I've always found the concept of theme park insiders pretty humorous. Most of the information is out there if you look hard enough, and most of the people who think they're insiders are little more than super fans who happen to parlay their fandom into a few relationships with people that work in our industry. WDI and Universal Creative don't actively try to shroud the projects that are in the pipeline, which is why everyone know exactly what type of ride/theme/timeline is being used on a new attraction well before it's announced to the public. The politics that people like Spirit likes to disseminate are mostly the tabloid complaints of middle managers being spun into something mystical and foreboding. It's a healthy mix of taking the facts that are out there, mixing them with "stuff you hear" when someone with an ego wants to make a super fans day, and the rest is just fabricated to fit the narrative. Remember to top it all of with a healthy dose of "things are changing".

At least Tom @ seems to grasp most of this. He deals in the same information and probably talks to the same people as everyone else. The difference is that he's prone to just blurting it all out and then others take offense when they lose their scoop/power. He's about as right as anyone else in the rumor dept though- which is to say- not usually very accurate I'm afraid.

Think of it more like a large version of this but with proper restraints:
b9461dc5bdde8ff0984478717105faf0

With some upgrades to make it feel like you're on an animal. All attached to a large arm/platform thingie that slides you out to the screen similar to Soarin. I know that all seems corny, but when you're off the ground like Soarin and that little thing you're straddling is moving around- you're going to need a new change of underwear if they decide to really make use of the ride system's capabilities.

I really just hope they've gotten the projectors sorted out. I'd hate to see all of this tech wasted on substandard projectors because Cristie hasn't released an 8k projector yet. 99.99% of riders probably won't be able to tell the difference though. Still, 16k of total image is going to be mindblowing if/when they can get it figured out.

I never interpreted the released picture to be any more then this.

So are you basing you assement on this article:

or do you have access to information that hasn't been released to the public?

Other have confirmed that even though this may have a been a prototype you will still be sitting on it like a horse. The Tron coaster in Shanghai has a similar type of seating. I have no concerns about actual safety, although it may give you the sensation that you are not as secure as you really are.
Thank you so much @danlb_2000! Wow, I thought this was supposed to be like Soarin in 3D. But, this ride sounds really thrilling. Now, I don't know what to expect.

If the cars are like Tron, then hopefully it's only one person per Banshee. If not then Disney should only pair groups together like on Astro Orbitor and singles alone. But then again, I just don't see how this could be two rider.

Also, the height requirement for Tron is 48 inches, so I am very interested to see what the height requirement will be, too. Can't wait!!!

Okay. I'm not going to argue the definition or credentials of "insider" - I would like to still ask for you to clarify your stance on the ride system "not being anything like" or similar to what the forum is deciphering. Sure this photo could be from 2015 or from Tom's garage. But, as an independent and neutral party in this, there is evidence proving in one direction while you push in the opposite. What gives bro?

It will be like Soarin in that it's multiple seats in front of a large screen, but it sounds like it's going to have more physical motion then the Soarin and more effects. It's sounds like it is going to be one rider per, but I wouldn't have a problem with two if they were spaced apart enough, and it would help increase the capacity.

I wouldn't try to judge height requirement by Tron. Even though the seating position is similar it's two totally different ride system which will have a big impact on height requirements.

@rushtest4echo seems to be in sync with our noted insiders. What do you think rt4e is saying that goes against them?

At this point, there are plenty of insiders who are seeing the ride. I believe someone said that groups of CMs are being invited to see the ride. So, just like there are plenty of CM 'insiders' who can tell us about RoL because they saw the previews, there will be more and more 'insiders' to tell us whether a grainy photo is of the ride as it is now, or some really old prototype.

And speaking of that photo, it shows two truncated Banshees with riders in front of a projection. Now, imagine taking a photo of just two people on Soarin' while the ride is in progress and how difficult that would be. That is why that photo is not likely the current ride in progress.

Hey MisterPenguin, I have no idea what he's saying to be honest. I guess I'm just a little lost on his comments of "sorry to disappoint" and "it will look nothing like this". I'll just put him on ignore and enjoy the rest of the thread and everyone else's contributions.

Wow, folks are getting bent out of shape from some really tame comments from @rushtest4echo

Looks like the picture that was shared is a 'photo op' version of the ride vehicle based on combining all of the comments. If folks were restrained 'Tron-like' then the picture can't be accurate...and it looks like in that picture there are wings, which couldn't be present in side-by-side soarin style rows, hence the bull riding picture shared later. So 'Not at all' is likely relative to the detail of the banshee ride vehicle and restraint system.

And spirit himself, has admitted that some of his sources are middle management with axes to grind...or are folks forgetting about all of the heavy hints that George K was a source before his last promotion and he had an axe to grind with his former leaders.

For me, these boards are about piecing info together and hashing out the details and concepts...All of the rest is wasted effort name calling and belittling folks who add to pieces to the puzzle.

Oh wow!!! Thank you dan for all of these details. This sounds so awesome. My only issue is no one will want to ride on the back. I wouldn't. Maybe, if they can somehow elevate the back part of the seat but that doesn't sound practical. I don't know. I still can't believe we are so close to Pandora opening.

Anyway, I hope we get more info on this and the boat ride too -- leading up to Memorial Day.

That's what's been speculated. Who knows though.

Sigh... so much drama on the forum today. Guys are just as dramatic as girls, if not more. LOL.

I really appreciate your contributions here for the ride. But, I don't think it was a very nice gesture for to demand the picture be taken down. There is no reason why we can't be cordial to one another.

And, I can't imagine anyone here doing something like that. I can understand a request to a add a link credit though.

I haven't seen Mr. Spirit here for a long time, so it's odd that you would bring him up out of context. You don't have to resort to that kind of thing. There are many posters here who appreciate your contributions at face value.

@danlb_2000 is so nice and helpful. I would be like so lost without him. He does a great job of making sure that the information presented here is accurate. He has to ask the tough questions. Otherwise, this forum would be a mess. So, don't take it personal.

That's what's been speculated. Who knows though.
Hi @David2319! Thanks. Oh well, I really have to give Disney credit for keeping this hush hush for so long. LOL.

Does anyone know if there will be major distortion of the ride if viewed on the sides like in Soarin?
The distortion should be lessened due to the configuration of the seats. Soaring' has all of the benches perpendicular to the centerline of the screen. Flight of Passage has only two benches and they are angled towards the center of the screen.
