Monsters 2 won't hapen before 2013. Star Wars looks like 2011. I'm sticking with those dates until real proof otherwise.

Fair enough. In that case, then, you really shouldn't say it will be released in 2012 or 2013. Makes for a confusing post. :wave:
So I take it you are suggesting that the MI coaster will still be slated for a fall 2011 opening? And if that is the case, don't you think some work would get underway fairly soon? Not being a WDI insider, I have no idea how long it might take to get the MI coaster up and running, I'm just curious as to your opinion on the matter.

Why does everyone seem to think that Star Wars is the savior or this end all be all? Adults, Kids, Men and women enjoy the Potter books. Star Wars is almost strictly a male enjoyed genre. I don't know a single girl that likes Star Wars and in fact most of them have never seen them and thats the one movie they refuse to even give a chance. I dont know any 50+ year old adults that are DIE HARD fans either. None of them would even choose to watch it on TV if they were channel surfing and it was on. Star Wars is popular to a very limited fan base ( men aged 25-40 ), granted those fans are all die hards, but thats about it. In my opinion a Monsters Inc Coaster has way more general appeal and would bring in more guests than Star Tours 2.0 ever would.

Just my opinion, but I think the trend is to have the new "franchise" attractions open months before the movie. So, my guess is Star Tours 2 could be summer of 2011 and the MI coaster slated for spring 2013 if the movie is opening that summer. The PatF characters are debuting before the movie in the parks and I think the desire is to have these type franchises debut throughout all the Disney realms. Park attractions, movie, TV specials, merchandise, music, companion books etc etc etc.
I don't know, but I would guess that's in the 'hood.
I do know I am looking forward to riding it next month.
My last visit was literally days before cast/soft openings and I rode the Aladdin spinner over and over again (see, I AM a fanboi!) just so I could peer over the fence and take pics!
The one difference with Crush, though, is that it required land prep, infrastructure, building a whole new building ... Monsters was just going in an old soundstage that was already emptied and had prep work done on it, which easily reduces the cost.

Evidently you have never been to Star Wars Weekends. It's hardly just a middle aged male demographic. See the JTA if you don't believe me. It's a mostly family event.

Star Wars is probably the top brand in the movie industry. And the Clone Wars TV show is the most successful show in Cartoon Network history.

I tend to agree with you on the whole franchise aspect. Iger explicitly said so a year or so ago.
If you believe the MI coaster will be opening in 2013, a few months before the premiere of the movie, why did you link to a blog stating the ride would open in fall of 2011?? :shrug: Just to reinforce the franchise idea? You explicitly stated that the blog reinforced your idea that the MI coaster is being delayed until the release of the movie, yet the linked blog explicitly states the opposite.

This fell into my lap in a discussion with a friend on the inside that had nothing to do with the park at all.
But again, since I haven't seen Insider (or anyone else) disagree I have no clue why anyone wants to start another __________________ contest where one doesn't exist ... and I'd like to spend my Sunday afternoon out in the sun, not going back and forth over a rolley coaster.
That's why I likes ya, Figment. You got a great grasp of the obvious! And while I am playing ith you a bit, I mean that in a good way.
And I am not even criticizing Disney on this (some would have you believe otherwise). If they have to make money choices in this tough economy, then I want the MK project to be as big, as elaborate, and impressive as possible.
The Studios is -- and has been -- a very troubled park. Has some great attractions and theming yet is missing a lot of soul. I just don't think it should be the focus of capital reinvestment at WDW right now ... not with all those beautiful new timeshares looking down on the stalest MK of them all.
Oh, and before anyone asks, this doesn't affect hat removal at all. Like I said, it's coming down prior to 2012, just a question of when. I have a strong feeling it will coincide with the opening of Star Tours 2.0 and -- likely -- a new or relocated parade debutting.

Holy crap this thread got out of hand fast. I personally don't feel the D&G vibe from anyone on this site. Just a lot of clashing opinions. Everyone needs to think "opinion" when they read these boards. Stop categorizing everyone into POS an NEG types. I haven't been on here long but I can see that EVERYONE wants WDW to be everything it can be no matter who you are or what you may think. Everyone just has different opinions on what roads to take to get there. Do we take the shortest distance? The route with no tolls? Avoid the highways? Who cares how they get there? As long as they, in the end, do! Now, back to our originally posted topic...
I know WDW Insider is fairly new, and they are making some pretty bold posts about the future projects. Could be real, could not be. But my only observation from this thread is that he/she is 100% sure MI is being canned. But then why is the thread titled "Dead Monsters?" Should the end punctuation for such a sure statement be an exclamation point, or nothing at all? I'm not saying it's not true, but everyone already has MI out of the near future plans just because a random poster decided to voice an opinion or make something up. Heck I could have easily signed up under a different e-mail address and said that Beastly Kingdomme was just green lit over the FL expansion according to my "very reputable source".
Let's not count MI out right away until further known insiders surface or some kind of announcement is made.

On the topic of the 40th, has there been any word on when it might actually start? Will they wait until October, or will it start at the beginning of the calender year 2011??
And back to the topic at hand, if MI coaster is dead, and WDW Insider states Pixar Place will have a second expansion in the near future, could they possibly be talking about anything but a re-theme of HISTK Play area, to a Bug's Life?
