News Disney and Fox come to terms -- announcement soon; huge IP acquisition

I find it kinda weird that the official press release calls out Avatar, X-Men, Deadpool, and even Grand Budapest Hotel, but doesn't make any mention at all about finally acquiring rights to the original Star Wars trilogy. I'd think that would be a major coup they'd want to announce.

Yes
I'm assuming the same rules apply to WDW as they did when they bought Marvel that we won't see any IP that exists at Universal Orlando in FL?

This isn't a Disney vs. Uni thing for me but it just felt like the Fox deal was better suited for Comcast and what they already offer. But this is a win for Disney.

Not on here, but I'm already seeing confusion on the ABC/FOX network things. People, Fox Broadcasting Network is NOT part of this deal.

And I don't see anything changing with Marvel in Universal or The Simpsons. This deal is for a lot of things. Parks are likely furthest from their minds.

That acquisition is more wonky and won't read well in a simple press release considering the average fan already thinks Disney owns all of Star Wars. Watch for Lucasfilm to issue something in regards to a re-release on BluRay or theatres eventually of the original cuts.

I wonder if the properties will stay at Universal, much like some of the Superheros now, and Disney get a cut of the tickets and merchandising? If so, this would be a huge win for Disney...of course, it's weird to think of all these as now Disney properties...

From what was said...the Marvel rights were not transferable. So, if Comcast made the purchase, the Marvel rights would still revert back to Marvel Studios.

That's an excellent point. With Disney already acting like they own Star Wars (which they sorta do), announcing that they now own all of Star Wars would be confusing. I'm eager for that exact Lucasfilm announcement :)

Disney already owned ALL the Marvel properties. Just not ALL the film distribution/production rights.

Disney owns LucasFilms. LucasFilms owns Episodes I-III, V-IX. Disney owns Fox Films. Fox owns Episode IV and distribution rights to Episodes I - VI. Disney now OWNS. IT. ALL.

But in the digital/post home video era...it doesn't mean nearly as much as it once did...especially if they continue to mass produce bad, disjointed Star Wars movies
