Disney After Hours Event

I find this EXTREMELY hard to believe. I am a Met season ticket holder, and I have lived in the NYC area my whole life and gone to games at every local stadium. I have never seen $12 water.

Dude - neither have I. It was the last season of the colisseum being open and I was FLABBERGASTED they had the gaul to charge that. And as a Rangers fan I was particularly offended.

I have no problem with those kinds of arguments. I just don't like the constant suggestions that anyone willing to pay for such an event is some sort of fool.

But why get upset with people you don't know? Who cares what someone on the internetz said? I am sure my family and me have spent money on things others would deem foolish, but honestly there is a handful of people in my life whose opinions I value and I promise you it is nobody here.

And I think that would be a mistake. Anything they gain from hard ticketed events and/or labor savings will be offset by guests moving off property. Protecting "the bubble" of a captive on-property guest used to be a core tenet of their marketing strategy and I think it would be a huge mistake to move away from that, particularly with Universal stepping up their game.

HOWEVER, I don't think it's worth getting in a tizzy over something you've heard they're considering doing until they actually do it (or at least announce that they're doing it). Introducing these ticketed events have not, as of yet, had an impact on EMH; therefore I think it's a mistake to evaluate them as if they have.

Me? Tizzy? Nah.

Just saying what I can about what I've been told by people who would know.

@marni1971, you're probably no fun at parties too. :p

I paid $12 for a bottle of water at an Islanders game last year. One bottle of water. And they don't even let you keep the cap (apparently, people throw them).

Well come on...have you seen the product we've put on the ice in the last 20 years (this latest group excluded)??? throwing caps is the least we would do, I'm surprised they didn't make us drink the whole bottle right at the concession stand. lol

In light of the current spin this thread is taking, that was freaking funny! LOL

Why read trip reports from people you don't know? Why ask for dining advice from people you don't know? If one doesn't care about what people on the internet think, why be here at all?

Not getting upset, just pointing out that many comments are petty and hypocritical.

That's a little different. Seeking out opinions on dining is different than getting upset because someone made snarky and snide remarks about spending habits. I can't get upset if someone thinks I am a "rube" for going to WDW, their opinion is irrelevant to me. I don't let these people take up space in my brain.

Well apparently there weren't many of "those" people, so who are we really offending?

It's not about offending people, it's about the holier-than-thou attitude of people.

It would be like me thinking back at my last two-week stay at WDW, looking at the container of pins buried on one of my shelves, glancing at some overpriced popcorn container or drink cup I dragged home, wondering where I put that souvenir t-shirt I never wore once, etc. all while acting superior to some "sucker" who paid $150 for the after hours event.

Why would they market it as a huge success if it's not one? If it fails, they'll stop offering it. Simple as they. They have no reason to lie and claim something is successful if it's not.
Considering they already labeled it as "sold out" is claiming something it's not. Selling so poorly, that you have to offer free tickets at 3pm the day before just to have more guests than CMs is far from "sold out". Yet, that's what they claimed.

Was the first night a failure? We don't know. If all the free tickets they handed out to the bloggers gets them enough positive publicity to actually sell 1000+ tickets on these nights, then last night was a success. But to claim it a success already by saying sold out it laughable at best. Right now, it's a failure for Disney- we'll see if it's a success.

As for those that paid $150/person- If their expectation was walk-on rides, and an empty park- than Disney absolutely hit that expectation- no complaints there. I just think, even with the Disney zombies/zealots, that there aren't enough takers to pay such an outrageous amount. We've finally reached supply/demand. But Disney is trying to milk where they can- this one just likely isn't the correct tit.

I snapped this pic at a recent Washington Nationals game. How about $23.50 for a burger, fries, and soda?

The real issue I have with this event is it's yet another instance of WDW charging premium prices for what could be argued is a non-premium product. I suppose some people find the idea of no lines at rides worth $150, but I'm not one of them.

Paying for this event isn't like paying for First class on a airplane. It's more like paying extra to board before everyone else (which some people do). It's still an Economy class seat; you're just paying more to get to it faster.

We've been to Disney more times than I care to count (and we are from the Midwest, non-DVC). I am called a rube, sucker, etc by friends all the time. It doesn't mean jack to me. I am pretty positive my friends are correct sometimes. I would NEVER pay extra for something like this because I am not THAT much of a "sucker". ;)

I feel your pain. Lifelong Blues fan here - we play sooooooo good every regular season and then lose our freaking minds in the playoffs (typically very early). *sigh*

hey, we're both up 1-0 so lets knock on some wood and never speak of it again! Deal?

~ok..sorry for the hijack...back to your regularly scheduled complaining
