Yeah, the Roberts would have to completely certifiably insane to do anything to be in breach of that contract. And the price for Disney would probably deplete their assets to get Marvel in WDW.

Man, Iger is a stiff interview....

Eisner called him a unimaginative empty suit...

It's not like anything changed except Eisner crossed Roy and completely underestimated him...

...now he's making cartoons on YouTube

He probably has private shuttle service from quantus to the lower east side heliport then...

You mean the Wall Street journal that has actively supported/counciled to exploit your fellow man for economic gain for 50 years?

...what a guy...

Yes, that periodical. My brother learned all he thinks he knows about finance, economics, markets, etc., from reading WSJ. When I asked him a question about the yield curve, he was

Bob hedged on the running for POTUS and James Murdoch's role in the company questions.

Murdoch's new company will become New Fox.

Well This Gotta be interesting within the Fox Ip’s Going into Disney Theme parks all over the world,
The million Dollar Question is Will the Fox IP be coming to Orlando and Tokyo theme parks(China, Paris, Anaheim, HK AS WELL), ?

Since both Coasts can’t use the Marvel Brand. and Avatar is in AK already. What will happen to the Attractions In Universal Studios under the Fox Umbrella? (Simpsons, The walking dead etc...)

According to Iger, it's ALL about content, and some global reach. Crap, there a $2.5B penalty fee if Disney can't get this through DOJ.....

They already would know if it's gonna be approved.

Of all the Stupid mergers....this one is the low end of antitrust.

Now if the fox network was in there? Then maybe you got something. There's already enough movie studios to not raise a flag and I don't think anyone gives a rat's about who actually makes movies...why would you?

This just in...bruce Willis and ed O'Neil are being declared disney legends at a small ceremony this afternoon in dopeys courtyard on the Burbank lot

You missed some stuff back upthread...mainly that fox doesn't have any IP that would be available or fit disney parks - more or less.

This is all about tv to try and sell the streaming network that's hurriedly being thrown together to backstop espn...

For the Murdochs...this is about taking over disney from within.

It's funny that you bring that up at all because I was just thinking that Disney making some sort of deal with Universal doesn't seem so impossible anymore. Don't get me wrong, it's still a bit pie in the sky, but now that they've made a shared agreement with Sony to get Spider-Man in the MCU AND the X-Men rights back wholesale, the ironclad Universal theme park is the last Marvel domino to fall. Sure, all three of these are vastly different deals, but I'll just say this. If you told me earlier this year even that Fox's Marvel properties would be back at Marvel by December, I would've laughed hysterically in your face.

I'm sure there's a price Comcast would accept to allow those Marvel characters under that contract to have a limited appearance at WDW, but I'm not sure Disney would pay it.

Not sure about that Murdochs statement. Watched Iger's interview on CNBC. While Rupert is a somewhat dishonest businessman (okay, bloody ruthless), this sounds more like Rupert sees how things are going, wanted to go in a different direction and is getting $52.4B (well, whatever his % of those Fox properties is). And Disney, i.e. Iger, is running the show.

But iger is as good as gone and they know it...even if he doesn't want to go...

He is following the SAME path as Eisner...extensions upon extensions and bloating the company...

Roy pretty easily oustered him with a proxy battle that wasn't that hard to ramp up. Murdochs have 25% of the stock to bank now already...it wouldn't be that hard to manipulate.

All they need is the trump recession and a bully pulpit. The only thing that will prevent that from happening may be government regime change in 3 years...

Iger isn't following the Axum of "keep your enemies closer" it seems...

Couple predictions:
  1. NATO, the movie theater owners’ interest group, not the military alliance, will go to war against Disney/Fox. They will funnel millions to lobby congress and support lawsuits to kill this deal.
  2. EU kills the deal on account of over consolidation.
  3. Despite selling to TWDC, UK Govt doesn’t let them buy out the remaining percentage of BSkyB they don’t already own.
Now some wilder ones:
  1. The sexual assault issue at the Walt Disney Company becomes so explosive, implicating Iger and others as accomplices, that he is forced to step down.
  2. DIS shareholders vote down the deal once it has been more carefully scrutinized.
  3. DoJ blocks AT&T/TW and makes it clear it will not allow any further consolidation.
  4. AT&T/TW is approved and someone with deeper pockets than Bob offers the Murdochs a better deal.

You're assuming that disney isn't flaming marvel out/beating it into the ground...which by most appearances they are

Don't forget, Fox most likely won't be allowed to buy the remainder of sky. Fox's proposed deal to buy the remainder of Sky is being already investigated by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which is due to publish provisional findings in January.

I'd rather see actual NATO go to war on disney...maybe we could be rid of Princess Leia once and for all:devilish:

I didn't think the contract Universal signed with Marvel Studios prohibited Marvel characters in DLR. If I remember from reading it, it references other parks east of the Mississippi.

That remark Iger made about launching their streaming service "launch big and launch hot"? Now we know what he was talking about....

More importantly, since Comcast was also looking at Fox, what will they go after now? According to CNBC, one reason Murdoch went with Disney was because of Comcast's anti-trust issues.

This ain't done until DOJ signs off....

DL can use the characters, but they cannot use the name "Marvel".

The 25% of Disney stock is ALL Fox stockholders. Murdoch's piece will be much smaller, based on their holding in Fox.

Correct about Disneyland and marvel...they have announced a marvel
Land at DCA...have they not?

And Comcast is in a weaker position to pass through Antitrust because of cable and ISP...that is a clear tactical advantage for disney...who wants NO part of delivery due to employee and infrastructure costs.

Well considering the X-Men are now truly of worth to them AND the Simpsons are now involved, you could say that a potential deal with Universal could become somewhat more valuable.
