Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

This is so far off the mark, but a totally expected statement. Like most of the back and forth on here. It all goes very predictably around here. Queue discussion topic, then when someone doesn't toe the line, it always boils down to bad fans and how they hate everything, are toxic, or they're lying to hide their "true" feelings. The why's of how Disney fractured the fan base have been discussed. And lots of good reasons and criticism have been argued. But in the end it's always angry fanboys! There's no chance maybe they took a wrong turn at Albuquerque? I'm just glad I've been able to enjoy all of this cinematic star wars since ep9. Oh wait... Nevermind.
I never said all fans were bad… I actually like the context you put it in as a fan… it was a good movie, but a bad Star Wars movie… I just forgot to add it to my post…that I get… I am just sick and tired of toxic Star Wars fans telling me my opinion is wrong… sometimes People forget all movies is subjective… that’s all I am going to say on that…as I’m taking Casper’s advice

Is Disney really down to 3 movies in all of 2024?

Deadpool 3, Inside Out 2, and Mufasa?

On the plus side they should be profitable next year with that lineup.
The one with a question mark above it in my mind is Mufasa. The budget for the lion king 2019 was something like $260mil. I don't see Mufasa being any less, or at least not by a significant amount. Add in that a lot of people saw it and A LOT of people hated it, it could easily become a, I was burned once, I'm waiting for D+. I couldn't stand the remake, I figured at least James Earl Jones is still Mufasa. But I think he was most disappointing. It just seemed like he was reading lines from the old script with zero emotions. So I can't see any real reason to think this will be better.

It was fine until the line I quoted. It comes off as the typical poster here who constantly blames the fans. At least that's how it read to me.

I think we're all sick of the other side saying our opinion is wrong, no matter the side.

A lot of Lion King purists did not like the Live action Lion King, but went to see it with high hopes and as a result, the movie made money, and that is why Disney kept Mufasa green lit, and you are right, this will cost a lot to make as usual.

I fear the Lion King purists will not go to see Mufasa and losing those folks will result in another money losing movie, meaning, it will have cost more to make than it brings in again.

The excuse that nobody is going to theaters cause they LOVE Disney+ means that they’re REALLY screwed…
Because Disney plus is a Model that will never make much money.

So you’re saying people will go to theaters if they delay release AND keep a subscription with increasing prices in the interim?

…well…that’s “creative”…for sure 😎

I was happy to subscribe for the combination of original series and Disney library.

I never had the expectation it would replace the need to purchase Disney movies.

Disney may have cannibalized one revenue stream to support D+ so the question is if they can reverse course.

I don’t buy the argument that D+ won’t be profitable. Surely there’s a reason every studio is big into subscription services.

I agree, as I'm one of them. The funny thing is, if they don't make the Lion king remake. And instead made Mufasa, I might actually look forward to it. Just like all the remakes, they've already made better versions. So while it's still not the most creative thing to do. Making live action sequels or prequels or spinoffs of your animated movies. It sure is better than rehashing what you've already done.

Your defensiveness about and attempts to gatekeep fandom are tiresome. Everyone here is a fan. You do not speak for all fans. There is a huge problem with toxicity in fandom. You are not responsible for this toxicity if you do not take part.

I, for one, will be skipping Mufassa. The Lion King Remake was one of the worst moviegoing experiences of my life.

Here’s one possible reason:

And how am I gatekeeping fandom? I'm not the one telling people the prequels stink and are better than the sequels. Then saying it's best to not engage.

As you don't speak for the fans. I haven't been toxic to anyone, and if questioning Disney and their track record is what you consider toxic, or defending when statements are lumping in all fans that don't see your view as bad. Than a look in the mirror might be in order. This all started because of someone discussing how star wars could help and you and another chimed in. Like you said, if you don't want negativity, don't spread it yourself.

My post explicitly said you were NOT toxic. My earlier post simply stated that you don't speak for all fans. Throughout this thread you have been absurdly defensive, often manufacturing insults where they don't exist. Please respond to what posters actually post.

I apologize I took it as I was toxic, from the way it was worded that's how it sounded. But how was I gatekeeping and what insults did I manufacture? As you like to point out with your (wink wink) comments about what people say. It works the other way. The last Jedi was being talked about and I was one who said I wasn't a fan. But then it was fans couldn't handle it. I defended that wasn't the case. That's not gatekeeping. It's not making up an insult that wasn't there. It was a sweeping statement lumping in all of us. That poster and I cleared it up. I said why I thought, gave my reason, didn't attack or insult him. But then you answer with I'm a gatekeeper?
