December Disney Trip Question???

I need help, guys! I booked my next Disney adventure for the first week of December (3-11) 2010! I can't wait!
Then, all of a sudden out of the blue, I'm told that the national cheerleading competition is that week! :brick:What the?
I need advice of people who have been to WDW during this event. Are the crowds unbearable during the day? What about at night? I don't want to change my weeks, but I will if I have to.
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks.

I've been at the parks when similar competitions were going on, though not this particular one. I believe the actual competitions are held at Wide World of Sports, so their influence on the park will primarily be after the competitions or when the team is finished. There will be a noticeable number of young cheerleaders around, but the crowds won't be nearly as bad as during the busy times of the year.

I have been there that exact week, and thought the crowds were great! I actually didn't even notice the cheerleaders. Most of the problems I've read about were from people staying at the same resort as them. I wasn't at the AS resorts, so if you avoid those you will probably be fine. :)

It's both the Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading championships. We usually go and overlap with them, and haven't had much trouble. Occasionaly you will find a larger group of them (and sometimes it get's annoying while they do their cheers while waiting in line), but the lines are generally pretty good, it's hit or miss. We will be down there this year the same time the 3rd thru the 12th of December. Can't wait as we had to take a year off.

Crowd wise they don't make much of a difference. As others have said they can be annoying at times as they can be really loud in lines and start randomly doing cheers and stuff... but other than that they shouldn't effect crowd levels much.

One thing to be aware of is that normally the first weekend in December is the Christmas Parade taping... which can result in LARGE crowds in Magic Kingdom and it can make getting around Main Street and Frontierland a nightmare; however, that is only one or two days and only Magic Kingdom... it is just something to be aware of and something to plan around when deciding which days to go to which parks. The exact dates are normally announced well in advance so you should get some prior warning :)

Thanks! Good info about the Christmas parade. I'll probably call WDW and see what days they are doing the parade and plan to go to another park.

I personally thought the beginning of December was rather busy in the parks as compared to September. We went just this last December and the lines were pretty long, not June/July long, but much longer than in September. The christmas decorations are good, but wouldn't be special enough to get me to go there again to deal with all the people. Just a one time thing for us.

i will also be there this week and staying at pop century. will the cheerleaders be invading this resort as well as AS or do they stick to AS? I have gone this week before but always have stayed at CBR, where they weren't a problem. i can agree with the previous comments about the cheerleaders getting loud in line and that their cheers get very annoying after hearing them day after day line after line

It's not really necessary to avoid the MK on the day they are filming the 'Christmas' parade.

It's crowded on Main Street but they keep lanes open so guests who are not watching it can walk by.
Actually the rest of the park is rather normal.

Most people watch the filming for 30 mins or so and then go do other things.

:)

Anybody else with experience during this pop warner/ cheerleading event?
I want to spend a lot of time in the parks at night this trip. Hopefully the kiddies will be in bed to get their rest for the next big day of competition!

We'll be there that week too!

There are some (a few) nightmare stories floating around the boards about the Pop Warner football players and cheerleaders, but most revolve around stays at one of the All Stars or Port Orleans resorts. Once in a while you'll hear about a problem in the parks, but no crowds. Sounds like you should be fine!

I will say we were there for 2 nights at All Star Music two weeks ago while another (different) cheer competition was going on. Besides the potential for DH to crash the double stroller into the pool due to the # of string bikinis at the pool (seriously, DH & I laughed about EVERY father at the pool studiously reading a book as if their life depended on it - not looking up at all - b/c of all they 15 year olds in their tiny swimsuits ) we had ZERO problems. I know it was a different group, but things were fine.

See you there!!!

They compete all day and basically only have the evenings in the park, unless they've lost their round and have no more competitions. They will definitely NOT be in bed. We were hoping for the same. Didn't happen. They weren't bad, just irritating. I wouldn't change my trip over it.
