December reservations?

I thought that I could plan a trip for this coming December sometime in the first 2 weeks, but Disney reservations is telling me that every resort except some of the all stars and Saratoga Spring are booked through the month. Is this unusual? Do they possibly have rooms that are just blocked until a later date? I tried calling on 2 different days and got the same type of response. I need 2 rooms as well, could this be throwing the request off? I'm really hoping for a miracle.

Well last weds I booked online 2 days Dec 18 and 19 for Pop? We used our AP for the discount room/Dinning Plan:shrug:...sounds like good thing we didn't wait. However we had already scheduled 4 days at OKW thru DVC don't know if that could have made a diffrence, but don't know how since they are seperate ressies:wave:

I call Disney reservations on Saturday to try and use one of the discounts that were mention in another thread for my upcoming December trip and the CM that I spoke with said they have booked way more trip in the 1st 2 weeks in December then what they had forcasted.... Also keep in mind that during the 1st 2 weeks of Dec. the Christmas day parade is taped, Pop Warner football and cheerleaders championships are taking place and mousefest is going on. I would keep trying back on a regular basis. I just checked and looks like there are rooms available at Corondo Springs.

Good Luck!

We just booked a trip for December on Saturday (12/2-12/7) staying at POR. I didn't realize that all those other events were taking place at that time; funny, considering I went the same time last year. I wish going later in the month was cool with my mom, but she likes to have the time to get ready for Christmas... which means we miss out on the discount too. *sigh*

I'd keep checking back if I were you... I'm not sure if the lack of availability is because you want two rooms (adjacent, adjoining, or otherwise), because they'll book you anyway and just make a note of your preference. Good luck!

We got the discount offer for December 1-8. I had to specifically request the offer with the three-letter code, but we had to change our resort. It still saved us a good chunk of change though.

I go ever year the 3rd week in December. I book right after my trip each year for the following year -- a lot of the same people stay in the same resorts year after year after year for the holiday season. I wouldn't at all be surprised the resorts are pretty much full during the holidays. As strange as it seems, it's already 4 months to the holidays.

Thanks for the response! I'm just going to keep calling, as a backup I was able to book the Dolphin using the nurse/teacher discount for 12/12-12/18. I've stayed there before and enjoyed it, but I'm really hoping for WL/AKL/POR. We're taking my 2 1/2 son for the first time and we'd like him to get the full immersion (okay, maybe it's more for us).

Wow! The Samantha Brown show (the older one) said that was the best time to travel because of crowds. That has certainly changed.

Why don't you book what is available now and then keep checking back to switch to your preferred resort when (if) it becomes available? Bird in the hand.

All of December (not just the weeks around Christmas) has become VERY popular at WDW. Some of that has to do with Mouse Fest and Pop Warner. Others are visiting to see the great decorations and the Osborne Lights. :xmas:We were there early last December and the resorts were really booked solid, but the parks were not bad at all, with the exception of huge crowds at MGM to see the Osborne Lights. It is tough to find a really slow time at WDW these days.

The crowds ARE lighter, but the difference between peak times and the winter is not as great as it used to be. Between the late 90's and '02-03, the time after Thanksgiving and the first couple of weeks of December were very empty except for the Pop W crowd. I can remember even planes going down there being half empty. The last couple of years during this time, as far as I'm concerned, are crazy compared to what it used to be like.

Last December, for example, in talking with a manager at the Poly, they told me that the hotel was at 100% occupancy from October thru April (at that point in time). The worry was that it made shuffling guests around if any problems occurred in the rooms. It was a bummer as a CM during check-in offered us a free upgrade to concierge MK-view but then couldn't fit us in for the length of stay because of room demand.

snow white - I hate to really sound like the evil queen here but we booked two rooms on 8/7/8 and only got our second choice. it was something like 130 or so days before our check in date yet we still had trouble with dinner reservations. several we couldn't get including the california grill (one of our favorites) were totally booked. we ended up with a lot of 8-9pm reservations and one character event where our party of five is split into two. we were also told the dinner package with epcot's candlelight processional was sold out in less than 24 hours of availability. we took our 3rd or 4th choice for dinner spot for christmas dinner. so i'd take the first choice of what you can get regarding hotel... but do it over the phone to see what they can do that way rather than online and upgrade later if you can. have you thought about one of the vacation club rooms that sleep 8? i'm calling back re reservations from time to time and we're considering trying to change some if needed. i know how you feel... we've booked in as little as a few days at other times of year including over the 4th of july and always got what we wanted (with the exception of cindy's castle for dinner reservations). good luck.

Thanks Evil Queen, we went ahead and booked the Dolphin for 12/12-12/18, got the nurse rate for both rooms, but I'm going to keep trying for one of our other favorites. Now for those ADRs...:drevil:

I know its for different dates from when I'm planning on going this year but do you mind me asking what organization you got your nursing discount through or where you heard about it through? I hadn't heard of one and... I'll give you one guess what I do for a living lol. :)

Sorry to answer so late Evil Queen, you know how 12 hour shifts go! The website for the Swan/Dolphin usually mentions the discount, if not call the reservation line and ask. We're paying the same as we would for a moderate per night (big savings when you look at the rack rates). Good luck!
