hope we start to hear hints of that at Comic-Con in July this year, or at the latest D23 next year.

As for ScarJo, we'll have to wait and see. Things have been smoothed over between her camp and Disney, so anything is possible.

Dude, nobody knew or had a clue who the Guardians of the Galaxy were and those movies did pretty well. 🤪
That’s true…and that’s why it’s the real sleeper of the whole series

But that may be the biggest problem

If you have the time…watch the icons unearthed series…they’re excellent

Anyway…the MCU one paits a pretty good case that guardians gave them the false idea that anything would play…and that now can be looked at as a big mistake

Though I will say they could skip the intro movies all together and just hit the ground running post-Secret Wars and do a smashing of the universes. We already know that Monica Rambeau was stuck in the "Mutant" universe at the end of Marvels (or if you didn't see it now you do, sorry spoiler). So if the events of Secret Wars has that universe coming into Earth-616, then they can just skip the intro movies and start with X-Men similar to how they skipped Peter's intro story for Spider-Man.

So we'll see what happens post-Secret Wars with Mutants.

Maybe, or as I've been saying for awhile now, the general public comes in and out of these non-team up movies based on the characters that seem interesting to them. So the expectation that every movie has to do outrageous at the box office was falsely set when many ended up doing better than initially expected.

But hey this is a on-going debate that you and I have had many times. The MCU is not going anywhere anytime soon. So we'll be able to have this debate many more times in the future.

I would agree…but…

This right here. You’re speaking another language the public does not understand

And the public is DUMB…

Why does that matter? Because Disney is a conglomerate and just wants the easy money. That is why it matters.

It’s not an arthouse…we can act like it’s “cinema” and that it “isn’t going anywhere”…but then the reality comes in.

The same debates we always have in parks:
Results based business.

They don’t care about thematic cohesion…
Money

and they don’t care about “projects D+ wealth…maybe…eventually”
Money only…now

NYSE: DIS

They’re not nearly as stable as you think. It’s all about the now.

Which is how they bombed out Star Wars to a crater the size of Nagasaki…

And how they can do it with marvel too.
