Dinosaur VS Jurassic Park Ride

For the record yes a carnisorus (spelling) is real.
This is true..However..Disney did exaggerate the actual height of the carnataurous it's not the size of a T-rex. It's actually 5 feet tall.

And Since were on the topic of One of the Best dark rides ever. I have to say it's just better than JP...Considering I've never been to and rode JP at any of the Universal's..sorry.

I've also found a great video that has some great audio from the ride. To get the full effect turn your speakers up!

I enjoy both for different reasons. The Dinos at JP have seen better days, thats for sure.

I also don't think they should touch the volume at Dinosaur at all.

btw .. only once of all my 5 rides on a JP attraction (all versions) the explorer fell down .. right before the ascent in to the trex room.. is it so hard to keep that effect workin ?

There is no Explorer in the IOA version, only the California one (and maybe Osaka?)

To be honest, the only part of JP I like is the starting segment outside. I thought the gate and the movie-esque narration were the best part. Once you get inside the animatronics (Except the T_Rex) all seem cheesy and underdone. I have always said that Dinosaur ranks in my Top 5 attractions of all time and it probably always will. Anyone else duck as low as humanly possible when you hear, "BRACE YOURSELVES!!! THIS IS IT!!!" ? I see the flash then duck and close my eyes. Leaves an eerie afterimage of the Carno in my field of vision, kind of like a bright camera flash.

Well, up until recently, the after-image of the Carno would get stuck in my vision without having to do all that... :)

But on my recent trips (June and Decmeber), I noticed that there's a new light in that scene that I don't remember from before. It's a bright red light (with either a pattern in the light, or it's shining through some branches) up and to your right shining roughly across the ride path.
The problem is that it stays on during that entire scene. It doesn't flash like the other effect lighting. It provides too much light to the scene, and makes the Carno visible earlier than before and lets you see your approach and start down into the star tunnel.
Before, you didn't really see the Carno until the bright white flash, which was enough to keep him burned in your vision and everything else dark as you "fell" into the star tunnel. And as your vision cleared, you saw the time tunnel zooming at you and *boom*, you "landed" in it.

I'm wondering if this is a new light that was added for some reason, or if a control circuit is broken and it's stuck in the on position... Either way, it takes away from the scene. Oh, and bring back the laser portals! (At least the smoke in the first time tunnel is working)

Dinosaur has always come off as kind of lame to me:shrug:

The darkness seems very obviously intended to hide the lack of a set. The scene with the flying dinosaur above you not moving at all seems kind of weird. And the narration has always seemed like a cheesy, third-rate saturday morning cartoon to me...but yeah, i guess it's kind of fun either way. And if you are 8 years old(or as brave as an 8 year old) it's pretty thrilling.:snore:

It`s broke. Has been for years. Sad, I know. It needs to be partially animated or removed I agree, though last year I felt the lighting and the EMV movement did lend a crude sense of animation to it.

Something else that's been broken for a while are the jumping Compys. They're mounted on thin wire arms and used to "jump" across the ride path in front of you as they were lit with shafts of blacklight. Now, they're stationary and the blacklights just blink on and off.

As for the darkness, just about every indoor attraction that depicts the outdoors is set at night for the simple reason that it's next to impossible to realistically depict the outdoors during daylight. Doing the outdoors at night inside a building is MUCH easier. (Look at Mexico, Pirates, Peter Pan, Spiderman at IOA...)

i think that the theming in JP is a hell of alot better, i think it gives the film justice. but that might only be me. i love that ride. dinosaurs are like more realistic but pourly done. and the dinosaurs in ctx are a bit animated but better portrayed. not all flappy like the trex at the end of JP who sits in the off position till a metre in front of him/her

I don't see how you can compare the two rides, unless the only thing you're looking at is that they both involve dinosaurs. The stories are very different (and, yes, Jurassic does have a story) and the rides are different. I love both.

My son loves to stand at the viewing section of Jurassic's drop and to get drenched when the boats come down. And the restaurant next to the drop, Thunder Falls Terrace, has some darn fine food. :slurp:

Then again, I had just about the best laugh of my life on Dinosaur. Well, after Dinosaur when I saw the ride photo and the look on my friend's face when she saw the carno. That photo sits on my desk and work and always gives me a chuckle.

You are correct that it is an exaggeration, but it's more than twice the size you are proposing:

Carnotaurus was a medium-sized theropod, about 9.0 m (30 ft) in length, 3.5 m (10 ft 7 in) tall at the hips, and weighing about 1,600 kg (1.76 tons). The most distinctive features of Carnotaurus are the two thick horns above the eyes, and the extremely reduced forelimbs with four fingers.[2] It had a small skull, a thick chest, and a thin tail. The eyes of the Carnotaurus faced forward, which is unusual in a dinosaur, and may indicate binocular vision and depth perception.

A single nearly complete skeleton has been described including impressions of skin along almost the entire right side, that show Carnotaurus lacked feathers, unlike the more advanced coelurosaurian theropods (see also feathered dinosaurs). Instead, the skin is lined with rows of bumps, that become larger toward the spine.

PS, as most have said, simply no comparison between Dinosaur and JP, Dinosaur has so much more!

Here's my question about JPRA...

What in the WORLD is the T-Rex doing flopping around through a tall concrete building? Like, storyline-wise, how did he get up there? lol That part never made sense to me.

Actually, it is not broken. It still works. But it was turned off for safety concerns. It could be fixed easily, but I guess they don't want to spend the time or money. Same with the laser effect on the time portals and the Iguanadon. It still works fine, they just have them turned off.

The compy's also have been turned off due to safety concerns. I don't think they will ever return. It costs too money to repair. Eventually, they will put something else in their place. Or just use another mechanism to do the same effect.
