Dead Monsters?

Universal couldn't properly advertise a *NEW* park to fans of Jurassic Park/Marvel/Seuss/vintage comic characters, how will this be different for Potter? People will go trying to find a new park, only to realize that it has one new ride and some shops. This is going to blow up in their faces IMHO.

As for Monsters, I heard the other way around, MK is getting cancelled and Monsters is being pushed back to 2011.

DHS isn't dead or going to die. AI is a great, popular show, Toy Story Mania pulls them in, and people love ToT and RnR still.

Small Epcot projects make me excited, as I feel like that's what some of the most fun things happen in the park.

Outside of MK, DHS is the most stale theme park I have ever seen. Star Tours, Backlot tram tour, sounds dangerous, and half the other stuff in the park have long outstayed there welcome. Tower of Terror still a big draw but its so old now and they haven't really added any major e-ticket since (Rock N Roller is just meh). Don't even get me started on American idol. Universal has the studio park + Islands of Adventure packed to the hilt with rides, shows and attractions. More importantly they have NEW, technologically advanced rides with Harry Potter at the centerpiece.DHS will be no match.

Oh, we can doppelgang a SECOND park to count as points towards the ONE park?

Oooo! EPCOT, I choose you!

Heck of a park, Studios+EPCOT.

(apparently)

Anyways, if they're uninformed and have young spawn, they'll probably end up regretting going to Universal Studios if their kid can't meet any of the gajillion hight requirements Disney Studios does not have.

But they still will have spent the money at Universal. Given that it's a once in a lifetime trip, that regret doesn't really translate into any positive business for Disney.

Again, I want to reiterate (before someone tries to deconstruct my points) that this isn't the majority of guests, but is a merely a palpable amount that will impact Disney's bottom line.

Also, I think ignorant people become conditioned to having dashed expectations. If you don't do your homework enough times in life, and are constantly getting less-than-the-best, you have to get used to it? Right?

Ha, I thought the same thing. Then, I thought, "why bother?"

I LOVE Universal, but it's just stupid to pit Universal/IOA against JUST Studios. JUST Kingdom, etc.

If I pit the whole WDW resort against JUST Universal Studios, of course the whole resort will win.

That's just way off. Let's not go back to 1999.

I am 99% certain that with JK Rowling, this thing will be marketed just fine. And it's not one ride and some shops. It's an entire land.

Well, you heard wrong. Very much so.

No one said it was dead. But the park is being ruined with poor decisions. The park closes at 7 p.m. three nights a week during the summer. How stupid is that?

And if someone's option is either see an Idol show and ride RnRC or try something completely new and with an amazing state-of-the-art centerpiece attraction, people are gonna head to Uni.

Again, it's just common sense that if one park at WDW is going to suffer the brunt of the Potter attack, it will be its STUDIOS park.

It really depends on what they actually do.

I don't know if it wasn't clear from my post, but I was agreeing with you. I meant 'why bother' refuting what he wrote.

Just to take a break for the Studios arguments, if ALL this funding is going into MK, does that mean Adventureland or some other project unrelated to Fantasyland could be done too?

Agreed with everything up until the red.

I don't like claiming to be an expert on anything, but I will say if I know what's going on at one park more than the other three, it's Studios, and it's pretty well.

In reality this isn't that clear cut. People who REALLY WANT to see all of Universal may plan several days there. Or they could knock it in a day as I can. They may do all the parks at Disney as well. They may skip Animal Kingdom, because they want to go Studios. Skip Kingdom to do EPCOT. It's going to be such a personal choice that I think it's downright ABSURD to believe that I'll go to Studios one day after Potter opens and it'll be a ghost town while another thrives or vice-versa.

In reality the ONLY noticeable (and most likely mathematical) difference will be Universal's attendance, which is fantastic.

I JUST can't put everything I know about this subject in a box and believe Potter's gonna make any of the crowds vanish at Disney-For better or worse.

In my opinion, people who like Epcot don't like DAK, people who like DHS don't like Ecpot, people who like MK don't like DHS, people who like DAK don't like MK... or that's how it is in my family :D

anywho...

I think comparing Uni and IoA togetherto DHS is irrelevent because they both kick DHS' ______ with rides single handedly. DHS theme is better, but really that can't top the actual rides! IoA has great theme and rides, a very SOLID park (OT: I'm speding my next day on vacationin both IoA and Uni so I'll try to get updates on RRR and WWoHP or some cool photos!).

DHS would of probably made an okay MI coaster, but maybe they will say "hmm, we made a mistake. we need a new ride" and make a whole new concept from scratch *crosses fingers for Up attraction*. ST2 would drive me to come back to DHS after I've seen WWoHP the year before, so I think that will take back some business!

You know what DHS really needs to do? Make the GMR modern and with amazing technology, new DISNEY movies, remove the hat, and update the exterior. Take sea monster out of lake, make it something Disney like Monstro, Ariel, Triton, or Ursula. Take out the lame backdrop of NYC/SF (forgot which one) and retheme it to SOMETHING more Hollywood. A meet and greet most likely. It's not like the park is named HOLLYWOOD Studios or anything.

Ratatouille Sewer Rapids anyone?

That "Sea Monster" is Gertie the Dinosaur one of the most important contributions to animation history and it just so happens that backdrops are part of HOLLYWOOD sets from HOLLYWOOD movies.

Not everything in a Disney park has to be gushing with fangirl glitter, princess tie ins and pointless character interaction.

Next you'll be telling us we need Twilight in WDW.

But that's what makes Disney different. It's the little touches and special things that make it different and unique. Everything doesn't have to be straight forward, slap you in the face with pixie dust, princess, magical, dreams. It doesn't hurt people to have to think and wonder about things when they are at WDW. Maybe...just maybe, if someone wonders about something enough, they will go home and do some digging and learn something they never knew.

Learning is fun.

Isn't it. You should know what you're tearing down before you demolish it.

And I don't know why the Streets of America needs to rethemed to 'something' Hollywood. We already have Hollywood & Sunset Blvds. (though the backdrops could use some updating, NYC is looking a little flat - and green)

For what it's worth, I can tell you that Disney's Hollywood Studios is receiving many new changes in the shortterm. I won't comment on the status of the new coaster, but I can tell you that a second expansion of Pixar Place is soon in coming, a major change to one of our attractions at DHS is on the way, Star Tours 2.0 is on the way, etc.

To quote Walt Disney "People are OK". The Disney parks don't have to have Disney-branded stuff shoved in your face every 5 feet. Many people don't remember that the first couple years of Disneylands existence 'characters were not allowed in the park at all.
