Why the clearing of the canals there? It just seems like a lot of work for maybe 3-4 rows of additional parking.

That was all wetlands so I assume they are doing that to compress the soil.

The permits do show the canals being moved so I guess they want the space for parking.

Photo update as of Saturday, May 6. The canal that divides the parking lot has largely been drained and most of the trees have been cut down. The canal areas have been enclosed by fences, as seen in these ground level views.

Those area have only served as mosquito nurseries until now. Plus they were never nicely landscaped. Which I imagine would have been even more evident from the rumored gondolas. Yes, a parking lot has more visual interest than those drainage ditches did.

The only reason I say good riddance is because when I tried to cut through the lot I hated having to walk to the tram lane, but I'm just selfish.

So, Im a bit out of the loop, so I apologize for this potentially stupid question. How are they going to link Star Tours to the news Star Wars land? Muppets seems to be right in the middle of them. That seems like a theming mismatch.

Basically... they aren't going to link it or attempt to link it. Good sources have stated that it will remain for a short while and then be re-imagined into something else not Star Wars.
