Death at Driving Experience

The passenger is the deceased, yes.

It is unclear whether he is a guest or a CM.

It would make sense if the guest was driving because they aren't familiar with the course/feel of the car/etc... Also, a guest in a high powered car such as these more than likely wouldn't know what to do if something goes wrong (hitting the brakes isn't always the answer).

I'm not sure it matters. Dead is dead. Doesnt matter if its a guest or an instructor.

Well, we'll just have to wait for more details, but from what I posted prior, it doesn't appear enough safety measures are in play for the exotic cars, considering the NASCAR end goes slightly faster and they have you in a firesuit and just about everything a NASCAR ride would entail.

AP Wire services said:
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Police say a Lamborghini that was part of an exotic car Walt Disney World racing attraction crashed into a guardrail, killing a passenger and injuring the driver.

The attraction lets racecar fans be drivers or passengers in luxurious cars such as Lamborghinis, Porsches or Ferraris.

It wasn't immediately clear if the driver was a track employee or a customer. The driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The passenger was a 36-year-old man from nearby Davenport.

Their names were not immediately released.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the Lamborghini crashed when the driver lost control Sunday at the Exotic Driving Experience.

A Disney spokeswoman didn't immediately return a phone call.

Last I heard the closing date has been extended. Give more people the chance to experience this.
Yeah, but it might changed now. The track itself before this death was antique in terms of safety, but it was allowed since it wasn't used for professional races anymore outside of testing.

The best way to put it is the track now wouldn't be considered safe by Indycar standards or by any of the top 3 touring series in NASCAR unlike 2000.

Disney did not spend the money for safer barriers for the track once the research and development was done due to price and what Disney was using the track for.

Isn't the track owned by RPDE and NOT Disney? Disney would not be responsible for the update anyway...the owner of the track would be.

Track was considered too narrow for the addition of safer barriers.

Oh my god. Look at the pictures here. The barrier impaled the car....Much worse than I thought and now understand why the passenger was killed.

That's the worst possible place to have that happen on a car. What's worse is you can see the skid marks going into it... They had to be going a pretty good clip for the guard rail to go that far in...

Another question would be why weren't there water barrels or tires around that guardrail?

It's odd.... Aerial footage suggests the car was driving the wrong way around the course, or at least the wrong way for maximum trackside barrier protection.
Yeah. The guardrails are aligned for driving the opposite direction. They never should have been able to hit the blunt end of the guardrail.
